well for one energy keeps you alive and your mind active, and then there are those that say energy never dies regarding soul talk that is;) Wendy why do you walk into such blatantly laid sceptic traps. Jesus Christ woman you should have seen this a mile off. You do not understand what the word energy actually means. ALL energy can be scientifically measured, when psychics talk about energy, they ALWAYS end up making a fool of themselves. Trust me Wendy, listen and learn to people on here, and you wont fall into the traps.

Admin...a bit of a sweeping statment to say that all energy can be measured, eh? Actually, its not. All known energy can be measured. As soon as we discover an energy we can evidence it via measuring with specifically designed instruments for accuracy. Have you seen the main page? Erm........... The admin and cerridwen are friends you know? Jon isnt a scientist, sceptics are not automatically scientists. Logical fallacy im afraid. Argumentum ad antiquitatum to be precise. An appeal to tradition eg: we have been doing this for thousands of years, therefore it MUST be real and valid. Now replace the word "accupuncture" with "murder" or something we have also been doing for thousands of years. Not quite as palatable is it? I am afraid the word quantum, (unless referring to quantum mechanics/physics etc) is an "autowoo" lable. Woos have latched onto the word as a "prove all" word. Not many people understand quantum mechanics, and so they hope that the person they are debating/arguing with also will not. We fully understand what psychics claim they are able to do, and likewise with "healing energy work". You are right, it is ignorant and dangerous. Especially if you forgo regular medicine for the idiocy that is "healing energy manipulation". It is however, all woo. There is no evidence it works except for anecdotes. If it did work, we would know about it, and use it everyday. What is the difference between your "different sensibilities" and anybodys "imagination"? I would posit the results are exactly the same.

Faewitch, the fact that you can ask "why should there be only the scientific definition of energy?" is a dead giveaway that you don't really understand what "energy" really is. You really need to educate yourself a little more before you start throwing the word "quantum" about.
By the way, I think you'll find that acupuncture as it is practiced today owes very little to Traditional Chinese Medicine and a great deal to post-revolutionary China's urgent need to produce "barefoot doctors" who could be trained cheaply and quickly. Even the use of very fine needles dates back no further than the seventeenth century. Acupuncture didn't get off the ground in the west until 1971, when garbled reports that an American journalist's appendix had been removed under acupuncture anaesthesia in Beijing caused an upsurge in interest. There's a fascinating chapter about this in Rose Shapiro's "Suckers: How Alternative Medicine Makes Fools of Us All". According to Shapiro,
It's also worth pointing out that since 1949 the number of TCM doctors in China has halved, and that a recent survey indicates that 72% of people in China would prefer to use Western medicine rather than TCM.
