"That may indicate a lack of familiarity with that particular food, or "more seriously a reaction to a food associated with people from a particular ethnic or cultural community"
Sweet! What a load of utter BS.

I've got a story about how ridiculous this racism is getting. (May I add at the health to other children and frustration of parents).
Someone I know works in an infant/junior school nearby where we live. Our town is pretty rural and ethnic communities so far are minimal. While she was at work one day and watching the children in the playground a child fell down and hurt himself, he was either fully Asian or of mixed race. She ran over to help him up.
To her horror on checking him she found his hair was crawling with lice. Her description to me was they were like "ghurkas" crawling over each other, obviously the child was infested. She went into the school to report this to a teacher and was told they couldn't say anything to the parents because it would be racist. The child was allowed back into the classroom, rub heads with other children, etc, and nothing was done about it.
It took a few weeks for the child to be treated at home, in the meantime how many other children were infested because of the racism fear. What angers me most is the fact that the general public don't hear stories like this, I only knew through knowing someone who worked there. Turn the tables and it's a whole different ball game!

I sense you are having a bad day mue! I do get a tad frustrated when i read stories like these. A friend of mine told me a story about his local school which has a muslim child in his young daughters class. When he went to collect his daughter, he noticed the muslim child was playing by himself, while the others were playing in a group. When he asked the teacher why the muslim child had been separated from the others, the teacher told him that the child's parents had insisted that their child was not allowed to play with the 'white' children. WTF!!!! So in one instance, we have the nanny state bureaucrats telling us how racist we all are from nursery age and in the other instance we have children of ethnic minorities who are not even allowed to mix with 'whities' or perhaps other children of other ethnic minorities. It really pisses me off!!!!!! Another instance of blatant racism AGAINST white UK and US nationals. I was working at British Gas during the 9/11 attacks. When a 2 minute silence was held a few days later...certain members of a certain ethnic minority were cheering DURING that 2 minute silence. No action was taken against ANY of these people. And the government brings in their nanny state laws about how tolerant we have to be....yeah right. Funny thing is, I WAS Mr tolerant until that moment of cheering. Now I'm Mr Rant-o-matic! Oh crap.....done too much ranting.....your eyes have all blurred over haven't they? Sorry Amaris, yeah, a real bad day...BOOM

Why don't they bloody let kids be kids for christ sake! My son who is 8 refers to one of his best friends, who is Asian that he is brown and my daughter who is 4 has a lady at playgroup who is also Asian, she calls her the brown lady when she tells me about her, they both are only describing what they see, but they are defernately not racist!....
When children are young they just tell you how it is and what they see with their own eyes without the complicated issues this government inflict on us with being racist, health and safety, obesity, religion etc etc (all these barmy laws)...

none of you think maybe your making a bit of a circus out of this? I mean here's mue complaining about some steps to prevent racism, and then complaining about racism in schools......... I read nothing about a nanny state in the news article, they simply compress a 336 word document into a few paragraphs and you start complaining because their example is of using the word 'yuck'?

I read nothing about a nanny state in the news article, they simply compress a 336 word document into a few paragraphs and you start complaining because their example is of using the word 'yuck'? As I read mue's post I felt it he was comparing the two. The nursery school trying to prevent racism at a very young age but that children of ethnic minorities are allowed to be racist against others, his example being in the school playground. We are according to the government living in a multicultural society so why is it one rule for some and another for others. That was my understanding of this thread and that the "nanny state" point is in the nursery school scenario."racism noun 1 hatred, rivalry or bad feeling between races. 2 belief in the inherent superiority of a particular race or races over others, usually with the implication of a right to be dominant. 3 discriminatory treatment based on such a belief"

Sorry tomolac....My messy writing style does tend head off in unexpected tangents.....Fortunately Amaris has some how managed to trawl through my inane ramblings and decipher them. Not to worry though. Done all the ranting I'm gonna do, apologies if I've offended anyone as it wasn't my intention.

so your saying that because they have allowed racists acts like that in the past they have no right to try and take steps to prevent it in the present or future?

Of course not. But do you consider an infant, not liking a foreign food and showing his/her displeasure, for example, by saying yuck is a racist act? There's common sense and there's pathetic. Make your own mind up.

so your saying that because they have allowed racists acts like that in the past they have no right to try and take steps to prevent it in the present or future? I think it should be one rule for all, if you're going to take steps to prevent racism then it should apply to everyone whatever your skin colour or religious beliefs.

Until there is unlimited resources so every human can have all he (or she) wants there will be competition.
To compete for resources takes co-operation with others.
To co-operatre with others there needs to be something (race, religion, survival) in common,
Until the "something in common" is universal then racism, sexism, ageism and every other ism has to exist.
To believe or teach otherwise is ignorant.

Amaris, if you keep saying things like that, I gonna end up giving you Karma every time I log in. Wise words ogre. You're absolutely correct..... and much better at making your point than I am . Cullen, you're only racist if you don't like brummies, coz I think that's where curry comes from. ;D Even if it didn't, I don't think anyone should be called racist because of their taste in food.
