A reply I read from another member of this forum gave me the idea for this thread
Did any members here used to be fans of the Celebrity mediums, ie Derek Acorah, Tony Stockwell, Colin Fry, Gordon Smith etc and have now lost faith in them, if so tell us your stories of what changed your minds about their authenticity as genuine mediums.
Are there any members that used to be sceptics but have had your minds changed through an experience with a celeb medium or a medium of any kind for that matter.
I'd like to hear your stories....

I have heard so much evidence against Acorah and Sylvia Browne. I have also been a fan of John Edward and have found him to be very credible. However, I am beginning to suffer from a condition now that I will call "doubting credibility by proxy" and cannot honestly say I believe the way I used to.

Yep, I was a big fan of Acorah up until about 18mths ago. My turning point was the MH episode of Maes Artro and the pilot question he couldn't answer. After that I got a bit suspicious and then I came across this site and another similar site which really opened my eyes. The Kreed Kafer incident was just the icing on the cake like it was for many people I think. However I continued to watch MH and still carried on seeing him live a few times in the hope that I would be proved wrong........but I wasn't. I have to say that I do miss him on MH purely for the entertainment value, the possessions were hilarious and I sometimes watch the old episodes and the top 10 possessions for a laugh.

As a kid I believed in Uri Geller. When I found out he was a trickster it kind of turned me against anyone claiming paranormal powers. I still want to believe in it, but the standard of proof I require has gone WAY up !

I'm like you sceptic girl used to believe in him and then when a few things didn't start to add up, I started to delve and came across sites like this one which totally opened my eyes, then I discovered his grandfathers name wasn't even Acorah so if he lied about that what else had he been lying about, i've also heard other rumours about his days on Granada Breeze including giving his own family and friends readings over the phone and pretending they were strangers, it all leaves a very nasty taste indeed... Some people can't see the wood for the trees, but maybe one day they will be forced to re-evaluate their opinion about him. There's an old saying and a very true one you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time..

Yup, I heard about both these points. It certainly suggests lies and cheating...hummm.

Yes, I used to believe the usual suspects were real, then 4 years ago I started visiting certain forums, became good friends with someone who is involved in the "paranormal" industry but was extremely scathing about these so-called mediums, and gradually had my eyes opened... Then found BP with it's wealth of evidence and that was that. However, I do not apply this to all mediums - and for the record I have seen Derek, Colin and Tony live and thought each show was rubbish.

I have to apologise, my first post was in haste
I did very much believe in Uri Geller when i was young I would star at spoons trying to bend them, stop clocks, etc
Hook line and sinker.
The more i became interested in magic the more i realised Uri was amagician.
BUT I still love him as a performer, and could watch and listen to him all day

It's a great pity that some of Derek Acorahs adoring fans that come on this site don't read for themselves the wealth of information that Jon has obtained, it might open their eyes a bit instead of the blinkered view they have of the man, the evidence is there for all too see it's just a great pity some don't want to see it..

I was getting fed up of the posessions that derek kept having and I started to think they were just his chance to calll Yvette a bitch. Then there was a mention of BP on the most haunted forum and I came on here and all my worst fears were confirmed. I now realise that my sceticism of most paranormal claims was well placed. However for all the proof of fakery I still seek proof that life after death exists and still continue to believe that there is more than this short stay on this miniscule little rock circling a minor star in the arse end of the galaxy.

Agree with you two about the "more than this short stay." Re believing in mediums/psychics: I *knew* DA was a phony the first time I glimpsed him. I was very dubious of James Van Praagh, likewise from the first I saw of him. John Edward had me halfway believing in him for awhile, till I saw Penn & Teller report on his show. Char Margolis seemed believable, until I visited Randi's site and learned about cold reading and more about her. I would never have heard of Sylvia Browne if it hadn't been for this site, but she isn't even a good cold reader, to judge from the clips I've seen. They're all false prophets! > I don't know much about the other people you've mentioned, as they're not Americans, but I suspect my comment above fits them as well...
