She is incapable of debating hellyp, she is more likely to troll than debate, as is evidenced by her previous posts. Shame really, this is exactly why sceptics usually hold believers in such low esteem. They bring nothing to the table, except childishness.
I'm always disappointed by the failure to directly answer questions. I'm too bloody optimistic, that's my problem.

Ahhh but if she did go into detail about long distance thingy you wouldn't be able to comprehend it as its so amazingly super... allegedly. I believe that those who believe are either making money out of it or don't want to accept that it is more than likely a load of rubbish because it would be admitting that they've let themselves be drawn into something that has no basis in reality. Something that can not be proved. All a placebo. It may make someone feel better but its not through some cosmic channelling which is no doubt what its supposed to be.

I am disappointed too, i would appreciate it if you did explain how it works - im not here to insult or criticise anybody cerridwen, but if you can explain, please do - its not fair too say we are all out of our depth.
"Nanny Ogg looked under her bed in case there was a man there. Well, you never knew your luck." — Terry Pratchett (Lords and Ladies)
this is a bit harsh, I will not explain to you as you are too childish to comprehend anything that is out of your depth!!!
Harsh? Its simply reality. If you have information to the contrary then please inform us of your discovery. If you don't, then you are simply basing your response on your pre existing belief in distance healing. To be honest I don't think you even can explain, if you could you would have done so to "show up a skeptic". I think you'll find there is not much "out of my depth", most of the beliefs the woos hold, are indeed seemingly quite shallow.
Well as in a other thread i spoke about Reiki. I have had it done to myself and have done Reiki 1.. I'm no expert but having had both experiences i can speak on my own evidence and personal experience.
Firstly cerridwen, you don't have to be religious or believe in Reiki to work... its not a spiritual thing or the healing hand from god and personally your attitude for debate does nothing to educate your point or certainly help with a debate about this subject. I don't mean to be disrespectful.
Distance Reiki... well unless you do Reiki2 and above your not shown how to do it, so as yet i haven't. The feed back from people who have had it, has been positive. Is that down to self believing or actual Reiki.... well tbh i think a lot of these people just believed it made them better. To qualify my statement of why i believed that, well most of those people believed i could do Psychic readings very acutrally... well i assure you i cant ! But their were people who did have a positive effect ( people who don't believe in mediums etc ), but the effect is pain relief not cure lets make that clear.
How it works, no idea... when i do my level 2, i will then be able to see for myself.
Bob, as you said earlier, don't make claims you cant back up.. well i put this to you. Why doesn't someone from here do a Reiki 1 course. It takes one day from the person who trained me ( although many claim it takes many days etc all woo tbh ) Then you can actually have a first hand experience.
Remember along time back, Aurthur C Clark reports... about all the paranormal. All but one subject he said he couldn't discount. That one was fire walking, why? he saw it first hand then did it himself. Why it worked, was it energy or mind over matter, He couldn't conclude, but it worked.
I say this because Reiki is something that you can say did or didn't prove to have an effect or you or someone you do it to.You can actually feel someones injury for example. I don't believe it can cure cancer or medical conditions, but it can certainly help with pain and can help with healing.. Ive seen that first hand. I didn't until i did it..
To point out, acupuncture was long joked at, but its now being used by the NHS for pain relief instead of medication.
Why not be a C Clark and try doing a Reiki course??

I totally agree with almost everything in this post. Fantastic response, however there are a few things I would like to address. Arthur didnt understand the physics behind the heat transfer of firewalking, we know know the exact method, and its limitations. It is no longer a mystery and is certainly not "unexplained".
I do not believe that accupuncture has any efficacy execpt that of placebo, if the NHS are using it that does not make it valid. It is simply an argument to authority. "Authority" is not infalliable, and the NHS also had Homeopathic Hospitals too at one point until they cut funding.
Its strange you should mention the Reiki course. I have asked the mother in law to train me (shes a lvl 3 "grandmaster" ) Currently she is refusing to do so, because she believes I will use this information to discredit her belief. I assured her I simply needed to practise it to have a believers perspective (oh the lengths I go to to be fair and impartial eh? ) I believe intime she will be convinced and I will be a Reiki "grandmaster" too. Then I will be able to emphatically state it is bulls*it because of my "credentials". Ps, have a karma
@apollo - good post like Bob said, I just want to mention what I think is going on for your patients, the placebo effect. The placebo effect is an amazing thing and has shown to work well with pain. This article is a good read on the placebo effect and the studies done on it.

Hi Bob, thanks for that..
So how do they do the fire walking, always wanted to know?
Yep agreed about the NHS and acupunture, although again many will argue that it does work
Well if your mother inlaw does teach you, well i guess then if would be first hand knowlage... but many "masters" say they have a feeling for who is right or wrong to teach ( dont ask me what it is or why they say it?? ) but would intresting if you do.. Good luck with it, and remeber, never upset the mother inlaw ;D

Thanks Beam.. Intresting read and im sure that is certainly the case in some.. certainly for thoses who see it as a massage, i guess relaxing with music etc it helps them.
But i would certainly say in cases their is more happening..ie you can feel the energy in your body, certainly i did on a sports injury and infact it was painfull ( can be typical ) and i had to stop it for a few seconds to catch my breath.
If and when Bob gets a chance then it would be intresting to get his few as naturaly he will very honest and im sure a few things will shock him lol.
Also i dont do treatments now, never charged, it was somthing i did to see well if it was really ( i didnt belive it was tbh ) and really for personal reasons.
So how do they do the fire walking, always wanted to know?
Well I am not Bob, but I can answer this. It has to do with the fact that coal has low thermal capacity and conductivity. Thus it takes awhile before the coal will actually heat up your feet enough to injure them. Anyone can walk a short distance over "fire".

Thats ok, a very intresting read, certainly logical... but he only applied Physics to it. Shame he actually didnt light some coal up and then touch it?
If this is true, im gutted, always thought it was really clever how they did it.. Just goes to show a little thought can explain the woo..
Just goes to show a little thought can explain the woo..
Exactly, this why I am a skeptic, and try to show others. It just takes a little rational thinking and a little bit of study and anyone can see the truth if they are willing to see.

Have some karma for this great statement.
Many thanks... i should have copy righted it lol..... Perfect for this site lol

Many will argue that god would like them to strap a bomb on their chest and walk into a childrens hospital. Doesnt make it correct though.

What is it you would like my opinion on? How placebo works? or why you think you can sometimes feel energy? I will try my best to provide you with a suitable answer mate.

Hi Mate, well the energy... When i " scanned " somone i could feel he had in the past broke a bone ( he didnt tell me before ) Now i found this remarkable.
Also, when i had treatment on me, i have also had a broken bone ( again he didnt know this ) and when he touched my head the pain was shocking ( like fire where i broke it ), after about 10 seconds the pain went... After the treatment my wrist was back to normal. As i have said before Reiki dosnt cure.. and within a few months it was back to normal. But the inital pain was very intresting. More so as i have said, i really wasnt a beliver in this and no idea what to expect. This was a real feeling but.
If you can explain any of that, that would be really intresting as yet for myself i never have.

Now that was worth watching......
I like the analogy of " baking a cake " makes it very simple to understand. But isnt it typical of the " belivers" attiutde.. He is all pumped up telling people its all to do with state of mind ( and that he charges a fair amount i guess !! ) of to why they can do it, although the scientist did it without all the BS claping ..

Hi Mate, well the energy...
*Leaps out from behind a tree*
Hi, apollo, hope you don't mind me butting in. 'Energy' is one of those words which is often used by those aboard the woo-woo train on their way to Kook Central, but they rarely explain what they mean by it. This is very probably because a)they don't know, and b)a certain amount of mysticism adds to the appeal.
I'm in no way attacking you here, by the way. You don't sound like you're sitting in First Class or Standard, or even wedged in that bit by the stinky overflowing loo, trying not to fall over every time that corrugated rubber bit expands to let the train go round a corner. I don't even think you've purchased your ticket. Anyway, enough of the crappy train analogy...
When i " scanned " somone i could feel he had in the past broke a bone ( he didnt tell me before ) Now i found this remarkable.
It's always difficult to offer alternative explanations for things if you weren't there to witness what actually happened. And again I'm not criticising you here. I'm not saying you've left something out deliberately or that you are unreliable. It's just that any number of tiny things could have occurred (for example you may have (even subconsciously) noticed that the person you scanned 'favoured' whichever part of himself he had broken).
But anyway, I'd like to ask you a couple of things. What was the sensation which you experienced at that point that you 'felt' he had broken a bone? Who was the person you scanned? Might they have had a reason to say they had had a broken bone when they hadn't?
Also, when i had treatment on me, i have also had a broken bone ( again he didnt know this ) and when he touched my head the pain was shocking ( like fire where i broke it ),
He didn't know you had broken a bone, but you did. When I was a kid being mildly bullied at secondary school, I would try to avoid going. I would complain of a stomach ache. Now I hated lying. But I soon discovered that if I concentrated hard enough, I could actually make my stomach hurt. Or my head. So in the end, I wasn't lying at all. I really did have stomach ache. Again, it's totally impossible to say 'this is what happened', but it's worth considering if you want to cover all bases in order to find out what really went on.
after about 10 seconds the pain went...
Was that directly after he had removed his hands from over the area?
After the treatment my wrist was back to normal. As i have said before Reiki dosnt cure.. and within a few months it was back to normal.
Do you mean that after the treatment it was as it was before you broke it, and that after a few months it reverted to how it was after you broke it?
I'm a sceptic too, so I'm obviously going to shout 'Placebo effect!!' at you. Just another thing to ponder, which I'm sure you have already.
But the inital pain was very intresting. More so as i have said, i really wasnt a beliver in this and no idea what to expect. This was a real feeling but.
I've no doubt that it was a real feeling.
Anyway, that's just my £0.02, for what it's worth.
