Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunts - Episode 1 ReviewThe latest attempt to rip off Most Haunted was recently aired on BBC Northern Ireland. Titled Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunts, it promised to be something different. The BBC Blurb for the show is as follows: "Psychic Investigator Andy Matthews and his team visit Northern Ireland's most infamous haunted houses in search of their ghostly residents and the history behind them." So would this show be what so many have wanted for so long, that being a serious investigation into the paranormal, or would it be yet another piece of trash TV? Read More

We get the usual anecdotes from people who work in the place, which Andy Matthews laps up, like Cath Howe in a chocolate factory. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D That is seriously one of the most apt, hilarious reviews i have read in a long time! ;D x

Yes, I have to agree, it wasn't good. The NIPS folks were far too keen to attribute something as paranormal when it was nothing, the medium was very unconvincing (she knew about the stories, hell she asked the "spirit" if the butler did it, so she obviously knew what was what) but there was a saving grace when compared to MH, in my view at least. No women screaming at the slightest provocation! Hurray!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and Jon's description of the medium was spot on!

Just watched it, here are a few thoughts. Ghost Nest? Dowsing? Multispectrum phase sweeps? WTF? What "evidence" did they collect? Well it seems they were quite amazed at flickering shadows upon an open book. Seems a shame to point out it was illuminated by two candles with flickering flames. There was also some random beeps and whistles visible on the spectrum analyser, this is quite normal even in an empty room. There was much more amazment as they filmed a flying moth? orb. Dont worry though, they all looked at it and universally agreed it wasnt an insect so thats that sorted But it was emitting light I hear you cry, alas it was not, but rather reflecting light from the IR illuminator. I shall completely discount marions ramblings, as there is nothing to suggest she was correct about anything she said. She offered no evidence, just anecdotal predictable bulls*it.

I liked how they had their own terms for stuff instead of just using the MH terms.

Episode two was much better. We had snot and an English woman doing a norn irn accent. Fantastic, she warned us there may be vomiting but it wasn't to be...maybe next week. anyone (who wishes) can watch it through i-player of course. I urge you too. At least this medium has 'some' acting ability unlike a certain scouse gentleman.
