If that is true, (and I doubt it could be orchestrated by that family) it will set an indisious president for future missing children cases. Celebrities and the general public will be less willing to represent or donate to missing children funds. This will hamper rescue and recovery efforts. If it is true, I hope she gets stamped into a layer of very thin pastelike consistency .

This sounds like it was a fix from the beginning, i reckon thegirl was never abducted at all, it was all a scan for publicity and money yes a few I have spoken too seem to be saying the same thing, and if it is the case I agree with what bob has said also. Why dont they find a dorment volcano and throw people like this in it !!! and the rest of the low life that wanders this planet !!!

I had read somewhere that the mother had rang her daughter Shannon a couple of times but not that she was having an affair with the man accused of abducting her.
I guess we will have to wait until November when it all goes to trial to know all about it.

Apparently, the mother was watching Shamless on Channel 4, which showed a kidnap plot and based it on that. Reports are also in that family members tried to gain money from Madeline McCann's trust. Shannon's mother has admitted she knew all along where Shannon was being held as she was planning on leaving her halfwit partner Craig. The plot just gets sicker and sicker Poor kid

Revolting, isn't it. She should be locked away for not telling the truth from the start, stupid irresponsible, vile woman. Well, the only good thing to come out of this, is that Shannon may be able to have a decent upbringing, in the hands of foster parents and the other kids too. And as for Craig having child porn, he needs locking up for life, sick fcuk. (excuse my language)

No matter how fair minded you consider yourself, this will make you look at future abductions in a whole new light.

I suppose it was inevitable that some slack-jawed moron would attempt this, sad to say.

So will the family be made to pay back the £5 million of tax payers money spent on the investigation?

How could someone exploit their child like that? A child going missing, possibly abducted, possibly murdered has got to be most parent's worst nightmares and (if it turns out to be true), she played on that fear and the sympathy it elicited for financial gain. You're right Star, vile is the right word for her.

Yes but what we do know is that the mother knew where the child was and yet still reported her as missing - a waste of tax payers money.

Im glad that shannon is safe. Im also glad that, even if shannon was in no danger, we as a country make these sorts of cases high profile.
However if these reports leaking in slowly are true, then shame on them - I hope that any lawbreaking that has taken place gets just as much attention as the whole shannon case has so far.
Lets hope next time a child goes missing shannons case doesnt affect it, and collectively we still give the case the attention it deserves.

The mother of Shannon Matthews had contact with the man accused of her daughter's abduction shortly before the girl's disappearance, Sky News has learned.
The massive search for nine-year-old Shannon Matthews might have been avoided if her mother Karen had told detectives she had been talking to Michael Donovan, Sky sources say.
She is being interviewed about why she apparently didn't give the police information which they think would have led them straight to the missing nine year old.
Mrs Matthews was taken into custody suddenly at the weekend after unexpectedly giving detectives vital new details.
While travelling in a police car on Sunday she told friends that shortly before Shannon went missing she had been talking to Michael Donovan, the man found with Shannon and now on remand awaiting trial for her kidnap. news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1312223,00.html The truth shall out, thats why it is no good trying to decieve.

And people wonder why the McCanns got more publicity than a single Mum?
No offence to anyone on here, but I have very little time for a slapper that has 7 kids from 5 different fathers. Steralise the woman and someone help those other kids too!

Apparently they've got to charge her or release her by tomorrow.
If she's released, she'd better have a good hiding place, as I'm sure a few of those neighbours who spent days scouring the area for Shannon would like a word with her.

Apart from Shannon herself, I feel sory for the cops who were slated for not finding her quicker. I have read in the press, saw on the telly and heard on the radio various people from various groups or infact individuals who blamed the cops for not having "Done their jobs" and located the where-abouts of Shannon earlier than the 3 weeks it took them. If the whole family was lying to them no wonder it took them 3 weeks. I am aware that it was a neighbour who alerted the cops to noises coming from the flat of Donovanbut surely they may have investigated him quicker if the but this whole sordid affair has been one whole sham from minute one. AS I TYPE THIS THE MOTHER HAS BEEN CHARGED. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/7337258.stmT

I swear to God that pic of Karen Matthews on the BBC site reminds me so much of someone I knew. She has 5 kids, possibly 6 to 4 or 5 fathers if is true about the sixth child. It must be something in their genes.
I feel truely awful about saying this but I can't get over the resemblence. I am sure though that they are not one in the same though as four of the children to the woman I know have left school.

That is the one good thing to come out of this.
But this is one family on one estate in one town.
There must be hundreds of 'families' like this in the whole of Britain.
If so, I despair for the future of this country.
