Watching an old prog last night called "The Good old Days"lots of great variety acts on each week, you know the type of thing, tumblers ,knife throwers, comic singers and imho a great magician called Johnnie Hart, who was on last night. He must have been one one of the first to do the moving ball suspended behind a cloth. Thing was he made it go up in a puff of sparks and smoke at the end I cannot remember any other magician doing this ,or if they did I missed it. Top of the bill was the one and only Ken Dodd he was as always brill. Any one know if Johnnie Hart is still working?
Mac if you cant figure out how it is done, by using google for just 20 seconds then you really are not enjoying all the internet has to give.
On a completely different note, I need to go fishing!
I don't trust everything I see in videos on the web - videos, and photos too, are known as being able to be manipulated.
And I need to get some kip as I've had a busy day here in the sun....!
I tried to hint in previous message, if I say any more I get shouted at by our resident magician who doesn't allow me to give away tricks. Suffice to say if he says its a trick, probably best you take his word for it, afterall he is a professional magician.
A bad ass who will beat you like he's using the fists of god.

Now there's a name I've not heard for a while. Last time I saw him perform was in 2010 (I think) at the Blackpool Magic Convention. I've not heard anything about him since.

Martin Daniels: Me, My Dad & The Royal Variety Show
After last night’s broadcast of the 2016 Royal Variety Performance on ITV, we caught up with magician Martin Daniels as he shared personal memories of performing and of his late father Paul Daniels’ association with the iconic show.
So what are the New Year's Resolutions for some of the top Las Vegas magicians.......
“I’ve lost weight. I’ve gotten healthy. Our Vegas show is doing well. My podcast is doing well. Our TV show is doing well. So, I guess I’ll devote 2017 to achieving world peace, universal health and happiness and get that done.” – Penn Jillette, Penn & Teller at Rio
“Piff the Magic Dragon has resolved to send Mr. Piffles back to Mexico.” – Piff the Magic Dragon, Piff the Magic Dragon Solo Show at Flamingo
“My New Year’s resolution is to take a vacation. It’s difficult to take time off when you love your job but ‘me time’ is important!” – Mat Franco, Magic Reinvented Nightly at The Linq Hotel
“My New Year’s Resolution is to stop and thank every person in uniform, whether it be military, police or firefighter, and thank them for their service and sacrifices.” – Wayne Newton, Wayne Newton: Up Close and Personal at Bally’s
“I, Mac King, resolve to spend more time outdoors. To that end, I decided to ride my bike with my wife Jen and become a farmer. To that end, I asked Santa for a new bike, an ant farm and a tractor.” – Mac King, The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrah’s
Mr Jinx Says: 2016 was a bad year for many reasons. We all lost Paul Daniels, I lost a good magician friend and another almost died from a stroke. I certainly won't miss 2016.
2016 was also the year I decided to call it a day as a magician. In recent years the magic scene has been changing and not necessarily for the better. Too much camera trickery and video editing on TV has warped public perception. Add to that the number of second rate 'Dynamo Wannabes' that have appeared and you have the stuff of nightmares. It just isn't fun anymore.
The good news is I'll still be following the magic scene and posting anything interesting here.
Finally, I'd like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Happy New Year to you too And for sure the loss of Paul Daniels was a big one. We simply dont have many good stage magicians left these days, like you say too many edits and camera tricks.

After decades of dazzling tricks, a magician reaches his final act
The man was 64 and he was dying of lung disease and this was his place: a stretch of concrete laid at the foot of an empty storefront and a bodega in Portland, Ore.
If you’d walked down NW 3rd Avenue 18 months ago, you might have noticed him on the sidewalk, most likely wrapped beneath blankets that were cleaner than those shrouding other homeless people in the area. It’s possible you would have noticed the slightly younger woman bringing him warm food and discreetly helping change his clothes late at night and then kissing him sweetly before leaving it all to whatever the night might hold.
The man’s name was Kelly Craig and the woman was Lisa Craig, his wife of nearly 40 years. She lives in a single-occupancy housing unit across the street from where Kelly lived for more than a year.
Brain Tumour Research write: As a tribute to the great magician Paul Daniels, we are delighted to announce a special and unique Rabbit in a Hat badge. Produced in collaboration with Debbie McGee, Paul’s widow, the badge is symbolic of his enduring popularity as an entertainer, television personality and of course a hugely talented magician. Paul died in March 2016, shortly after announcing his diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour. Debbie says: “He died four weeks and five days after the diagnosis. I still miss him every day. I still love spending time with our rabbits – they make me think of him. I am really proud to be able to work with Brain Tumour Research in this way and I think Paul would have been too. I hope everyone will buy at least one of these badges – by wearing one, you’ll be remembering Paul and supporting vital brain tumour research.” www.braintumourresearch.org.
A mind-reading show based on the true story of The Cold War's psychic spies. In 1975, the Cold War took an unusual turn. The CIA learnt that Russia was investing in mind-control research and achieving some remarkable results. Not wanting to be left behind, US scientists began a secret project to train civilians as psychic spies: stealing secrets, manipulating memories and finding out if thoughts can kill. Drawing on 100,000 pages of declassified documents, David Narayan attempts the CIA's experiments, seeing if a modern audience can use the same techniques. "The Psychic Project was a festival highlight. A very very smart and engaging show." @strongmisgiving.
