I love the Bibles in hotel rooms (my Dad is a Gideon - one of the well-meaning misguided men who put bibles in hotel rooms and give them out at schools - I really wish they wouldn't) because when there's nothing on the telly, you can sit back, get out your bible and have a really good laugh. Leviticus never fails to amuse. If you've never read it; do yourself a favour. It's a hoot.

I didn't know that littleclaire and it does raise the question "why". If people want to read the bible to the point where they'd nick it then it suggests a real interest and belief in religion..which kind of goes against the fact they have just stolen ! Or, are people stealing them anti-religion and getting rid of them to make sure others don't get to read them ? Or maybe it's that some Bibles are so small they fit easily under ones jumper..

Having said that, the Bible I got from a godparent when I was christened is one of my most treasured possessions. The scent of the pages takes me straight back to childhood.

I do, even as an atheist I have read it so that I can see what other peoples beliefs are based on.

I have no bible in my house. If I do want to read any passages, I just go to the Skeptics Annotated Bible website and read it there.
