Plugging VM Cable directly into TV!
« Thread Started on Mar 13, 2009, 2:09pm »

Well i only found out today that if you plug a spare Virgimedia cable directlyinto the back of your tv (With an adapter) you can pick up a few channels!

Channels I found
BBC 1, 2, News24 and Parliment
ITV1
Ch4
Ch5
QVC
ITV2 (Scrambled)
Sky Sports 1 (Scrambled)

And a few more that were scrambled and couldn't see what they were.

Ok so this is pointless to the majority of people, but if you dont have an arial on your roof, but you do have Virginmedia, with a splitter box and some extra cabling, it means you can watch the channels mentioned above in cable quality on a TV in a different room.

Not brilliant I know, but there might be someone out there who doesnt have a roof arial, but has got an old VM cable sticking out of the wall doing nothing.

However if you connect the cable to a freeview box, it wont pick anything up unfortunately, as it is working on a different band i believe.

The problem with doing this is that a television will put noise back onto the network, so that you or your neighbours may find their digital TV quality or even internet download speeds affected.

This only works if your area has not been switched to digital cable TV only as the signal your using is analogue.

As you say the freeview signal is not sent down the cable at all because this would be a waste of bandwidth as they expect you to subscribe to cable if you want digital TV.

Apparently that is a myth.
Not noticed any problems with any of my other services.

It's no myth, although admittedly chances of it happening with just one tv in an area are slim.

NTL used to have the network engineers out doing noisebusting exercises checking for just this sort of thing, although the biggest problems that put noise onto the network were poorly chipped boxes.

Well i dont have a chipped box, and will only use the second TV when wanting to watch 2 champions league games at once, so should be ok.

This is been known for a good while also plug it into the back of your radio if you have a connection or white wire just touch the end of the wire to it for an experiment and you'll get some audio feeds through the radio (dunno if they have switched this off yet) But also to note if you have a Television that picks up VHF Low and High you get E4 and others :) Try it. But do us a favour be carefull not to cross the outer braiding (static shock lol) :D

The FM radio thing isn't a trick, it used to be a service they provided, which has been discontinued for some years. You'd be lucky to find a still working connection.
