And back to Thomas John, I still find him amazingly accurate. Not from a small snippet of one episode but after listening to many many episodes. He's a regular on the show. Yes he does ask questions like who's (fill in the blank) but almost always it is a close family relative like spouse, parent or child. I don't see how that's so easy to guess. Also as far as the episode that was critiqued, no Canada is not easy five hour drive from NYC (I live in NYC) I've never been and I don't know anyone from there and as far as I know no one I know has family there so no that's not an easy hit. Now if he had said NJ, Ct any other state ok. Also, and don't know where the caller was from, NYC does not have a large population of Irish anymore for sure. I also dont know anyone named Patrick and I know a lot of people.

NYC has one of the largest Irish populations in the States.
OK, lets look at things another way, as I understand for a believer it is hard to see things from my perspective, so how about we look at it like this. Thomas John if really psychic, would be the worlds first psychic. His abilities would single handedly change science for ever, I am talking about EVERY scientist in the world being wrong. Every University would need to change lessons, print new text books. We are talking about the biggest paradigm shift in the history of the world.
People like Stephen Hawkins, one of the worlds most intelligent men, well he's wrong, his life work is a waste, its all wrong.
Everything we know about everything needs to be rewritten, it would welcome a new age like never before, it would be excitement unmatched for scientists the world over. Everything changes, nothing is unaffected.
Yet with all that said, Thomas John is giving readings on a small radio show.
Can you see why it is unlikely?
There are a million ways he could be conning people.
There are no controls, nothing to stop him cheating. Nothing at all. He offers to take no credible scientific tests.
Look at things from a realistic world viewpoint.
If I had the powers that mediums claim, I would be prepared to literally kill myself to prove it. To prove it is so massive, that my whole life is meaningless in comparison to that discovery.
But Thomas John does small shows for 50 people in a back room.
History has catagorically shown us that 100% of mediums fail 100% of the time when the chance to cheat is removed. No anomalies, no exceptions, 100% failure rate in CREDIBLE tests.
Yet Thomas John potentially the worlds first real medium, he does phone readings for grieving grannies.
So perhaps when understanding his methods is a bit too hard for someone, instead look at the motivations of the person.
What kind of selfish bastard instead of changing the world for the better, just does s*itty readings on a radio show, full of questions and vague guesses?
IF Thomas John is 100% real, then he is possibly the WORST and most selfish human being in history.
This is akin to Alexander Fleming finding Penicillin, and keeping it to himself, and only helping the odd person here and there for $50 a pop.
The only difference between Alexander Fleming and Thomas John, is that Thomas John's claims are 100 times more incredible, more world changing. But he just gives s*itty readings to a young mother who lost her child to cancer and charges her $100
So again, THINK of it in that sense. If he is real, he is one sick selfish son of a bitch, for not even trying to prove it is real and changing the world.
I never said I was a believer though I'd like to be! I just don't know how he does it, for me it just can't be explained away so easily.
I agree with many of your points though I haven't asked or heard the opinions of EVERY scientist in the world.
Hi Debbie nice to meet you. Why on earth would you want to believe? Surely wanting to know is much better. Being skeptical is awesome and has so many more advantages including the ability to change your mind without embarrassment when new and compelling scientific evidence presents itself. Wishing you could cloak yourself in a blanket of self deception that can render you vulnerable to all types of con artist and woo is to me like wanting to exchange a large bag of gold sovereigns for a large bag of dog poo. I wouldn't swap my rationality and skepticism for anything no matter how tempting, its a valuable gift and a laudable trait.
Nice to meet you too! I get what you're saying as I am a skeptic too. Let me rephrase by saying I'd love for this to be true. I think most people would, especially those of us who've lost a loved one. That doesnt mean all common sense flies out the window at least not for me. I just try and keep an open mind. I've watched many mediums and also have done a lot of reading on the 'tricks' they use but sometimes like in this person thomas johns case, I just can't see how it's done unless the entire radio show is set up with callers on a weekly basis. Mr. Donnis explanation doesn't cut it for me, And I truly mean no offense as I do appreciate what he does and know he has good intentions by keeping people from being conned. It's also not that I believe thomas john is the real deal I just trying to figure out how he does it and if you would listen to a few of his shows you would too.

Do you know how David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear? Or how Dynamo walked on water? There are many tricks that to the novice are hard to work out.
A great card magician will know 10 different methods to do the exact same trick, so just when you think you got it, they do it a different way. The same goes with mediums, just because you dont know how they do it, or even understand the methods, doesn't make it real.
A bad ass who will beat you like he's using the fists of god.

But the truth is I dont know which method he used as I am not there to physically see. I could listen to ten of his readings and instantly tell you exactly how 9 are done, but the 10th, I might need to physically be there to see his technique.
Maybe he mixes hot and cold reading, maybe like I originally stated his producer gets the main info in the pre-interview off air, and simply passes them to Thomas John, that would be the easiest way to get the highest chance of hits, no stooges needed, just 3 people in on the trick. Get 4 or 5 pieces of solid info from the pre-interview, pad the rest out with cold reading, and leading the caller, and job done.
And even then if the pre-interview option is the most obvious, he may still not be using that method, he may legit cold read 9 people and the 10th is a stooge, a plant.
Maybe he sees his own facebook page whereby he tells people to ring in to his show, he does a bit of research on people saying they want to ring in, and when he hears that name, he has the info ready to use.
Like i said so many methods he could use, but none of them need psychic powers.
And no offence taken, i prefer people to question not only me, but everything, that is true skepticism.

My money is on Jons suggestion of some sort of collusion with the medium, producers and host of the radio station,an "accurate medium" is a winner for all of them. The psychic and the radio host start to become more well known as word spreads of this amazingly accurate medium and more and more people tune in which is good for both their careers and producers love good ratings because it attracts advertising. Obviously I don't know anything for sure but its not beyond the realms of possibility, so my bets on collusion, prestige and money are incredibly powerful incentives.

Ahh got what you mean now, I'm glad you are skeptical and yes most people would love for it to be true I was the same when I lost my dad a couple of years ago but then I started to think about what the implication of life after death truly means, eternity is an incredibly long time, imagine you could do everything there was to do and beyond that there would be nothing but endless meaningless existence, I cannot imagine a worse torture.

That is hell. What if Hell is the afterlife, and heaven is just death,

Interesting concept However as an atheist I don't believe in hell, its an artificial man made construct, an effective control mechanism and any god who would create an eternal torture chamber and infinite punishment for what must necessarily be finite crimes is a sadistic monster and not worthy of my allegiance.

Oh I agree, I dont believe either, but it is interesting. Atheists when we die, thats it, cease to exist. But ALL religious people who believe in an afterlife, are cursed to live forever floating about and throwing things OFF CAMERA on Most Haunted

When making a radio show, call ins are part of the show, you need to make sure that the show performs, so of course you will use fake callers as one of the methods depending on the nature of your show
