As requested here is a thread on the Hapless Joe Power. Row over TV psychic's bid to contact Lennon spirit 2006/4/19
Psychic Joe Power is gonna attempt to contact John Lennon in an upcoming seance
Row over TV psychic's bid to contact Lennon spiritApr 17 2006
By Mike Chapple, Daily Post
ATTEMPTS to contact the spirit of John Lennon for an American TV show have been branded "exploitative" by representatives of his widow, Yoko Ono.
A local psychic has been chosen by a US-based production company to contact the spirit of the late Beatle for a controversial pay-for-view TV show to be broadcast across North America later this month.
Skelmersdale-born Joe Power was filming The Spirit of John Lennon at Lennon's old haunts around Liverpool last week before being flown out to New York and Los Angeles to see if he can contact his essence there.
"I've been going round where John Lennon used to be and see if I can pick up any of his thoughts and feelings," said 40-year-old Mr Power, who has visited Lennon's old school Quarry Bank - now Calderstones Comprehensive - as well as venues where the band played in the city, including the Jacaranda club, in Slater Street.
But the show has already kicked up a storm of controversy. Made by the LA-based Starcast company, it is a follow-up to another pay-for-view show, The Spirit of Diana, made three years ago in which a seance was held to try to contact the late Princess who died in car crash in 1997.
That show, which for legal reasons was never screened in this country, drew half a million US viewers who paid $14.95 to watch it. The 90-minute Lennon show, which is due to be shown on April 24, will cost viewers $9.95.
However, Elliot Mintz, a spokesman for Yoko Ono, has already branded the programme, "tacky, exploitative and far removed from Mr Lennon's way of life." "John Lennon was an amazing communicator of heart, mind and spirit," said Mr Mintz.. "He still speaks to those who choose to listen to his recordings. That was the medium he chose to speak with us. A pay-for-view seance was never his style."
Starcast president and the show's executive producer, 72-year-old Paul Sharratt, who originally comes from Wolverhampton, accepts that the show, which also features an interview with
former Beatles manager Allan Williams, is considered unacceptable by Yoko.
"We've had to take very high legal advice about what we can actually screen because the John Lennon estate is not going along with it," explained Mr Sharratt, who insisted he is a sceptic.
"People say this is disgusting and I accept that criticism. But we're making a serious attempt to do something that many people around the world think is possible."
He said that they chose Mr Power, who has his own clairvoyance show on British cable TV, because of his growing reputation as a medium in the States.
Mr Power, a former pupil of Digmoor High School, who has helped police on the Lynsey Quy, Helen McCourt and Sarah Payne murder investigations, says that he has already unearthed some interesting revelations about Lennon's life.
He added, though: "I can't go into detail what I've picked up or what Lennon has said to me because of my agreement with Starcast not to be specific until after the programme is broadcast."

2007/11/2 Joe Power - An Evening With
By Lester
Joe Power (aka Joe Bolster, Joe Bolster-Power)
I have been aware of this person, who is seeking fame and fortune, for a while and have viewed his website www.joe-power.com. He has been involved in the Spiritual/Psychic world for some five years. From his web site and indeed posters/leaflets advertising his shows, which have been heavily distributed around the North West at least, it is clear that he has a very high opinion of himself and his apparent self proclaimed psychic abilities.
On his web site he claims, no doubt using his unique psychic abilities, about future show dates and says, “This Show is currently Touring Theatres across the UK and so far has had an incredible response. All performances have been sell outs and people have had to be turned away who were not fortunate enough to get a ticket in time.” This is a complete lie, as I personally know of several shows that were very poorly attended not only recently but also going back months. The only one which was sold out, that I know of, was on 4th August on the Isle of Man. The theatre held 200 and the ticket office told me they had not had a clairvoyant before.
I have seen him work on “Your Destiny” which is available on Sky 178. This program to me was complete and utter nonsense designed to attract those most gullible/desperate for “readings” and at £1.50 per minute. The information Joe (and the other “mediums”) gave to the various questions viewers texted in was either just plain common sense or unsubstantiated comments/statements with no verifiable feedback to confirm any accuracy whatsoever. The presenter continually drones on and pushes for viewers to ring in and speak to their “top psychics” for a reading. In other words this is just a money making machine which thrives on those most vulnerable.
One of the “highlights” that Joe likes to use to give him credibility is the work he has done with the police in helping to solve high profile murder cases. In particular he cites the disappearance and subsequent murder of Lynsey Quy of Southport.
You can see newspaper articles (virtually all the same) on his web site. He mentions going into Southport police station and providing useful information. If this is true then where is there any independent evidence to support this published on his web site. Why cannot he get a letter from the police, on this case and any other that he claims he has been involved in, addressed to him and thanking him for the “useful and valuable new information” that he apparently supplied? He could put such a letter on his web site which would give him credibility and silence his doubters. Without this we just have his “word” that he helped in this way. So until such time that he can prove he actually provided good and new information we are left with no alternative but to entirely question this unqualified aspect of his self-publicity. As such his major stake to fame is completely and totally flawed and should therefore be ignored.
The press do however confirm that a Psychic was asked to help in the murder of Lynsey Quy and this was Uri Geller who told police that he felt that she was near water. Well as Southport is on the coast and Lynsey came from Southport is it not a fair bet that she would be found fairly locally (statistically most victims are). For more information type in “Lynsey Quy murder Southport UK” into “Ask Jeeves” or similar search engine.
Evening of Clairvoyance – Southport Floral Hall 18th August 2005
This was my opportunity to see Joe live. I had read the article about Joe in the local paper (Southport Visiter 15th July) and therefore was looking forward to some accurate and detailed information about those who had passed to Spirit and would make their return. Particularly as Joe had told the reporter “I make sure I’ve got lots of details before saying anything. I’m not going to say I’m getting a Peter, John, or Mark…, I’ll say that I’m getting someone who, say, was the youngest of four children, he had two brothers and a sister, he died of lung cancer at the age of 56”. This would be in sharp contrast to most mediums who throw out very general names and information hoping that someone will speak up and claim it.
I still maintain that if someone from the world of spirit wants to make contact with me in a theatre through a medium then the medium, if they are really tuned into spirit, will come directly to me as the spirit person can tell the medium exactly where I am sitting. Any medium who fails to make contact with the recipient directly can justly be accused of “fishing” the audience and leaves themselves open to various accusations of psychic inadequacy.
The evening started with some 15 minutes of Roberta Lee who is a local drag act and was designed to “liven up” the audience. It had very mixed success.
Then Joe Power was introduced. The stage was set out with a large screen and there was a camera at the side which would home in onto the person Joe would speak to. Two girls with roving mikes were there to go to the recipients so that we could all hear the responses. Joe then started and threw out some very general information and names hoping that someone would claim it. After a little while several people put there hand up and Joe tried to whittle down between them.
He asked questions of them, frequently said someone was passed when they were still alive but did have a few “woolly and loose” hits. Several recipients seemed a bit unsure about what Joe was talking about. This pattern was repeated throughout the whole evening and he gave 10 messages in total. His “performance” was in sharp contrast to his publicity in the paper and on his web site and he came nowhere near to fulfilling his own self-proclaimed abilities. What I witnessed and what was written was as different as chalk and cheese. Very disappointing but unfortunately not a surprise to me. The venue was about three quarters full.
I have and do see exactly the same quality of mediumship in Spiritualist churches for many years. The difference is that churches don’t charge £12 for a ticket (its either a free-will offering or £3-5). In addition you are much more likely to receive a message in a church because the congregations are typically upto 100 people.
Would I see Joe again? Definitely NOT. The whole evening was a complete let down for me and I felt totally misled by his exaggerated publicity. He deserves to fail because he is not being honest in what he does.
The local papers are now full of adverts (this week there are three) publicizing various “Clairvoyant” evenings with different mediums. They make great claims such as:-
“The Worlds most Evidential Medium”
“Britains Most Gifted Medium”
“The North West’s latest acclaimed”
“The UK’s next phenomena” etc etc.
It is now very clear that the general public are getting very wise to these wholly unsubstantiated and grossly exaggerated claims which are not matched by the mediums demonstration. As a result attendances are falling dramatically and rightly so. Its time these “mediums” stopped trying to rip off the public and got a proper honest job.

2006/4/28 Joe Power claims to make contact with John Lennon Joe Power has "apparently" made contact with John Lennon in a tacky TV stunt in America.
Makers of the tacky show "The Spirit of John Lennon" have claimed that the Ex-Beatle said "peace... the message is peace"
The show lasted for 90 minutes and was available through "On Demand" an American Pay Per View service.
It was made without the consent of Lennon's Estate or his wife Yoko Ono.
Skelmersdale-born Joe Power has quite a poor reputation in the UK, so it seems strange that they would choose him to "contact" John Lennon.
Before the seance Yoko Ono had described it as "tacky, exploitative and far removed from Mr Lennon's way of life."
The seance was filmed at La Fortuna restaurant in New York, and also included filmed pieces in Liverpool.
The voice of Lennon was apparently picked up on a digital recording, and is classed as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena)
Organisers have claimed that Joe Power's voice feed went dead for a few seconds and the message was found on it when the tape of the voice feed was played back.
So do you really think that Lennon spoke to Joe Power? No we dont either.
It is expected that at least 500,000 Americans will have watched the special on Monday, and millions of Dollars were made for the TV company.
I guess those Americans have more money than sense, as has already been said, Lennon communicates through his music, if you are a real fan go buy one of his albums.

2006/11/30 Desperate Joe Power(less)
This man (aided by his manager Claudine Hope) is on a desperate mission to become famous and wealthy by hawking his unproven psychic abilities. Any stunt is fair game as is any publicity. Any damage to anyone, vulnerable or otherwise, is just tough as long as his final goal is achieved.
We have just seen the farcical “séance” where he “claims” contact with John Lennon but no new factual information is, as ever, forthcoming. Instead we just have generalities which either we are all already familiar with or are readily available via google. Where is there any verifiable proof of any contact?
In a recent Mirror article he “claims” that the murdered girl Sally Anne Bowman had “visited” him but again we have no verifiable proof whatsoever and the alleged information she gave him is so general. So what use is it to the police? All this does is just give false hope to her grieving family who must be going through hell at this time.
He “claims” to have helped police in other “high profile crimes” but again we have no verifiable proof, from anybody whatsoever, that any information was in fact useful or helpful.
His website continues with major inaccuracies which are months old like “Joe is now currently a regular Psychic medium on “Your Destiny TV” Channel 694, Sky Television.” NOT TRUE. He does not appear in the Your Destiny TV web site as one of their mediums nor does he appear on the TV. In fact channel 694 is not even available. However even the Mirror, and Psychic News report that he is on Your Destiny TV so they have not checked the facts before going to print. Poor journalism! This is just another example of perpetuating a non-existent myth.
The website also tells us that “he is dedicated to working in spiritual churches across the UK”. Funny how churches in the North West refuse to book him. Some have even asked him to leave the development groups because of his disrupting and confrontational behaviour.
The website tells you of his forthcoming shows but does not tell you that he has cancelled 9 of his last 20 publicised. Some of these still feature on the website for weeks even after the show is cancelled. Again this is just another cynical attempt to make out that he is working all over the place when he blatantly is not. Are the venues cancelled because he is absolute rubbish? You decide.
Should you believe anything you see on his website? Of course not. Talking of shows we still remember exposing the “plant” he had at Southport which turned out to be Melanie Winrow one of his office staff (see article Evening With Joe Power on this site). He has never responded to this expose and why he has to cheat. But he did not have to because we all know why he had to resort to a plant. He is a rubbish medium! Does he have other plants at shows he does not cancel?
So there is a whole catalogue of very dubious events:-
· Exploiting the vulnerable · Jumping on the publicity bandwagon · False web site with deceitful information · Sensational claims with no verifiable evidence · Audience plant(s) · Many cancelled shows · Churches will not book him
He and his manager are frantically trying to hype his profile with any media attention but are doing so in such an amateurish way that they are being caught out lying, cheating and misleading the public time after time. Clearly both Joe and his manager remain totally deluded in their farcical, laughable and failing venture. Worse still for them the general public can see this too, so watch out for even more cancelled shows.
If you read or see anything about this person do not just believe it blindly. Anything that he says or does has to be backed up by VERIFIABLE FACTS without them it should all be ignored. So far he has not delivered any VERIFIABLE FACTS and I cannot see this situation changing.
Clearly the cash has not rolled in as he continues to live in a small council flat in Ormskirk and drive an old banger. It’s no more than he deserves.

2007/1/4 7 Joe Power(less) – The Comic Saga Continues In the last few weeks we have been offered an update to his website (www.joe-power.com ) which makes interesting reading notwithstanding the current grammatical, editorial and factual errors. However if we look at his site with a discerning and probing mind we will, once again, see the massive inconsistencies between what he says and what the facts actually are. Moreover of the many bold claims and self proclaimed abilities made, there is a complete lack of any independent verification and confirmation put forward to back up what is said. I wonder why?
Here are just a few examples on his web site of what I mean:-
We are told in the “About Joe” section that he is “taking the psychic world by storm”. Really? Where is the evidence to back this up? What we do know is that he cancelled 10 of his last 20 public shows advertised on his prevamped website. Namely:-
29th Sept 2005 Monton House, Eccles 12th Oct 2005 Floral Pavillion, New Brighton 19th Oct 2005 Arc, Stockton-on-Tees 21/22nd Jan 2006 Physic Weekend, Wigan 24th Jan 2006 Pennie Way Hotel, Oldham 7th May 2006 Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland 8th May 2006 Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland 11th May 2006 Caird Hall, Dundee. 7th July 2006 Sheffield City Hall
Not exactly very popular then is he? Perhaps the “storm” refers to his actions when he found out the tickets were not selling. Also he has (28-7-06) cancelled a course (6th –11th August) he was due to run at Hafan-Y-Coed due to a lack of interest.
We are told that “the accuracy of his public demonstration and crime solving clues are creating a sensation on both side of the Atlantic”. Pardon!
This is the man who had to resort to “odd practice” in a demonstration at Southport Floral Hall on 18th August 2005. To remind those who may be unaware of the background I went to this evening and wrote a report (Click Here To Read) together with a word for word transcript of one of his messages (subsequently analysed by Tony Youens).
Following the publication of my report we had an email from a supporter by the name of Melanie Winrow who complained how unfair and incorrect my report was and that the message that Joe gave her was evidential, correct, she would go and see him again etc.
I then exposed her as one of Joe Power’s marketing people as it was her who emailed out his newsletters. She has been asked to explain herself but of course neither she nor Joe Power or his Manager have ever responded.
Now we come to the crime solving. Joe has claimed in many published articles that he helped Southport Police in the Lyndsey Quy murder case. NOT TRUE! When Southport Police were asked to comment on this Detective Superintendent Geoff Sloan made the following statement:-
“I wish to state, categorically, that as Senior Investigating Officer on the Lyndsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.”
Pretty clear then and again Joe Power and his Manager Claudine Hope have been asked for an explanation. The best that could be mustered was a reply from his Manager stating:-
“Thank you for your email and concern about the Lynsey Quy case. Joe Power did how ever make a statement in the Southport Police station where he spoke with a women officer who gave Joe a receipt for the statement made.”
Pathetic. In other words anybody psychic or complete nitwit can make any sort of statement (helpful or otherwise) but as long as they get a receipt they can then “claim” to have “helped the police”. But significantly the police have stated that Joe did not assist yet he still claims that he did on his website. If this is not misleading then I would like to know what is, particularly as this fact has been brought to his attention months ago.
So we have two completely different stories here. One is clearly false. Who would you believe? The police statement or Joe Power? Bit of a no-brainer really.
He also claims to have “helped” the police in other cases as well. Should we believe this statement? You decide. When we have confirmation from the police on these other cases then we can take notice.
Therefore should ALL his claims and references on his website about helping the police be totally ignored. Again you decide. That’s all of his 6 press articles and the numerous references throughout the site.
You may also recall that recently Joe claimed “through one of his astonishing spirit links” to know the killer of the model Sally Anne Bowman and told the police that the killer was a Stephen or Stephan White, aged between 24 and 26 and a delivery driver. Following DNA evidence the police arrested and charged 36 year old Mark Dixie who is a chef!?
His site tells us that “At the end of 2005 Joe’s manager Claudine Hope was approached by the Canadian Film Company Cineflix to take part in a new series called Psychic Investigators.
Cineflix had heard about Joe’s work on crimes in the UK and overseas. Cineflix in London made arrangements to meet with Joe and Claudine Hope to discuss a case worked Joe worked on years ago in Southport Lancashire. Lynsey Quy was the young lady in the spirit world who appeared to Joe in a nightmarish vision telling him the whereabouts of her remains.”
In fact Cineflix were interested in making a program and approached many mediums several months ago asking if they had any experience in helping the police. Like candy to a baby for Joe Power. I emailed the following letter on 22nd July 2006 to the Managing Directors of Cineflix in Canada(HQ) and also London.
“Dear Sir, 22nd July 2006
I have a very keen interest in the paranormal and as such follow the work of various psychics. Recently I looked on www.joe-power.com and saw under the section “Psychic Investigators” that Cineflix are involved with Joe in relation to the Lyndsey Quy murder case.
This particularly interested me as Joe has cited this case many times in various interviews and was the foundation and keystone for much of his psychic work.
However Detective Superintendent Geoff Sloan of Southport Police when asked about the involvement of Joe Power said:-
“I wish to state, categorically, that as Senior Investigating Officer on the Lyndsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.”
This is a verifiable piece of information which can easily be confirmed by contacting the officer directly. In addition a full article concerning this is available on a website. See www.theskepticexpress.com/Joe_Power_the_Lynsey_Quy_case.php
This is a very serious contradiction between what Joe has actually said and what the reality actually is. There are a number of internet sites which give even more unfavourable comment on Joe Power and importantly do provide verifiable facts to back up statements made there. Just Google “Joe Power”.
Indeed you will find that recently Joe claimed to know the killer of the model Sally Anne Bowman and told the police that the killer was a Stephen/Stephan White, aged between 24 and 26 and a delivery driver. Following DNA evidence the police arrested and charged 36 year old Mark Dixie who is a chef!?
Your website tells us that you are a serious film maker with a trusted reputation for producing quality programming. As such I am sure you would wish to give a true and balanced portrayal to claims made by any psychic. Failure to do so would leave Cineflix totally exposed to ridicule and indeed rightly so. If you are not aware of this background then may I suggest, to safeguard your reputation, that you investigate further. If you are aware then how can you/he explain and justify these many inconsistencies.
I would be very interested in your views and should you require more information then I would be able to provide it.
Regards
Lester”
So far (10th August 2006) no response. Surprised?
There is a section on “The Spirit Of John Lennon” and having looked at this on the site we just have the ramblings of Joe’s vivid imagination but again without any shred of PROOF to back up his claims.
Indeed if you look at the video clip, bearing in mind it has been edited and this is supposed to be the best bit, its laughable. Indeed the whole program has been condemned by many including Yoko Ono. Clearly the whole purpose of the program is to make as much money as possible regardless of facts and credibility.
He has a Case Updates section but strangely this has remained with this message for weeks now and continues (as at 10th August) to do so:-
“This page is currently being constructed and will soon be available. Sorry for the inconvenience and please visit back soon.”
Not strange at all really, I guess they are scratching their heads for something sensible, credible and verifiable to put in here. I have a suggestion for them. How about the TRUTH.
Joe Power tells us on his website that he sees, feels, and hears spirit. Wonderful. So with these “gifts” you would think that when he demonstrates he would be able to go directly to the person for whom the message is for.
After all if my dad wants to give me a message he will know exactly where I am in an audience and direct Joe straight to me. But no, this does not happen. Every time I have seen him demonstrate he throws out general information hoping someone will pick it up and then rambles on with many generalities which can apply to many.
His website tells us that he is also a teacher, healer, does psychic and aura readings, paranormal investigations, police work, past life regression, remote viewing/astral travelling, scanning buildings and psychometry. Indeed, it appears, anything else that will enable him to scrounge some cash off anyone daft enough to engage him. What real credentials does he have for any of this?
If he can do all or indeed some of what he claims then he would win the $1 Million Dollar James Randi Challenge (and others) with ease. But hey, guess what, he has shied away from them all. Any ideas why? Also his popularity would have soared and instead of cancelling shows he would be adding more and more with bigger venues.
The whole website is just a further massive catalogue of sheer bunkum, marketing hype and total delusion. Until he can provide factual and verifiable proof of anything that he does he will remain as ever powerless.

2007/5/3 Joe Power In Yet More Amazing Claims! "Second Only To Sylvia Brown"
Over the top Psychic Entertainer Joe Power is back in the news again, this time he has apparently been asked by the mother of Debbie Griggs to help trace her daughter, who is presumed dead.
Yet the Daily Echo and its usual bad reporting have totally missed the fact that Joe Power is useless when it comes to helping the police.
Despite the claim on his website
"Joe is renowned for his amazing gift in the paranormal field and is increasingly becoming the most proficient profiler in the world."
In the Sally Anne case, Joe was 100% wrong on everything he said. Then there was the Lynsey Quy case, where the Detective Superintendent clearly stated that Joe Power
"claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case"
So why are the Daily Echo taking part in this latest Joe Power lovefest? The only reason I can think of is sensationalism.
The very excellent Tony Youens (www.tonyyouens.com) has done a good write up in his latest commentary, check it out.

2008/2/22 Mark Dixie Gets Life For Sally Anne Bowman Murder, Joe Power Crawls Under A Rock One of the more dispicable psychics we have come across in recent years has been a man by the name Joe Power, we have published a number of articles about him, but he still had his fans.
Well back in May 2006 in the Daily Mirror, Joe Power told reporters that the spirit of the murdered Sally-Ann Bowman told him that the murderer was called Stephen White, between the age of 24 and 26, and he was a delivery driver. Well todays conviction of Mark Dixie for the murder confirms what we all knew anyway, that Joe Power is about as psychic as a potato.
By Jon Donni
Mark Dixie murdered Sally Anne Bowman and has been jailed for life, he will serve a minimum of 34 years in prison. A jury of seven women and five men found him guilty of the murder in September 2005 at Blenheim Crescent, Croydon.
At least now Sally-Anns family can have some kind of closure on this horrific crime. It is just a shame that Joe Power tried to use such a horrendous crime in an effort to further his own career.
This puts him firmly at the bottom of the league of the most dispicable psychics we have come across. We will be publishing a more indepth look at Joe Power within the next few days, chronicling the actions of this man.
In the mean time you can read some of our other articles on Joe Power By Clicking Here
A special thanks to Lester who reminded me of this case, and I look forward to reading his opinions on this case.

2008/2/25 Joe Power(Less) Nailed - By Himself To add to the catalogue of his lack of ability we now have a very public example. It was he who told the Daily Mirror back in May 2006 that that he had been “visited” by the spirit of the murdered Sally-Ann Bowman. She, he claimed, told him lots of information and in particular that the murderer was a Stephan or Stephen White, aged between 24 and 26, who was a delivery driver.
Following the conviction of Mark Dixie, aged 36 and a Chef last Friday 22nd February 2008 we now have absolute proof that he was completely and utterly wrong. One therefore might quite legitimately ask the question “Does he have any psychic ability at all?” You might also think that a decent person would put some sort of explanation or apology on his website. However so far nothing at all.
This shows therefore the complete and irrevocable proof of Joe Power(less’s) delusion, total lack of quality, accuracy and integrity that remotely resembles anything bordering psychic. Irrespective of these facts he still (today) has the impudence and arrogance to say the following on his web site.
“The accuracy of his private readings, public demonstrations, celebrity predictions and crime-solving clues are creating a sensation on both sides of the Atlantic”
Also “Since 2000 Joe has been involved in several high-profile murder cases, after the spirit world called on him to help solve the mysteries that were leaving detectives baffled. Joe has worked with The Met and Merseyside Police and a criminal justice company.”
Well Joe I offer a challenge to you PROVE IT! Show us all (or indeed any of) the evidence to back up these statements.
His web site continues, “So UK psychic Joe continues to investigate and work tirelessly on other unsolved cases around the world, using his gift to help grieving families find the closure that his own may sadly never experience.”
Again Joe show us just ONE where you have successfully helped to solve any crime anywhere in the world.
Without any verifiable proof these are just meaningless and empty statements with no credence whatsoever. Indeed he used to highlight on his website how he helped Southport Police in the Lydsey Quy murder. He was exposed because when Southport Police were asked to comment on this Detective Superintendent Geoff Sloan made the following statement:-
“I wish to state, categorically, that as Senior Investigating Officer on the Lyndsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.”He has now removed reference to this specific case by name. Why is that Joe?
On one of his previous editions of his fact-less web site he did have a section called “Case Updates” this was to update us on the various crimes he allegedly was supposed to be working on. However this remained empty for over 8 months and then was completely removed. Again why was this. Well Joe now is your opportunity to reinsert it and tell us how wrong you were not only in this case but also all the others you claim. Don’t hold your breath dear reader.
His popularity is now so non existent he has been forced to team up with Diane Lazarus and be her warm up lackey act at her shows, as he cannot hold an audience on his own. This is clearly proven because he has only 8 shows, for the whole of this year, currently on his site where he is apparently the sole psychic. All the others listed (currently some 42?) are where he is the warm up lackey and stooge for Lazarus.
Indeed his website is continually cancelling published show dates (I use the term “show” in its loosest sense you understand) on virtually a daily basis. Up to today he has already cancelled 32!!! of those he had listed for 2008 and its only February!
Remember this is the person who cancelled 44% of his publicised shows in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and is still doing the same. If Joe remains true to form he will no doubt be cancelling many more shows again for the remainder of this year.
Therefore any dates (or indeed anything else) on his website should really be treated as his wishful thinking rather than actual fact. A bit like his psychic ability really?
So with this backdrop can any sensible discerning person take Joe or anything he says seriously? Clearly not. I would suggest if you thought of going to any “show” where he features that you keep your hard earned cash in your pocket. He has proved himself to be a failed and powerless non-psychic entity with great delusions of grandeur.
His downward spiral has steadily continued and now, surely, lets hope that his non existent psychic “career” is over and not before time. Not that it ever started but something tells me he will continue to battle and struggle on regardless of the facts which show him to be totally useless and desperate.

2008/5/15 Derek Acorah & Joe Powers "TV Mediums Are Ripping People Off" TV psychics Derek Acorah and Joe Powers have fantastically spoken up against fraudulent mediums and in favour of the new Consumer Protection Regulations, which will see Spiritualists who charge for their services treated the same way as double-glazing salesmen.
In an article published in the Ormskirk Advertiser, Acorah stated: ‘It (the new law) would peter out all the phony mediums. Most mediums are genuine, the real thing, but there is a small minority who are not. There are people being targeted by them across the world … Genuine mediums who have been known and trusted for many years will not have to worry’
It would seem, however, that a great deal of the UK’s psychic population are, indeed, worrying. The counter petition against the repealing of the Fraudulent Mediums Act, handed to the government on 19 April this year, was signed by no less than 2612 Spiritualist supporters.
Acorah assured the Advertiser that spiritual mediums are tried and tested by the Spiritualist Church and that, in itself, is proof enough that they are genuine. He told the newspaper: ‘ … I’m not perturbed at all, I’ve been working as a spiritual medium for 30 odd years.’ However, if we needed only one reason to doubt the authenticity of British Spiritualism, then maybe that is it.
Interestingly, Accorah added, it would seem, with concern: ‘What we do is a religion like any other and the government should not be getting involved. If this government bill is passed then could have a serious effect on religion.’ Maybe he’s just little perturbed then?
‘Celebrity’ medium Joe Powers also jumped on the bandwagon stating: ‘TV mediums are ripping people off. The place is saturated with fake mediums getting away with playing on people’s emotions ....’ Very interesting indeed. Maybe these guys have been reading BadPsychics after all …

2008/6/30 Joe Power(less)- 6 Month Fiasco Report
Thought it would be interesting to carry out a 6 month audit a bit like a financial review but for this failed psychic.
There are/were two web sites which feature Joe. One is joepower.com which has been around in various guises for a number of years and now we also have/had the new one which came out in early 2008 (hopeandpowerproductions.com) which seems to be some joint concoction between his manager Claudine Hope and himself. However this second site mysteriously has been off air from 25th April??
But before the second site went off air you would think that they would be in synchronicity with each other particularly as they both feature Joe Power and his manager Claudine Hope and they are supposedly working closely together. Err not so.
Both web sites had an area which displayed the shows that Joe will “apparently” be doing. One site has them under “Productions” and the other site has them under “Joe on Tour”. Trouble is that the dates did not tie in with each other. For example on 15th April 2008 the Hope & Power site displayed 10 shows in June, while the Joe Power site displayed only 3 for the same period. September displayed 11 against 16. In fact from May to November none of the shows were the same on both sites. Bizarre.
In January there was a big razzmatazz on Joe Power’s web site referring to The Psychic Connextions Tour featuring Joe and Diane Lazarus. Various dates were shown throughout the whole year giving an impression that this would be a massive countrywide tour. Diane Lazarus’s web site at this same time however featured only 3 shows none of which coincided with anything Joe Power was doing on the same night.
Then early in April it was announced on the Joe Power web site that:
“Hope and power productions regrets to inform you that The Psychic Connextions Tour has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and is being replaced with an exciting new tour staring Joe Power.” All references to Diane Lazarus with whom he was supposed to be doing the tour were removed.
But several weeks later the Hope & Power web site was still advertising “The Psychic Connextions Tour with Diane Lazarus and Joe Power”, as well as shows that had already been cancelled. This is all just farcical and make a complete mockery of the following statement on the same site “Claudine’s professionalism has lead her to produce Hope & Power’s new and exciting show The Psychic Connextions Tour”. Professionalism? Seemingly she is to professionalism what Joe is to being Psychic.
The venue booking situation must be very volatile, it really is difficult to keep up, as Joe Power’s web site has show date changes on virtually a daily basis as more and more shows are cancelled. So should you believe anything on his web site?
Also up until the 30th June 2008 the Joe Power web site had advertised 64 shows. However of those advertised 51 had been cancelled. This represent a massive 79% cancellation rate. Indeed if you click on the “Buy Ticket” button you are often directed to the Ticketmaster site which says “Sorry, but this event no longer exists in our database.”
A course he was booked to run at Hafan-y-coed from 22-27th June has also been cancelled.
If his track record remains the same then the other shows featured for the second half of the year will also be slashed by 75+%!!
One could logically come to the conclusion that the vast majority of his show dates are nothing more than wishful/desperate thinking on Joe’s part in a vain and desperate effort to appear popular. The real truth from the massive cancellations is that he is very unpopular. In spite of this he asks that we vote for him in the forthcoming “Spiritual Connections Acknowledgement Awards”. Well the only category that he has any chance of winning is in one that does not exist. That would be “The Psychic who has cancelled the most shows in the shortest time.” He would win this hands down.
Further evidence of Joe Power’s poor ability was confirmed in March ( I am being very polite here) when Mark Dixie, aged 34 and a chef was convicted of the murder of Sally Anne Bowman. Remember that Joe Power told us all via the Daily Mirror that the killer was a Stephan or Steven White aged between 24 and 26 and was a delivery driver.
In March he tells us that he gave significant names in the Shannon Matthews disappearance case and ensured he was photographed with the family for the newspapers. Funny how he seems unable to do these things without courting publicity. But as always there is no verifiable proof of any value to what he allegedly gave. Strange though that he did not pick up on or make comment on what we now know about her mother, step father and other members of the family. The court case later on in the year will no doubt unravel the whole story.
All in all the first 6 months of 2008 have, true to form, been an un-mitigating disaster as once again he has failed to make any impact.

2008/11/20 Joe Power(less) Another Disastrous Year
This year was clearly to be a major re-launch or big push to try and promote this failed and flawed psychic who is so desperate to become popular and be a “psychic star”. I say this because his website this year advertised 103 shows at venues across the UK (also includes 2 in Ireland).
These commenced from 2nd February and went through till 19th November. Ticket prices ranged from £10-20 depending on location. These included shows where he was supposed to work on his own and others where he was to work with others.
This was in very sharp contrast to the 25 that had been advertised the previous year (although he cancelled 3 so actually did 22).
Well where you do you start? There is so much which went wrong.
By Lester: **Update 23rd November**
Early on in the year we also had a great fanfare on his website telling us all about the fantastic “Psychic Connextions Tour” with 60 dates all over the country from March to November. These were to feature Joe Power and the winner of channel 5’s Psychic Challenge, Diane Lazarus. How many dates did they actually do together? No more than 2. All the rest were cancelled early in April due to, as his web site said and I quote, “unforeseen circumstances”. This meant that all the dates were re-jigged and re-labelled to show that they would now only feature him
Did not work I am afraid. His popularity was so poor that he had to cancel shows all over the country. In fact he cancelled a total of 87, yes that’s right 87 of the 103 shows advertised on his very own website. This represents a massive 84%+ cancellation rate. Astonishing! Most of the shows were cancelled a few days before the show date when it was clear that ticket sales had been absolutely disastrous. Contacting some of the theatres I was told that the cancellation was “due to illness”. Poor man he must have some very severe condition (acute egomania-itus?) which has the uncanny knack of rearing its ugly head just days before the shows. Of course it could not possibly or remotely have anything to do with the disastrous ticket sales, could it? I wonder how much the cancellation fees and wasted newspaper adverts amounted to? A lot I hope. So in fact he actually carried out a paltry 16 shows this year as opposed to 22 last year.
So his mammoth re-launch went down like a lead balloon and the downward spiral continues.
However the cancelled shows still remained on his web site for weeks after they had already been scrapped. Some might say that this was just a cynical tactic to mislead the viewer into thinking that he had actually carried out more shows than he had.
In February his “abilities” were totally exposed and debunked by no other person than himself. You may recall he told the Daily Mirror in May 2006 that the killer of Sally Anne Bowman was a Steven or Stephan White, aged between 24 to 26 and a delivery driver. However in February 2008 at the Old Bailey Mark Dixie aged 34 and a chef was convicted of her murder. He has made reference to “assisting the police” in other cases but as always does not provide any verifiable evidence to support any of his own assertions. Again we have to ask why. But we do know that his verifiable track record, as shown above, is abysmal.
Just a word on the short article that recently appeared in The People newspaper claiming that Joe got a few things right in the Shannon Mathews case. Funny that they do not also tell us what he got completely wrong. Bear in mind this is a tabloid that is well known for its honest, accurate and discerning investigative journalism which never makes any unsubstantiated claims. I think not!
First of all who provided the information to the paper. Was it the ever publicity seeking Joe Power, his manager or someone from the Matthews family or friends. Who ever it was we cannot take the information seriously as like any of his previous claims there is no verifiable poof provided. If Joe was so certain of his “abilities” then why did he not ensure that the reading was recorded and provide the tape to the paper at that time. Then as the truth came out we could refer to the tape and what was actually said at that time. It’s not rocket science but I imagine that that is the very reason Joe did not record the reading.
What we do know, as a fact, is that his previous attempts have been completely wrong as highlighted above in the Sally Ann Bowman case. Yet incredibly in this latest article it says “Joe- who worked with police on the Sally Anne Bowman murder case”.
So clearly Joe’s definition of working with the police is to provide them with completely the wrong information. Just confirms that he continues to live in fantasy land.
Over the last few years I have been extremely critical about this individual and the various unsubstantiated claims that he has made about his “abilities“. I have posted a number of articles on web sites which, supported by facts, show that he is not at all that which he claims to be. But not once has he or his manager responded to any of the criticisms in these, or tried to defend themselves in anyway whatsoever. The only defence, some years ago, was by a Melanie Winrow who refuted my first published article and claimed that Joe was a very good psychic. I subsequently exposed her as one of Joe’s marketing staff and no subsequent defence was made.
Why would Joe not defend himself? Is it because he knows what I say is true? Unless he confronts his many critics head on and defends his position he will continue to be ridiculed and vigorously challenged at every opportunity and rightly so.
A number of websites (funded by him?) which promote Joe (and only Joe) have either disappeared or have lain dormant for years without any updates. Clearly they have nothing of interest to say about him.
His Celebrity predictions for 2007 and 2008 on his very own site have remained absolutely blank! Why is this? Clearly he has not got a clue what to put in here. One wonders why he even has it in his site?
He was scheduled to run a course (what credentials he has to run a course is baffling) at Hanfan-y-Coed from 26th-31st October at a cost of £250 per person. Several days before the course start date he was sending out desperate emails offering £100 off (40%) to try and get people to come on it. A day before the start he had only 6-7 booked and the centre had hoped for at least 20. If any of the attendees paid full price they would no doubt be delighted if others got the £100 discount.
He also sent out an email promoting a show in Bootle on 7th November on the day of the actual show. Again another desperate measure to try to attract somebody to attend. Oddly enough he did not bother to even advertise this one on his own web site??
So once again another disastrous year which has seen the steady decline of dear Joe. Will he continue to attempt to crawl up the show biz ladder? Probably. Will he get anywhere? No!
It just goes to show that if you put a lot of claims on your own web site which are unsupported by hard verifiable facts then the public will find you out. It may take a little time but find you out they will. Joe you have been found out and that is why it has been a disastrous year for you and not before time. I will be keeping tabs in 2009.
Oh and bye the way, I see that Joe had a bright idea and engaged a PR company some months back with the very eloquent name of “Media b**ch” (www.mediab**ch.com). He had a link to them on his website which has now been removed.
However at the moment (20th November 2008) they still feature him in their PR section. Interestingly several of their clients promote sexual toys. One in particular is called the Nexus Range. What does this company sell? I shall quote directly from their web site “Inspired to create stylish and sexy G-spot massagers for the much neglected male market”. These are in fact some sort of rubber looking extrusions which should be inserted up the anus for sexual gratification. Clearly Joe has found exactly the right media company to portray his unique talents!!
Update: I posted my latest article on Thursday (20th) and on Saturday (22nd) Joe releases his again re-vamped web site. Coincidence??
I note that as usual it has its share of bad grammar and spelling mistakes but he has now removed the section on “Celebrity Predictions” which remained blank for the last 2 years. Obviously an action as a result of my question in my article.
He now laughingly compares himself to Mozart. As a quote off his site reveals “Just like Mozart, his combination of ability is unmatched. His fans are attracted to his relaxed, egoless demeanor, utter compassion for humanity and drive to use his gifts to help people.” Sorry I just fell off my chair laughing!
I am also a bit puzzled by the reference to “his fans” because if he had some then why did he have to cancel 87 shows this year?
Additionally his web site says “The accuracy of his private readings, public demonstrations, celebrity predictions and crime-solving clues….” Excuse me! But he has just deleted the Celebrity Predictions section and we know how fantastic his crime solving clues were which he demonstrated in the Sally Ann Bowman case.
He also reverts back to the Lydsey Quy murder and tells us that he “wrote a letter to the chief inspector Bob Marsden and took it to the police station in person. I never heard from him. Five months later, Marsden was replaced with a new chief inspector named Jeff Sloane who never saw my information.”
Excuse me, this is the very same Jeff Sloane who put out a statement saying that “Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.” In order for him to put out this statement he would have had to have had all the facts and reviewed the case. Therefore he would have reviewed what ever Joe gave and dismissed it.
Oh dear Joe, you will have to try harder.

2009/5/12 Joe Power & Shannon Matthews i127.Report this post to Admin please.com/albums/p134/JonDonnis/2-20.jpg[/img]
*Since Joe is in the media at the moment thought I would bump up this article*
Over the last few weeks there has been much coverage of this case in the media which culminated in a guilty verdict for both Karen Matthews and Michael Donovan. Sentencing is to follow and they have both been told to expect a custodial sentence.
As has been reported Joe Power visited Karen Matthews and her partner Craig Meehan at their home and gave them a reading. We have no independent and verifiable evidence whatsoever of anything that was said by anybody to anyone other than what Joe Power has said and what the Sunday People reported. We do know however categorically that Joe’s verifiable track record in cases like this is that he either gets the information completely wrong (Sally Anne Bowman case) or the information is useless (Lyndsey Quy murder case).
We also know that in spite of asking him on many occasions to supply verifiable evidence on ANY CASE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD that he claims to have worked on. He still is unable to do so. Surely if he had any proper evidence he would have it plastered all over his web site as cast iron proof of his “claimed abilities”. As well as running to the various tabloids trying to hawk his story. But no this has not happened. I will leave you to conclude why this is.
It may be that Joe is now focussing his activities on “Police Investigations” because his shows have been such a disaster this year with 87 cancellations and minimal public interest.
Now to get back to the specifics of this case. Here was a prime candidate situation for Joe to exploit. A missing child, grieving mother, community interest and a massive public interest story particularly following on from Madeline McCann. In other words an ideal opportunity to get some much sort after publicity to help his non existent psychic career. We know that he seeks and courts publicity because he had his picture taken with Karen Matthews and some bits of the reading publicised in the Sunday People. There was nothing to stop him from doing this reading privately and not bringing the papers into it at all. But alas this is not Joe’s style. So what was HIS motive with the publicity? Who was he out to help. Himself?
The reading itself is a non-event because we just do not know what actually transpired. But fundamentally any psychic who had any mildly basic abilities would have picked up that Karen Mathews was deeply involved. After all he says on his own web site that “ he is clairvoyant, clairaudient, and clairessient” that is to say he claims to see, hear and feel spirit.
He also wrote this on his web site about his guides “ It truly shows how accurate my guides are when I work with them on criminal cases. I trust what is presented to me and continue my adamant participation in crime mysteries.” Bearing this in mind you would have thought they would have told him something as fundamental as the fact that the mother was involved. But no, they seemed to overlook this very point. Clearly his guides (if he has any) are just as dense as him. Makes his web site laughable!
However I would not be at all surprised to hear that Joe will now be making all sorts of claims (all unsubstantiated off course as is his norm) that he knew all along who the real culprits in this sorry saga where etc etc and will no doubt be trying to get this into any paper daft enough to publish.
So Joe has remained true to form in this case as in all his other “claims” and has not provided a shred of real evidence and without which he should not be believed except by the most gullible.

2009/5/25 Joe Power: Psychic Detective… although not a detective, and not psychic
The Liverpool Echo recently ran a charmingly-sympathetic feature on local corpse-finder and celeb-séancer Joe Power.
For those of you with good memories for niche outré pieces of pop-culture tat (and why the hell wouldn’t you?), Joe was the chap who chatted with a posthumous John Lennon back in 2006.
The reason why many of you wouldn’t have known that - coincidentally the same reason that all of modern science wasn’t turned entirely on its head, causing scientists and philosphers the world over to fall to their knees, beating their breast and cursing their wasted lives in pursuit of damned reason - was that he didn’t actually talk to John Lennon.
John Lennon’s dead, he’s not talking to anyone these days, least of all Joe Power (his name gets better the more you say it aloud. Joe Power. Joe Power). More details on that can be found all over the internet. Go ahead, check, I’ll wait.
These days Joe tends to use his ‘powerful gift’ (because his name’s Joe Power. Good punning, Liverpool Echo) to help police with their investigations - the latest being his help in locating Madelaine McCann. Joe Power says:
“I believe I have seen the face of the person who abducted Madeleine and it is not dissimilar to the sketch which the detectives released after help from Jane Tanner”
So his psychic ability appears to have led him to confirm the information police came up with on their own and which they have been working on for a while now. Handy. Coincidentally, my own psychic ability leads me to confirm that the River Mersey is wet, that the sky is blue, and that Joe Power is a fraud. If he can retrodict, so can I.
This isn’t Joe Power’s first foray into the world of psychic detection. In the past Joe Power (who’s name really does get better each time you say it out loud) has made similar claims, including having played pivotal roles in the investigations into the death of Sarah Payne and the disappearance of Shannon Matthews - two high-profile cases that were solved without a mention of psychic intervention.
“The police never like to admit they have come to ask me but I have kept all their emails on past cases,” says Joe Power
If that’s the case, then this sceptic is more than satisfied - simply go on record with the emails, Joe Power, show the world that they exist and I will doff my cap, bend my knee, eat my words and personally carry you to the door of the JREF to collect your $1million. But, it seems, the police are indeed reticent to give Joe Power the credit Joe Power deserves - after claims of psychic involvement in the investigation of Lynsey Quy’s murder in 1998, the following official statement was issued by Detective Superintendent Sloan:
“I wish to state, categorically, that as the Senior Investigating Officer on the Lyndsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case.” Source - Skeptic Report, January 2007
This seems pretty cut and dry - an emphatic denial of the use of psychics in the police force. As Greg O’Keefe mentions in his article:
“…you don’t hear of many psychics who are regularly contacted by Metropolitan police detectives for help cracking grisly murder cases.”
Too true Greg, too true. In fact, I’d go further - you don’t hear of ANY psychics who are regularly contacted by any police for help psychicly cracking anything. As Scotland Yard themselves will confirm:
“There is no recorded instance in England of any psychic solving a criminal case or providing evidence or information that led directly to its solution.” Source: JREF Encyclopedia
So Joe Power - despite his media-friendly local-boy-come-good life story, his dead-celeb hob-nobbing, and his entirely awesome name (it sounds best in a superhero voice, I’ve discovered) - is not a psychic detective. He is not even a psychic OR a detective. Joe Power is little more than, well… I believe it was Greg O’Keefe himself who mentioned a ‘publicity-seeking psychic personality’…
*Joe Power will be signing copies of his book at Waterstone’s, Bold St, Liverpool at noon on Saturday, June 6. I’m just mentioning. I’m not in any way suggesting anybody should attend. And say his name. In superhero voices. Incessantly.
** Update: Joe Power has his own Facebook fan page, which you can visit. I’ve left my thoughts there, if you decide to follow suit please be kind, many of the people there have suffered real losses which have sadly lead them to believe Joe Power is magic.

2009/5/26 Joe Power(less) Liverpool Echo Article Dissection
We recently posted an article about Joe Power, due to a piece in the Liverpool Echo. Well the ever excellent Lester has decided to have a closer look at the Liverpool Echo piece.
Well here we have it. Another “Fantasy Island” story by Liverpool Echo reporter Greg O’keefe. Clearly he has reported what dear Joe has told him but as always there is not a shred of evidence to backup his own self proclaimed and deluded abilities.
Lets inspect what Joe says:-
“Greg O’keeffe speaks to psychic investigator Joe Power IT IS disconcerting how casually Joe Power slips into conversation that he has chatted to John Lennon and Princess Diana.”
Well do forgive me but where is the evidence to back any of this up. Answer there isn’t any. However there was a big song and dance made about the “message” that John Lennon gave Joe which he could “tell the world”. What was this gem that allegedly came from John Lennon to dear Joe? It was, now brace yourselves, “The message is Peace”. Wow!! Considering John was well known for his views about Peace this is about as earth shattering as watching paint dry. But hey to Joe this is evidence.
The article goes on to say, “The natural sceptic could be forgiven for instantly confining his claims to the bin marked publicity-seeking psychic personality.”
Well Greg got it absolutely right here.
“But then something about this softly-spoken Liverpool-born and Skelmersdale-raised father-of-three is distinctly different from the showmen of Living TV’s Ghost Hunters.”
Yep got that right. Living TV’s Ghost Hunters are well known and Joe is not, although desperately wants to be.
“For a start you don’t hear of many psychics who are regularly contacted by Metropolitan police detectives for help cracking grisly murder cases.”
Well actually you don’t hear of any and there is no evidence again from anywhere that Joe has helped any police force anywhere in the universe.
“But that is the norm for Joe, who is highly-regarded for the accuracy of his spiritual readings and public demonstrations.”
That’s right he is so highly regarded that he cancelled 87 of his 103 advertised shows last year.
“Now, he is temporarily back in the north west to promote his new book The Man Who Sees Dead People”.
Is he looking in a mirror? I shall not be buying his book as I am sure it is a work of self delusion and extraordinary fiction liberally sprinkled with an assortment of completely unsubstantiated and verifiable claims.
“and has also spoken for the first time about his attempts to help in the Madeleine McCann investigation. Using the help of his psychic guides Joe believes he has discovered a location in Praia Da Luz where Madeleine was taken to after her disappearance. The sketch of the remote house which he saw in his psychic trance was sent to Portuguese police last year and more recently to the new British detective team hunting for the missing child. “If I had a professional team with me I could guide them to that house and I’m convinced Madeleine has been there or is still there,” says Joe. “I believe I have seen the face of the person who abducted Madeleine and it is not dissimilar to the sketch which the detectives released after help from Jane Tanner. “There is specific information I have coming through that might help to build up the complete picture of what happened. There is a chemists in the resort too and the person who abducted Madeleine would have some association with the area by the chemists. “If they could find that house I firmly believe that would lead to finding Madeleine. I get the feeling she has not left Portugal. I’d be prepared to go over there and help but at the same time I don’t want people to think I’m trying to cash in on Madeleine. The book isn’t about her and I only mention my visions on her case briefly towards the end.”
This excerpt makes me want to vomit. If he is so concerned in helping in this case why does he not do it quietly with out all the hullabaloo of going public. He has no verifiable track record of any success in these cases.
“Joe’s own personal story makes interesting reading. He started having visions and out of body experiences as a young boy in Skelmersdale and initially didn’t realise he was the only one experiencing it. When he realised he was alone in his visions he became lonely and withdrawn, and later he claims, a magnet for vindictive teachers. It also led to teasing and bullying from fellow pupils and he was written off as a lost cause. To protect himself, Joe acted tough and wound up in a series of petty gangs which led to spending time in youth offenders institutions.”
I would love to hear what his teachers have to say about him.
“He continued to deny his psychic abilities until the day one of his brothers was murdered. He saw the grim truth emerge via psychic visions and he decided he could no longer ignore his visions. There was nothing for us on the streets of Skem,” says Joe. “I had no direction and I fell into crime.”
You do not just fall into crime but have to make a conscious decision to break the law.
“ I got locked up for 18 months for something as stupid as nicking bags of frozen scampi from a supermarket. I’ve also been in prison down south and in Walton when I got caught for credit card fraud up here.”
I find it very hard to believe that it was just the nicking of frozen scampi that he got 18 months for. What else had he done to warrant such a sentence. He also confirm that he is a convicted fraudster. Some people might say that a leopard never changes its spots.
“But I believe my difficult past was preparation for helping people with all levels of problems. After my brother died I decided to use my psychic power to help solve murder cases and give the loved ones of victims some closure. Joe’s book provides fascinating insight into some of the cases he has worked on; from Shannon Matthews disappearance, Merseyside murder victim Helen McCourt, 16-year-old Liverpool gunshot victim Liam Kelly and 18-year-old model Sally Anne Bowman.”
Where’s the evidence Joe? His exploits on the Shannon Matthews case were farcical. There he was again seeking publicity and getting the Sunday People to photograph him with Karen Matthews who we all know now was deeply involved. But at the time Joe, who believes in what his guides are telling him, did not realise that Karen Matthews was deeply involved. As regards Sally Anne Bowman we all know that in the Daily Mirror Joe told us all that the murderer was a Stephan or Steven White aged 27 and a delivery driver. Some time later Mark Dixie aged 34 and a chef was convicted of her murder. Proving once again he is about as psychic as my door handle. But he still perpetuates the myth that he helped the police.
“The police never like to admit they have come to ask me but I have kept all their emails on past cases,” he says.”
Yes we all believe that statement don’t we.
“Joe also performs live readings on TV and recently contacted a murder victim in Tokyo in front of 25 million viewers.”
Any evidence Joe to back this up? Just a thought.
“I’m not into these flamboyant psychics running around houses,” he says. “I don't do fortune telling either. “I’ve got to take it seriously because I’m dealing with people’s loved ones.”
Not to mention how much cash you make.
“But there is a more light-hearted side to his gift, highlighted when he brought through the spirit of John Lennon on US TV. Even famous musicians like John and then Royals like the Queen Mother are only spiritual souls like everybody else. My powers work the same way for every level of society; from the Queen Mum to a homeless man on the street.”
Trouble is Joe you do not ever provide the EVIDENCE of your self proclaimed powers.
So there you have it. Joe has confirmed to us all that he is a convicted fraudster with a criminal record for several offences. Now he might be a reformed character but one question that you should ask yourself bearing in mind his recent track record.
Should I believe anything that he says Should I attend any of his shows (assuming they are not cancelled) Will his book be true and accurate
I know where I stand.

2009/7/6 ‘Psychic’ Joe Power and the Two-Man-Mob Cool drizzle fell onto the grey Saturday streets of Liverpool, a light breeze tumble-weeded a sweet wrapper down the road in a clichéd fashion, and I was becoming increasingly aware that this would be the strangest conversation of my life. And I didn’t need psychic powers for that. For I was in the company of ‘Psychic’ Joe Power, fresh from his latest in-store book-signing (signed copies of which, I add, are still on the shelves of Waterstones - supply quite exceeded demand it seems), and things were getting weird.
“The thing about you sceptics,” he said, standing on the step of a plus-size lingerie shop to raise himself to my eye-level, “is that you sit there, festering in front of your computers at 3am, thinking up ways to get at people. What if I were to sit in front of your house and tell people you’re a paedophile?”
“Well,” I say, “that’s for you to decide to do if you want to but it’s not really the same thing - I’m raising questions over what you do and the service you claim to provide; insinuating I was a paedophile would be just a personal attack, and wildly baseless. It’s not really the same thing. At all.”
“Oh I think they’re very similar,” he answers, “because you’re there festering, at 3am, plotting to get at me, in the same way that paedophiles fester and plot to interfere with children - you both have to be sick in the head to do what you do.”
With Herculean effort to suspend my natural what-the-fuck? reaction, and with a curt politeness that in retrospect now seems other-worldly, I manage a swift retort: ”Sorry, can I just clarify - are you comparing sceptics to paedophiles? Could you explain that? I mean, are you saying that paedophiles also ask questions of you, or what exactly?”...........................

Derren Brown is back on our screens on the 10th of May on Channel 4 with his brand new show. And yours truly has managed to have a sneak peek at the show, and I will share my thoughts on it here.
Firstly the official blurb from Ch4 In this brand new series, Derren Brown is hitting the road to see if some of the extraordinary claims that are out there are real.
During the hour, Derren Brown travels to Liverpool to investigate the world of Joe Power, a psychic medium who claims he can communicate with the dead. Joe alleges that one of the many he’s made contact with, is Liverpool’s own, John Lennon.
In today’s Britain, many people turn to psychics for comfort but anyone can be a medium without having a licence. They just have to show that they can communicate with the dead. The claims that Joe Power makes are large scale and quite serious. Derren hopes to be blown away by Joe and experience firsthand all that he can’t explain on this extraordinary, unexpected and a little bit argumentative journey…
Review by Jon Donnis: Being the owner of the UK's largest and most popular skeptical site gives me some priviliges, one of which is close connections with many people in the media.
I was invited to see a late draft of the first episode in Derren Browns new show. The version I saw ran 59 minutes, however I believe the final version to be aired will run 50 minutes with 15 minutes of commercials.
So before I continue make sure to put this in your diaries. When: 10th May 2010 Time: 10pm Channel: Ch4
Ok onto the show. Now since this show hasn't aired yet I have to be careful what I say as obviously I cant reveal too much, so I will do as Joe Power does and keep it vague.
The basic idea of the series is a simple one, Derren investigates people who claim paranormal abilities, and of course what better person to investigate than the master of manipulation, the Prince of Psychology, the Monk of Mind Control (Ok so that was a bit weak) anyway what better person than Derren.
This was filmed roughly a year ago, and at the time Joe Power was bragging about being on the show and working with a legitimate big name like Derren, shortly after filming Joe started to complain. Well after watching the show I can see why he might not be too happy, but the only person to blame is Joe himself.
Joe starts off really well, and comes across very nice, but as the show goes on Joe Power has this incredible knack of digging himself into a huge hole. He calls Derren a liar a few times, and of course when he does we get a quick flashback clip that shows that Derren of course is telling the truth.
Will this show end Joe Powers career? I dont think so, for there will always be gullible people who fall for his act, but it will surely open the eyes of many of his fans to some of his techniques.
We also get a special appearance from Prof. Richard Wiseman, which was a nice touch, and a nice change from the over exposed Chris French.
I must say up until the final 30 seconds of the show, I did feel like something was missing, a final nail in the coffin so to speak, I just wanted more, and in classic Derren fashion we get it, with something of a twist. I wont spoil it, but it is a classic.
Joe Power and his fans will be watching this show through their fingers, for believers in Joe it will be excrutiating, but for the rest of us open minded normal people, it is nothing less than a great piece of television.
Derren Brown is finally back to his best, and if the first episode is anything to go by, this is going to be one hell of a series.
Top marks Derren!

Joe Power is a vile little creature who I've come across a number of times. The man is desperate for fame & is very envious of the success of the likes of Derek Acorah & Colin Fry. Power has launched many an unsuccessful theatre tour in the major theatres used by Acorah & Fry, on one occasion I was working on a show at Newcastle City Hall & the theatre manager asked if I had heard of him. I laughed as the city hall is a 2000 capacity venue, & asked the manager if Power had booked there. The manager replied by saying Power kept phoning him up asking how many tickets had sold, the manager kept telling him none. Power kept along why no tickets had sold & the managers response was because no one had heard of him. Suffice to say, this tour, like all of his others were cancelled due to lack of interest.
On another occasion I was working on a Best of British Mediumship show at Liverpool Empire. At the end of the show the 3 mediums, TJ Higgs, Tony Stockwell & Colin Fry were doing an autograph signing, when I recognised a drunken Joe Power in the queue. He then physically attacked TJ Higgs & started hurling insults at her. At this point, we grabbed Power as Colin Fry shouted to security to have Power removed from the building. as he was been dragged out, power started hurling drunken insults at Colin Fry, called him a fraud & saying that he was much better then Fry & should be on TV.
A couple of weeks later at a show in Southport I saw Power handing out leaflets for his tour to the audience going into a Colin Fry show. I approached Power & said I didn't want him there. He hurled a few swear words at me before departing into the night. I picked up one of his leaflets from the ground & it was announcing the UK tour of Britains number one PHYSIC medium, Joe Power.

Glad I could help, now in return help publicise this thread in other places you go. If people don't know about this stuff then how can they ever learn the truth
