This is an old Law. Strictly speaking any kind of entertainment, whether it be a TV or Radio in a workplace needs to have a licence

wasn't a garage recently fined a lot of money for playing music which customers could hear?

I work in a BIG office, and years ago we used to have piped music playing in some of the corridors and lifts. It was lift music and absolutely crap They saved an absolute fortune by stopping playing it.

I know my hairdresser has to have a licence to listen to the radio - and he does get one as they visit premises and he did get caught. I can't remember how much he paid, but it was some silly sum.
