Hi all,
I just wondered if anyone is watching a new social media based reality show on Channel 4 called The Circle. A new contestant entered tonight and was introduced as Ryan, a psychic from Ipswich. I'm pretty sure that he is Ryan Gooding who recently appeared as the resident medium on Celebrity haunted mansion with Rylan Clarke and whose website blurb states that his abilities were tested by the Sun newspaper and he passed with flying colours. No proof or links of course!
Anyway it should be interesting viewing as the premise of this new show is that contestants live in a block of flats but never meet and communicate only through profiles on a specially designed app. It is basically an online popularity contest as the players vote on who they like based on their profiles, however the contestants can be truthful or lie about themselves in order to be popular. Some players are being genuine whilst one guy is gay but pretending to be straight and another 20 something girl is pretending to be a 65 year old granddad. So this should be a perfect test for Gooding to prove that he knows exactly who is lying and who is playing it straight. As a "psychic" I expect him to know exactly who he is talking to and be able to call them out when they are lying. I look forward to watching him prove his abilities.

Got this from the Press Centre
NAME: RYAN
AGE: 28
FROM: FELIXSTOWE
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: MARRIED
PLAYING AS: HIMSELF, BUT HOLDING BACK ONE KEY THING… HE’S PSYCHIC
IN A NUTSHELL: Ryan is a brutally honest, quick witted, psychic medium, who has had the gift since he was a child. He’s an opinionated guy with a vested interest in some strong political views.
MOTIVATION FOR ENTERING THE CIRCLE: Ryan would like to test his psychic ability in The Circle. He prides himself on his ability to suss people out and is sure he’ll be picking up information psychically about the other players, even if it is through social media. He wants to highlight how fake people can be online, by exposing those that aren’t telling the truth.
STRATEGY: Ryan would hold back on revealing that he is a psychic initially, so as not to put people off or make them sceptical of him. Aside from this Ryan believes he will be very honest in The Circle and confident in his opinions, even if other people might disagree with them.
What attracted you to taking part in The Circle?
I have a lot of personal views on social media, in the sense that I think it’s quite a dangerous thing. I think with a lot of people on social media, what you see isn’t real, it’s the best bits, that sort of thing, and I love that this type of show has a kind of message.
What is your relationship like with social media?
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, I’m very active. I love social media, I just feel it’s being used in the wrong way.
Does social media affect your self-esteem with how many like you receive?
I do sometimes post things that don’t get that many likes and think, oh, I thought people would like that, they don’t clearly, but then think, I’d rather have a post with not so many likes that’s genuine than false.
How are you going to approach The Circle?
I’m going in to be completely genuine, not just posting the good parts but the bad parts as well. I think social media is the reason for a lot of depression and mental health, that’s a big big opinion of mine. I think if people were seeing some of the bad bits of our lives they would go, okay, he has bad days and I do too. I would like it to be a profile where people feel like they know the real me.
Have you ever started a relationship online or been trolled or catfished?
I’ve never started a relationship online, but then I kind of have. I’ve been married for four years and been in my relationship for nine years and a couple of years ago I got talking to somebody on social media and kind of felt this kind of attraction and became very confused as to how I could feel like this for somebody I had not met. And then once I actually met them it was like no. I think we both fell in love with the idea that social media profile.
Are you good at spending time in your own company?
I like my own company but don’t spend much time on my own. In the job that I do I’m very much talking to people all the time, so, it’s going to be a challenge. I’ll be taking in my tarot cards - focussing on that side of things. I’m a Psychic Medium, that’s my full time job and I do spiritual readings for people that have passed over and on people’s lives and futures. So whilst I’m in The Circle I’m hoping that I’ll get to suss out those that aren’t genuine, through the psychic powers that be I guess!
How will you feel if a friendship The Circle was not as you thought?
I would like to make some friends. I do love meeting new people, hearing about their lives, their job, what they do, who they are. If someone turned out to be not who I thought they were, then I would be well played (laughs). But I think because of what I do, it would be quite hard to fool me. My friends can’t lie to me about anything. So if they fooled me, rather than being disappointed I would be quite impressed.
If someone in The Circle asks what your job is, would you tell them?
I think that would give it away. They might think, 'I’m going to keep away from him in here because he might suss something out.'
Are you competitive?
I am. I don’t tell people that though, I’m very competitive quietly. I’m more competitive with myself than I am with other people. I’m a perfectionist; I like to do things to the best of my ability. If I have an audience, a show on, I like that to be sold out, I’m very competitive in that way. I’m going into The Circle with the view that it is a game - the idea is to win so we’ll see what happens.
Are you a team player?
I love people, I love teams, I will speak up I don’t want to fade into the background at all!
How would you spend the £50,000 prize money?
I would definitely have a really nice holiday, and the rest, I don’t really know…treat people, I’d be sensible with it, maybe put some away for my step daughter.
