LINK TO ARTICLEBumps in the night and other strange happenings are scaring workers at a Cumbria shipyard. The BAE shipyard in Barrow has long had a reputation for being haunted. But since modernisation work began eight months ago reports of unexplained pipe banging, machinery working itself and mysterious shadows have escalated. Bosses are taking staff concerns seriously and have called in the services of a local vicar who will perform an exorcism. Worker Alan Worsley said the mysterious happenings took many forms. "The last thing was actually a crane moving when the driver had the controls by him and nobody was touching them. 'Workers terrified' "Another lad was upstairs changing his overalls and a shadow or something went past him, but when he turned round there was nobody there." He added that many workers were terrified. "There are a couple of big guys, one of them a foreman, who won't go upstairs at night on their own." Some say it's the spirit of a man who committed suicide at the plant many years ago or the return of an overtime-mad storeman who died of cancer. BAE Systems said the well-being of employees was its prime concern and the site's industrial chaplain had been in to talk to the staff. A local vicar will also come in to perform an exorcism.

the nightwatchmen working in our local hospital when it closed down wouldn't walk the place on their own, they always went in pairs. there were two hospitals on the site linked by a really long underground tunnel. it was well creepy down there - i never liked walking it when it was lit and bustling with people so i can well understand the security guards being freaked. the whole site must have been really noisy at night with the echoing of the building creaking and settling. they were convinced it was haunted.

A friend of mine was contacted by a company boss who was disturbed by strange happenings in his office building after hours. They had CCTV cameras working all through the night, and my friend was shown a recording of one particular floor - The camera took a shot every few seconds - which appeared empty and quiet, then in the next shot, complete chaos. All the desks had been completely wrecked. Paper everywhere, documents strewn on the floor, a complete and utter mess. Much more damage than could be done by an opportunist thief or troublemaker in the moments between the camera clicking on and off.

The tunnel linking them ive said i dont like but i think thats definatly very psychological as its a long tunel thats very echoy, ive been convinced at times that i can hear footsteps behind me but its turned out to be a slight echoing of my own, its still not nice but not the worst place, thats why i dont mind as much walking that way, as long as i dont have to linger there. its the silence on a weekend that is really spooky.
