Yesterday, I had a reading (or whatever it's called) done with a medium who doesn't charge people. It was very interesting and I'll tell you what was said later, but I found this forum and decided to sign up because I am still a little skeptical and I was wondering your opinions on why this woman does not charge if she is not real. What is in it for her?
Some people genuinely believe they can help and don't feel the need to charge. These people do not have any special powers but have convinced themselves that they do. Whether they charge or not is irrelevant. They are giving readings that can have long lasting consequences for the sitter.
I look forward to hearing your experience.

Thanks. It's going to be a LONG reply lol so brace yourself!
She does free sessions through Skype and she started off by explaining how she does it etc. The only question she asked me was, out of curiosity, why I moved to America (I was her first "American" and before we started I told her I was from England in case she got confused by the accent) and she said she'd been to Boston before, near where I live now. She asked if my family had moved here and I said no, I got married. I probably shouldn't have said that lol but she didn't ask any details about my life, my family, she just went straight to it. She also told me to get a pen and paper so I could write things down in case I needed to ask my family about things later that I was unsure about.
The first thing she could see was a person having "expressive eyes" and then all of a sudden she said "Jack" which freaked me out because my mom's uncle (her dad's brother) was called Jack. She described his appearance more but as I only met him once when I was a toddler, I couldn't remember so I wrote it all down. Then she described seeing terraced houses and woods/countryside . Then she saw an image of an empty pram (what Americans call a stroller) and said it symbolised a miscarriage/abortion/stillbirth and that they were related to him but not closely related. Well, the only thing I could think of was that he had no children and she said she didn't mean that, it was definitely a death. Well, his sister, my mom's aunt, had one natural child and then adopted another child so maybe something happened that we don't know about or it could have been just a load of bull lol.
Then somebody said "why on earth did you get married at 20?!" and then there was an image - I think of the same person - of a woman who had children one after the other and I thought maybe that was my mom's (on her mom's side) Irish grandmother because she had, I think, 13 children. I can't remember the exact number but I know it was a LOT! Then she had an image of someone wearing a Salvation Army's uniform. When I asked my mom about this, she said she looked at our family tree and my mom's paternal great grandfather won a Victoria Cross medal for bravery in a war in South Africa. Now why would my mom's maternal grandmother have anything to do with my mom's paternal great grandfather who the medium mentioned right after the woman with lots of children? Well, my mom also indirectly mentioned that her maternal grandfather was a soldier so maybe that's it (or a load of bull lol)...
Then she had a vision of a young boy wearing a hat with a bobble and he was showing his personality a lot at first. She said he was a very forceful child and wanted his own way and grew up to be very forceful and headstrong. As soon as I heard that, I immediately though "my grandad" because he had a temper and I guess was quite headstrong. My aunt always says he was a perfectionist lol my mom disagrees though. The medium had another image later on of him running towards water and took no notice to danger. My mom said this sounded like her uncle on her mom's side because they lived near the sea and got up to mischief. But then she also said her dad once told her that he learned to swim in a river when he went to stay with his aunt and uncle when he was a young boy...
Then she had a vision of something which really stood out to me. She said there was a vision of a small cake and asked if there is a child's birthday approaching soon and I said no. (My mom said her birthday is soon, July, and that it could mean her and she is her mom and dad's child, I guess is one way of looking at it). Then she said this person was poor, didn't have a lot, but one time there was a big celebration with a cake. Well my mom once told me that when her mom was a child in Ireland, they were very poor and didn't have a lot but one time they had like a big party with lots of jelly/jello...
Then she had a shadowy vision of a person holding a cake in a loaf tin - they used to bake a lot and they were very poorly/depressed before they died, which is why there was a shadow. Well, my grandmother had Alzheimer's before she died so she was very poorly and I guess also depressed - I suppose you would be depressed if you were suffering from Alzheimer's. She said their sink was always full of dirty dishes and they were the type of person that would make a guest feel at home - tell them to sit down, have something to eat etc.
I was absolutely sure that this person was my grandmother. Everybody says she was an excellent cook and my mom agreed that she was very hospitable towards guests. She also said it was true, their house was always full of dirty dishes because nobody helped my grandmother much around the house, but they would on weekends.
Then she had a vision later on of tall chimneys and factories - I know that Jack used to work in a factory and my mom confirmed this. And then she had a vision of a woman with a feather hat pushing a pram (stroller) with twins. That part really shocked me! My mom's two sisters are twins! So I thought "yep, my grandmother!" She said she was picking fruit off a tree. I asked my mom about this and she said once, as a family, they all went to pick fruit off a tree to earn some money for my aunts' school clothes and my grandmother was very happy. She can't recall anything about a feather hat but she said her mom might have larked around.
There were two messages for me, apparently, from my relatives and one from my teacher/guardian.
The one from Jack was "tell the truth, tell the truth, don't worry about hurting other people's feelings". Well my mom said that he was a very blunt person and once told her that her hair looked like straw!
The other one was from the other male she was describing, who I still don't know who it was, telling me I need base support in order to get where I want to be in life.
And finally, my teacher/guardian said to show my spirit more (the kind, caring part of me) and less of my ego (the angry part of me) which makes sense!
Oh, regarding the beginning where she was describing the countryside and terraced houses - my mom said she visited her hometown a week ago on Sunday and wanted to see the nursing home where her uncle Jack lived before he died. She said it is in the countryside with lots of trees and fields around it... My mom lives, where I used to live in England, in a terraced house. Does it mean anything? I don't know.
So yeah, I'm not certain it was real and I'm not certain it was fake. I would be interested to see what she'll say to any of you if you want to try it out!
I guess the few things that really freaked me out was when she said "Jack" and when she mentioned a woman pushing a stroller with twins. Then my mom confirming some stuff blew my mind a bit. The medium apologized because she said the session wasn't even half good but I don't mind too much because I got what I wanted (the messages). She describes her power as an "ability", not a gift, and said it's like tuning in to a radio; sometimes it's difficult to hear, sometimes you can hear.
So I'm not 100% certain of it all but I'm not 100% uncertain either, which is why I came on here to find out what you all think.

Hi Takemeback
Thank you for taking time to post about your reading.
I've been to see mediums before both paying and for free! In every situation I have never been convinced of anything by what they have said and if I'm being honest there is nothing in your reading that changes that. Its called 'cold reading'. There is so much in that reading that could apply to literally most people. You have to totally ignore vague ambiguous statements such as 'expressive eyes' - could be said of anyone! Certainly if you have to think to make it apply then its most likely total bull as you put it lol - I think most of us here could make most of that reading apply to them if they thought hard enough.
Without breaking each sentence down individually (making you realise most of it is just nonsense and waffle and applying to a lot of people) a lot of what you said that 'freaked you out' is because of that longing to know there is something more after this life. I'm like that and I know one or two others here are too. Would be great to hear from my long lost nan but it isn't going to happen.
Also (and this is just my own personal opinion) if it were possible to contact the dead, why do they not come up with something totally overwhelming to prove their existence or equally something even remotely useful.
I'm glad I found this site a good few years back now and I'm glad you didn't pay anything for your reading. Do some research on cold (and hot) reading techniques, you will be amazed at how brilliant some of these 'mediums' are at it.
ps - and in the interests of balance lol I was once freaked out when a medium said - why is that man bothering you at work? I just smiled not wanting to give a single clue, she went on, day in and day out he is annoying you! Again nothing in response from me and then she goes well your nan is going to give him a kick up the backside, he wont do it anymore. This woman could not have had a clue that a chap at work was bugging me because he thought I drove my car too fast, everytime we passed each other in the office he would make a noise like a formula 1 car. Funny for the first few times, after several weeks I got really pee'd off with it and avoided him. He even made the noise when he passed me and I was taking a call. I had planned for a big showdown to let him know it was not funny so next day after the reading I was thinking about what the woman had said, and was ready for him and lo and behold he never made that noise again, ever!! How weird and strange is that - only a little thing, but I did so want to believe that my nan had kicked his butt! lol In reality I think I had given him such a furious look, he knew he had long since overstepped the mark
"If you don't control your mind, somebody else will"
Thanks for taking the time to write it up. I can assure you that's a pretty bog standard reading which could apply to many people. For example, I have an Uncle Jack, I have twin sisters, as kids we always had birthday cake and my dad was a baker so the cake in a baking tin also fits.
On the whole the reading seems pretty vague. She's seeing lots visions but not telling you who these people are or much about them. What you've done is to make your family history fit her reading. Surely, if she's in contact with these 'spirits' they should be telling her who they are.
The two bits of advice you were given was just the sort of thing my old mum would say when I was growing up. ie, a bit of common sense which could apply to the majority of people.
I'm sure Jon will be along shortly with a more detailed assessment but I'm sure he'll agree with me; this person has no more psychic powers than my cat :-)
Here's a video that explains how the psychics work-
She started off her reading with a fishing expedition, this is pretty blatant even for a skype psychic. And she found out enough about you with those couple of questions, of course she could have also been using this time as a distraction while a partner looked up info on you.
The first thing she could see was a person having "expressive eyes" and then all of a sudden she said "Jack" which freaked me out because my mom's uncle (her dad's brother) was called Jack.
First bit of proper cold reading. She already found out that you were English despite living in America! Here is the reason why Global Popularity of the Name Jack #1 in Australia (New South Wales) #1 in England #1 in New Zealand #1 in Northern Ireland #1 in Scotland #1 in Wales #2 in Australia (Victoria) #2 in Ireland #15 in Canada (Alberta) #15 in Canada (British Columbia) #20 in Canada (Ontario) #39 in United States
She literally chose one of the most popular names IN THE WORLD, but funnily enough not that popular in the States! This is typical cold reading, throwing a name out, and letting you make it fit.
The expressive eyes comment is so vague if you think about it, another comment that anyone could make fit.
She described his appearance more but as I only met him once when I was a toddler, I couldn't remember so I wrote it all down. Then she described seeing terraced houses and woods/countryside .
So ask yourself why is she going on about a Great Uncle who you never really knew and met once, because YOU told her who he was, so she just carried it on. Knowing you were English she has now gone on to use typical English styles of houses, but also saying the complete opposite in woods and countryside, this is a way of literally covering everything in one sentence. Do you know of a single terraced house in the countryside? It makes no sense. It is vague enough to allow the client to make it fit, but again what is the point of telling you any of this when you never knew this Jack person.
Then she saw an image of an empty pram (what Americans call a stroller) and said it symbolised a miscarriage/abortion/stillbirth and that they were related to him but not closely related.
More hedging here, she mentions 3 separate ways a baby can die, and miscarriage is in fact an incredible common thing to happen, so add that on to the percentage of people who have had an abortion and a still birth, and you have a huge percentage of people, so she is definitely playing the percentage game here, sticking with common enough things that are almost guaranteed to hit!
And again notice how she says these things are related, and then not closely related, she will have added this after not seeing a strong reaction from you, this will be reading your body language as I assume this was a video skype call.
Well, the only thing I could think of was that he had no children and she said she didn't mean that, it was definitely a death. Well, his sister, my mom's aunt, had one natural child and then adopted another child so maybe something happened that we don't know about or it could have been just a load of bull lol.
Again you are the one who is trying to find a way to make it fit, its all too much hard work if you think about it.
Then somebody said "why on earth did you get married at 20?!"
Did you get married at 20?
and then there was an image - I think of the same person - of a woman who had children one after the other and I thought maybe that was my mom's (on her mom's side) Irish grandmother
So you have now had to go 4 generations above you to kinda find someone this would fit, can you see how this is you doing all the hard work here.
Then she had an image of someone wearing a Salvation Army's uniform. When I asked my mom about this, she said she looked at our family tree and my mom's paternal great grandfather won a Victoria Cross medal for bravery in a war in South Africa.
So not a salvation army uniform at all. Completely 100% wrong on this, she could have said an army uniform. Again you have now had to go 5 generations above you to find a match!
Now why would my mom's maternal grandmother have anything to do with my mom's paternal great grandfather who the medium mentioned right after the woman with lots of children? Well, my mom also indirectly mentioned that her maternal grandfather was a soldier so maybe that's it (or a load of bull lol)...
Everybody of that age did national service, there was world wars too, everyone was signing up, its hardly a jump to guess an army uniform if you think about it.
She said little boy with a hat, and you think of your grandfather? Why? There is no connection there at all
My aunt always says he was a perfectionist lol my mom disagrees though. The medium had another image later on of him running towards water and took no notice to danger. My mom said this sounded like her uncle on her mom's side because they lived near the sea and got up to mischief. But then she also said her dad once told her that he learned to swim in a river when he went to stay with his aunt and uncle when he was a young boy..
.
You are finding so many different people to match vague things this psychic has said, its hard to keep up with who is who.
Then she had a vision of something which really stood out to me. She said there was a vision of a small cake and asked if there is a child's birthday approaching soon and I said no.
So another complete failure here, which is actually surprising, as pretty much everyone will know a child with a birthday within a month or so.
Again you are really reaching here, and pretty much everyone 80 years ago or so were poor, world war, recession etc.
Poorly and depressed is hardly the same as Alzheimer's, also worth noting that the vast majority of older people will suffer with forms of dementia as they get old, and surely everyone is depressed and poorly before they die? Isn't that the whole point of getting old?
Then she had a vision later on of tall chimneys and factories - I know that Jack used to work in a factory and my mom confirmed this.
So a vague mention of chimneys and factories, what happened to the countryside? That all forgotten about at this point. And again it is YOU that is connecting this Jack person to that and not the psychic.
I think at least 99% of the people on this forum will have some relative 4 generations above them at least that will have worked in a factory, or lived near chimneys factories, or something similar, again the psychic is playing the odds, and you are making it fit
And then she had a vision of a woman with a feather hat pushing a pram (stroller) with twins. That part really shocked me! My mom's two sisters are twins!
We have 4 sets of twins in my extended family, Europe has rates of 9–16 twin sets per 1,000 live births on average. Not really that rare.
So I thought "yep, my grandmother!"
Again you are making the connection, NOT the psychic, and you are feeding this info back to the psychic. At no point did the psychic make any actual correct statement, just a vague comment that you found a connection too while thinking of your extended family.
She said she was picking fruit off a tree. I asked my mom about this and she said once, as a family, they all went to pick fruit off a tree to earn some money for my aunts' school clothes and my grandmother was very happy. She can't recall anything about a feather hat but she said her mom might have larked around.
So the psychic got this wrong then, since pretty much everyone will have picked fruit off a tree in their life, I picked a fig off a tree today! The feather comment was wrong too.
The one from Jack was "tell the truth, tell the truth, don't worry about hurting other people's feelings". Well my mom said that he was a very blunt person and once told her that her hair looked like straw!
But you never really knew Jack, why on earth would he care to give you a vague message about telling the truth?
Do you have any big secrets that are damaging people right now? If not, what was the point of the message?
The other one was from the other male she was describing, who I still don't know who it was, telling me I need base support in order to get where I want to be in life.
Vague nonsense, meaningless
And finally, my teacher/guardian said to show my spirit more (the kind, caring part of me) and less of my ego (the angry part of me) which makes sense!
Nonsense, just a random sentence that really has no purpose other than to sound nice, I am surpised the psychic never told you that you have latent psychic abilities, thats another classic line they use.
No it doesn't mean anything, as I said earlier, it is just vague comments which you are having to really reach to kinda make fit
So yeah, I'm not certain it was real and I'm not certain it was fake. I would be interested to see what she'll say to any of you if you want to try it out!
It was 100% fake, she said nothing at all of value, and in general was a terrible reading, she got nothing specific right at all, The only thing you could try and say was right was the name Jack, which as I pointed out is one of the most popular names in the world!

Now, if I had have been that psychic, I would have thrown a few of these statements at you. Let me know if I hit at all. And I will say them in the style of a psychic
---
I am getting a French connection, do you or your husband have a connection to France, as I am picking up a strong feeling of a connection to France here.
I am also getting the names Tommy, Harley and Phoebe, I see a great love connected to these names, but also some heartache
Do you or someone in your family dance, or have a connection to the theatre?
I get the feeling that you like to cook, and try new types of foods and recipes. I am seeing a kangaroo here, have you recently eaten Kangaroo?
You recently did some travelling, some camping, I also see a tower, and you near the top.
I see a strong connection to the name Paul.
---
Ok that is my reading if I was gonna pretend to be psychic, I know I am right on some of these things, I am a FRAUD, I have no psychic abilities, but lets just say I claimed I did, I want you to expose my methods. Step by step, this is a good way to learn how to be a better skeptic as well as see how psychics can do what they do.

Jon Donnis! Who are you? You're somebody that knows me LMAO! I knew somebody would find this BWAHAHAHA! you're someone on my Facebook lol
Ahhh wait you're the owner of this site aren't you and you must know my name from when I signed up? Hehe. Anyway sorry I'll answer your questions, I had a laugh just now lmao.
I didn't tell her who any of the people she described were, she didn't want me to. The name "Jack" being popular is interesting. If only I could get ahold of people who had a session with her and see what they say! Or I would be interested if somebody here had a session just to see what she says! (One of my friends is actually going to have a session with her on Saturday, she is the one that found her but was skeptical to try it out so I did it first). I can't post her details as it's against the rules here but I think you can message me for the details if you wanna, correct me if I'm wrong...
Did you get married at 20?
I got married at 20, yes, and she knew that because I told her why I moved here. Now I did wonder about that, and of course I did remember that and I thought well, she already knew this so just forget about that part.
She said little boy with a hat, and you think of your grandfather? Why? There is no connection there at all
The reason why I thought about my grandfather was because of his personality she described, not the hat.
But you never really knew Jack, why on earth would he care to give you a vague message about telling the truth?
I didn't know him, no, but when I was very little my mom told me he held me and really liked me and thought I was cute.
Now if this woman had charged me then mostly likely I would have thought "yep. 100% fake" but she didn't. So that is why I was, and still am, confused as to what she got out of it. I guess if it was fake, and it seems like it is, then she must really believe she has this psychic ability. Now I do believe in an afterlife, but I am a little skeptical about mediums... Having said that, the only medium I believe is genuine is Colin Fry... Yes, yes, I know about that trumpet incident, but I've seen his shows and there was one reading he did that really amazed me. In fact I'll post the link from YouTube in here and see what you all think. I'm not saying you're all wrong or anything, I just like hearing different opinions.
Thanks for your feedback!

Some people genuinely believe they can help and don't feel the need to charge. These people do not have any special powers but have convinced themselves that they do. Whether they charge or not is irrelevant. They are giving readings that can have long lasting consequences for the sitter.
Some people don't believe it at all and do it for the money. Some people do believe in it and do it for the money. Some people do believe in it and do it for free.
The first is by far the most morally bankrupt but I think that the third (last) has the most potential for serious damage.

Yeah that's true because then people (like me) will think it's real because it's free. I think the woman probably really thinks she can contact the dead and wants to help people so she does it for free but in reality she can't. Ugh.
Ahhh wait you're the owner of this site aren't you and you must know my name from when I signed up? Hehe. Anyway sorry I'll answer your questions, I had a laugh just now lmao.
So I am guessing I got everything spot on!
But still I want you to tell me how I did it. I only know your email address that you signed up with, I don't know you "real" name. (or do I!) lol

No she does not believe she is really psychic, because she used classic techniques that expose the fact she is a fraud. As for what she got out of it, well you havent actually told us who she is. Perhaps she works on word of mouth, perhaps she does free readings and then does paid for readings for those she can easily research, or that she has a good raport with.
But trust me she is a 100% fraud who knows what she is doing, her motivation could purely be ego driven

This is the video that blows my mind away! I would like somebody to explain it further. Thanks.
Firstly any video like this is evidentially worthless, as we know for a fact these videos are edited to make the medium look good, we also know that mediums like this use researchers, they have people listening in on convos and so on.
Colin Fry is a 100% proven fraud, I know his ex tour manager, I know people who have worked with and for him. I also know the methods he uses, his career started off with being caught cheating in a seance, I have seen his shows unedited and he uses known techniques, he knows what he is doing and does it purely as a career choice.
Sorry, but no such thing as a real psychic

Um, okay, now I'm freaked out haha! Well my surname, my husband's surname is French. Tommy, Harley and Phoebe are a few of our cats. Tommy died last November. The dance/theatre thing... Well I don't 100% know what you were getting at but my father was a dancer when he was younger and I am very interested in theatre. My husband and I went camping last weekend and he had some kangaroo jerky but I didn't want to try any because I think kangaroos are cute lol. He has a picture of that on one of his Facebooks. Oh, yes, we climbed a tower. Yes. His name is Paul.
I couldn't remember if I gave out my name when I signed up lol because it would be easy to find my Facebook and also the Facebook pages we made of our cats!

But trust me she is a 100% fraud who knows what she is doing, her motivation could purely be ego driven
I can message you her website if you like? I'd be interested to see what you find out.
EDIT: right, I googled her email address and she has posted her services on buying and selling pages all the time on Facebook, although she states all the time it's for free. I just messaged you her details by the way.
