just got eps 1 & 2 of this show: Claims to be a reality show, following a group of students (from Penn State Paranormal Research Society) doing the ghost hunting thing. www.aetv.com/paranormal-state/haven't had a chance to look at it yet. hmm skimming through episode 2, they call in a medium, and Lorraine Warren (described as one of the worlds only TRUE demonologists), and Tony Spera (listed as a demonologist). ... oh they have periodic startrek style "Directors Log" voice overs.

Ive seen the clip for it on the A&E website, it looked like the ultimate bulls*it paranormal based programe I have ever had the misfortune to witness. It was so ridiculous I just felt like punching my monitor.
I expect it will be very popular, and woo sites will quote extensively from the series, in lieu of factual information. I can predict it will be incredibly bad TV with zero scientific data to support its findings.

I just watched episode one, cant get episode 2 yet. I would just like to say I was fucking disgusted. It was the worst type of s*ite I have ever seen, ever. Trust me Ive seen a lot this far exceeded the levels I am used to. It was insulting and ridiculous and I swear these people should be prosecuted.

Penn State had it's date with fame by hosting a couple of paranormal conferences that drew lots of people. Ghost groupies mostly who are stupid enough to pay the kind of prices they were asking to attend. Jason and Grant were headliners so there ya go.
I'm surprised actually that the show made it to A&E. Why? There must be some other kind of programming that's interesting besides this reality TV show not so paranormal bull.

O.K. The demon made me do it. I watched the A&E "on demand" stuff about this show. Basically the founder of the group summed everything up when he said...no one wants to take me seriously because I'm 24. Why yes, yes young man no one is about to take you seriously. And here's why... 5 member's profiles are available to view on demand and this group isn't exactly breaking down the stereotypes. One is a theatre arts major who is sensitive about being called a psychic. (pun intended, and no I won't bother with the bit about the psychic who's a theatre arts major. You all can imagine that one yourselves) Another is a wanna be musician who plays base in her own band and is a video arts major. Another member is the "weird one" who is the pagan. Of course we can't forget the nerdy "tech guy" who wears cool sunglasses. Then there's the founder of the group who admits his childhood paranormal moment that got him into all of this was a vision of a demonic troll with a big grin. Meanwhile things got a bit hokey during the few minutes of the actual TV show that I watched. Lorraine Warren and the Catholic Church had to be called in. Of course we never actually see the Catholic priest coming to the rescue but hear reports about how, since the priest blessed the house, all is well. Oh and by the way, what the church really did was provide a counselor for a family who desperately needed some help. Of course the home owner feels much better now since her home has been "blessed". What she really got was the mental health professional help her and her family needed. Nothing paranormal about it. As a paranormal investigation show, this one hits new lows. Trotting out Lorraine Warren was like putting show sheen on your show pony. Very shiny, but what's the point? Oh wait, she's a "name" in the paranormal field. That's it. Silly me. Guess Jason and Grant weren't available for this one. Everyone in the group is indeed too young to be believable. The tech guy is a finance major. Now is it just me or shouldn't someone with a major like that be getting a resume ready that doesn't include "ghosthunter" as an extracurricular activity. I'm talking pimples and braces on their teeth too young. It feels like you're watching a high school play about ghost groupies, set in a university where the plot involves a line about the Catholic Church supposedly contacting this group for help and a demon who's name can't be spoken out loud. It's time for this group of young people to get off their parent's credit cards, graduate, and get some real life experience. Drop the sappy...a demon is following me...crap and give us all a break. I don't believe you. Advice for the soon to be graduates - Take a cue from the disaster that became "Most Haunted". Just say your show is a mock drama and take your 15 minutes of fame with a grain of salt. Or better yet, a grain of salt on a wedge of lime right before a tequila shooter. That's sure as hell what I'm gonna need to sit through another episode of this junk.

I've seen both shows last night and there was nothing new under the sun there. As soon as they start talking about Demons and use God's name right after that, I get sick and bored right away.

Oh dear, watched the first 2 episodes yesterday. Reminded me of ghost Hunters but without any of the science, common sense or anything.
Just a bunch of truly deluded idiots pretending they have knowledge.

What influential people?
One of my co-workers asked me if I had seen this show. She knows about my paranormal interests. I said it was complete crap, a bunch of young ego's hoping to be noticed by mainstream media so they can get jobs. Actors? Directors? Writers? Whatever.
My co-worker got a blank stare and said..."but did you see the one with the little boy? That was scary." So there ya go, the show is nothing but more crappy reality TV for the brainless drones who like to be scared but have no clue.

Get a load of this, one of the stupidest and funniest things I have seen on T.V. This is from episode 3 of Paranormal State in which their "3rd generation Pagan" does some sort of ritual to keep those pesky demons away. This show is awful, now America has its own Most Haunted, but far worse.

I watched it as fiction... I mean, what's with this story arc about the demon chasing him? And why not say its name (which I suspect is something like Belial - the demon of lies and guilt - message, anybody? lol )?

You mean the part where the socially confused and religiouslly befuddled teenager is invoking the names of christian angels for her psuedo pagan ritual in that stupid droney incantation voice? ;D She was actually performing the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. And she did it wrong. Just google LBRP and you'll find tons of info on it. I find this show horribly irritating. Demons? Seriously? They're not "Ghost hunters", they're crazy people thinking demons are following them. I mean, c'mon. I had a massive "discussion" that ended with lovely Christian people calling me horrible names, on FB about Paranormal State (one of the larger groups on there about this show). I seriously doubt the Catholic Church is calling in a 24 year old kid to help with exorcisms (particularly since there are less than 10 official exorcists in North America, and also that the Church mostly provides counseling for those who believe they are possessed, and that seems to work just fine). I hate this show with a passion.
