I love that. I know it's a brilliant illusion but I must admit a tiny part of me wishes that genuinely happened.

The most outrageous performance of a magic trick ever...

Right, I'm looking for a volunteer from the audience to assist me with a long distance card trick. Do you live in the UK, can you handle a pack of cards reasonably well, can you follow a simple set of instructions, would you like to take part in a magical experiment? If yes, get in touch via PM. Any takers? It's painless (well, almost!) and the results will be presented here for all to see.

David Copperfield - Portal - the most amazing illusion ever? You decide. Never impressed by this trick as its obvious how it is done. It also got number 1 i think on that TV top 50 magic tricks countdown! For me the best magic trick ever is still the Paul Daniels one where he puts a TV camera in a box, the box raises up, and then when it is opened the camera and cameraman disappear! Still stumped by that

I've watched that trick so many times. Now unless its a fake camera, stooge on stage, and the whole audience is in on it, and they just edit the video after. Here is what I can see that looks dodgy if you take everything you see as if it was performed infront of you live. The bit with the black ramp at the beginning looks a bit sus, dont know why, but the way they put it down and pick it up is pretty much the only time the box is in any way obscured before it is closed. At that point the main TV feed cuts to that of the camera inside. This could be where the edit is done? When the man waves, the feed from the camera inside does not seem to be as good a quality as the normal cameras. When the door is shut, I am guessing the back wall along with the "fake" camera is rotated to the back of the box. There is then roughly a minute or so before the volunteer goes to the back of the box, this is the only time I can see whereby the camera is removed, Again I am guessing the "fake" camera somehow becomes smaller, and is hidden in a compartment at the back of the stage along with the cameraman? I assume the PiP of Paul looking into the box, is done with a small camera positioned inside the box by the cameraman before he leaves. Another idea is that when the forklift with the box on it turns around, the camera is removed then and becomes part of the forklift or hidden within it. Or in front of it, notice how the main camera filming is at a high angle and obscuring a direct low view front on. The orchestra which are situated off to the side of the stage would have to be in on it too. All these are guesses using critical thinking and logic, and I am still not particularly pleased with my guess, as the vanishing camera looked pretty solid to me.

As everyone knows I am extremely sensitive to exposure of any trick. Thankfully, on this occasion Jon couldn't be more wrong.

Trust me, I know. Please remember there are others who read these posts who have stated that they don't want to know how the tricks are done.
If anyone has any theories they would like to discuss they are quite welcome to PM me.

Over the last 30 odd years I have been priviledged to have witnessed the some of the greatest magicians around. For me one the most outstanding was Richard Turner; his level of skill is unsurpassed, not bad for someone who is legally blind!
