Extremely exciting news arrived this week. The Advertising Association, the trade body for the £19 billion advertising industry in the UK, has proposed changes to the way the ASA regulates the online activities of marketers. At present, very little online advertising is subject to regulation. Banner ads fall within the ASA's remit, but companies' own websites do not. If you've ever read some of my blog entries and clicked on the links, you'll have noticed that many of the featured people and companies make the most bizarre claims on their websites. If the proposals are implemented, I'll probably have to give up my job and become a full time professional complainant. The Register: "ASA to take over Facebook, Twitter regulation" www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/08/asa_facebook_twitter/ASA: "ASA welcomes announcement on digitial remit extension" www.asa.org.uk/Media-Centre/2010/Digital-remit.aspxSLW: "Exciting news!" scepticalletterwriter.blogspot.com/2010/03/news-asa-to-regulate-online-activity.html

Excuse me if I'm been dense here (first posting and all!), but does the change mean they still can't deal with this: www.mosthauntednites.co.uk/?Seance_Evenings"loved ones come close." Seen a lot of posters recently from people advertising contact with "loved ones" as if guaranteed - I am right in thinking this is illegal?

It could be illegal, i am not an expert on this Cassus is. Might be worth contacting Trading Standards and the ASA yourself
