A British comedians attack on Islam posted on YouTube has caused outrage in Berkley California. Council Leaders condemned Pat Condell’s monologue as “insulting, degenerating(?) and racist.
Condell was quoted in a Time Out London Interview as saying ‘It seems to me that fundamentalist Christians, jihadist Muslims and settlement-building Jews are causing more than their share of trouble in the world. World events are being driven by people with apocalyptic delusions, while here in Britain a paralysing liberal guilt allows religious bigots to use intimidation and violence to stamp out free speech. If you can’t get laughs out of all that, you can’t get them out of anything.’
In his five minute video called “The trouble with Islam” he describes Muslim men who oppress women as “Primitive pigs whose only achievement in life is to be born with a penis in one hand and the Koran in the other.”
Since posting his video Pat Condell has received death threats.
What do you think of his comments?

Brave bloke for saying what a great majority of ordinary people of all faiths have been thinking about saying for a long time but daren't for fear of being branded a racist. Don't necessariliy agree with everything the guy says as I've only watched a couple of clips but what I've seen so far seemed fine to me.

I'm glad that more and more people are actually speaking out about this, because as much as the PC brigade want to sweep up such comments under the carpet and label anyone who questions religious faith as "intolerant" or "racist" (how can saying that Islamic fundamentalism is wrong be "racist" anyway? Muslims aren't all of the same race!!!), aspects of Islam are a problem.
It shows exactly how "good" a religion Islam is when people like Condell, Wafa Sultan, etc... speak out about it and then receive death threats. There's a very good chance too that those death threats don't come from what you would call "fundamentalist Islamic" sources.
I think the announcement of Salman Rushdie's knighthood last week would have been a perfect time to anonymously poll the Islamic communities in Britain to see what they think of the fatwa against him. I suspect that a significant proportion of them would have been in favour of it.

Pat Condell claims that the death threats he has received have come from Saudi Arabia, Syria and Tower Hamlets!!

It's hardly surprising that criticising Islam is not high on the govt agenda..this would mean criticising oppressive Islamic regimes like Saudi...and we just can't do that..who would we sell all our arms too?

wow, well what can i say. not a lot i dont think, i think hes said enough for everyone..lol...after viewing all of the clips i personaly think that hes said enough for everyone realy..lol..i may not aggree with all that hes said but at least hes clearly understandable with no possible maybes etc..certainly says what hes thinking, and in a so called free country hes allowed to do just that, so long as hes not offending anyone else, and seeing as how hes still making the videos i imagine that his right of freedomn of speech is still intact..lol

I never had a problem with islam, I still dont. I do however have a problem with the more radical elements of it, and other religions including christianity.

I love listening to Pat Condell, he is not afraid to speak out on what he believes and why should he? There was a time when free speech meant exactly that! It's ok for religious zealots to speak out about their beliefs and they are allowed their right of freedom of speech, but anyone who speaks out against a belief in religious ideals is targeted.
I'm not an atheist but I like to hear arguments from all sides before I decide, I also do not believe in any so called written word of god. But I do believe in an order of some kind that we originate from and this has come from listening to different views on the origins of life. I would hope I could speak of this belief freely but I'm beginning to see our freedom is fading.

As an ex Tower Hamlets resident, I'm not surprised in the slightest that some of the death threats came from there. I am surprised that Newham wasn't also named as they are even more radical there. I could tell you first-hand some of the things that go on there. Things I have seen myself, not second or third hand gossip. My best friend on this mad world is a British born Muslim, her children call me Auntie and my children call her the same, the kids grew up together. (Bearing in mind now that I'm a Pagan and my children are High Church Anglican Christians). We've never had a problem between us but there have been two definate occasions when she and her husband had to physically defend me and my children from having half bricks thrown at us. Our crimes? My 11 year old (at that time) daughter was wearing a crop top and shorts on a hot summer day to go to the shops with two of my friends daughters. They were called whores and prostitutes by very muslim males (I won't grant them the title of men) aged between 15 and 80 who picked up the nearest lumps of brick and stones and started throwing them at these girls. Another time I was pushing my 8 week old nephew in his pram through the estate back to my house as I was minding him for his mum. It was known that I was divorced from my husband and I was getting 'looks' from the littlle huddles of muttering males standing around. A stone hit the pram and hit me and I quite frankly had to run to my mates house for cover to the shouts of "Mother of a Bastard" and "Dirty Whore" (Which is a bit rich as I hadn't even held hands with anyone for five years after my divorce). Both incidents were reported to the police. NOTHING was done. NO-ONE was questioned. My friend phoned them to offer to give a statement of what she'd witnessed. They didn't bother. Went to Tower Hamlets council with names and addresses of some of these idiots and was told I needed a crime number for them to do anything and that they weren't geared up for this type of thing. I said, "So you're not geared up for racist attacks then?" And was told....."Oh yes! Or course we are! It's just that whites don't get attacked in our experience." NOTHING was done
Sorry gone off topic there. It drives me mad that fringe groups and the loudest nutters get listened too while the rest of the population have to change who and what they are to accommodate these Fascists

I never had a problem with islam, I still dont. I do however have a problem with the more radical elements of it, and other religions including christianity. Exactly! It has little to with Islam and everything to do with fundamentalism. And the problem is that the fundamentalists are causing a backlash which then forces people to become defensive first and then aggressive, therefore breeding more fundamentalism. I hate the way this is all going. It's becoming more and more divisive and everyone is blaming everyone else.

Another example... "The Last Temptation of Christ". Doesn't portray Christ too well. Peaceful cinema pickets by Christians. "The Satanic Verses". Calls for Rushdie's head. Over a BOOK! -- Ban Islam now I say. Not at all controversial Perhaps we should just ban all religion and be done with it. As for the peaceful Christians.....I think hundreds of years worth of historical evidence suggests this hasn't always been the case

As for the peaceful Christians.....I think hundreds of years worth of historical evidence suggests this hasn't always been the case The question is whether we can afford to wait 700 years for the fundamentalists of Islam to catch up with their methods. We have much more destructive technology now than when the Christian fundamentalists used to roam the world "converting" people.

I'm not condoning fundamentalists. But violence in the name of God is nothing new. So should we get rid of religion altogether? If we could wave a magic wand and have a world without religion would that make the world a better place?

You cant ban Islam, and nor should anyone want to, it is rather a stupid thing to say to be honest.
Islam is a peaceful religion, the problem is with the fundamentalists, these people use the religion as an excuse for their crimes.
terrorist groups have been doing that for hundreds of years.
Although I do saythat if you banned ALL religion people would still find different reasons to fight.
There is an episode of southpark (i think) where they go to the future and various groups are fighting over the exact wording of something Dawkins had said.

I saw the vid ages ago and frankly it disturbed me as much as some of the rubbish spouted by the extremists.
Weird and frightening as it is I actually agree with Jon on this one.

I agree with Jon too.
People will always find something to fight about.
My children have been rather confused by religion. I simply tell them the most important thing is to be good and kind.
