Hi Ok I have made a screen grab of my internet use from a torrent program purely so you can see how my internet speed keeps changing.
I am currently connected to a wireless router, but regardless of if I use the internal wireless on my pc, or external dongles etc, my speed keeps doing as the graph shows, one minute it goes up, and then down. i1083.Report this post to Admin please.com/albums/j393/JonDonnis1/1-49.jpg[/img] I even have a high gain ariel which can connect to connections miles away, yet even when i use that i have the same problem.
When I connect directly to the router with an ethernet cable, there is no problem.
The router is not mine, and i do not have access to its settings, but i do have the password which is how I connect.
I have tried at different times of the day including 6am when I know 100% no one else is online.
I have not changed anything on my computer, and it was working fine a few weeks ago.
Also worth noting the modem speed is about 3mb, where as the most i ever get is about a 3rd of that through wireless.
I have tried reinstalling drivers and so on already.
My computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-Nr11S/S and it is about 2-3 years old I think.
Today I have reset my PC to factory settings, but it still seems to have this cycling internet speed, a bit faster than before but still not solid.
With ethenet cable it is constant and full speed.
To be honest Jon, whatever they say about wifi, dongle etc. it's never the same as a wired connection. I use my laptop pretty much only for banking and when I do it's 3 feet away from my wireless router and I'm lucky to get 5 meg. I have a 20m ethernet which I use when I fix the local's comps. Fuck wifi
