BAD SPELL FOR MYSTIC
JUNK mail doesn't get much more creepy than this alarming message scrawled on the front of a letter:
"I am really worried about you. Please, get back to me as soon as you can... it's important."
This was on a posting from a shyster called Skye Alexander. Inside there was better news of promised lottery wins, yachts and shops mis-pricing items in your favour.
It could all be yours for £19.95 plus £4 postage - for that you got a booklet of "magickal revelations".
Unsurprisingly, one victim who duly paid up didn't win the lottery. And instead of being on the receiving end of "truly magical blessings" she is now being chased by debt collectors NCO for £95.80.
That's because the mailing has a misleading box that you can tick to receive more "Completely Risk FREE" booklets.
But these are not, however, cost free.
Skye Alexander uses a mailbox address in Guildford, Surrey, but is based in Massachusetts in the States.
We spoke to a woman in her call centre called Sue "I don't have a surname" who insisted that they don't send unsolicited mail.
But that's not what the American watchdog the Better Business Bureau says.
According to the BBB, Skye Alexander is the most complained about astrologer in the US. And our own Advertising Standards Authority recently ruled that her mailings were likely to distress and exploit victims.
As for her mystical powers, in 2005 Skye predicted that Oprah Winfrey would marry (she didn't), Madonna and Guy Ritchie would split up (they haven't) and the conflict in Iraq would be over by the end of the year (it wasn't).
