How many mediums are on this forum, who are you? I myself am a medium, but not very fond of spiritualist churches, whether that be me being young and not into the old ways of doing things, plus I see a lot ego within these churches which is very sad. I see and talk to spirit people, and convey their messages to their loved ones that they wish to speak to that are still here.
I've noticed here that certain 'mediums' cause trouble purely because their beliefs and opinions have been disagreed by skeptics. I feel everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions. I hope one day proof of survival is given to purely show that there is life after physical death. In my work, I never intend on forcing my beliefs on other people, what right do I have to do so?? - not to mention convert people - I don't believe spiritualism should be about converting people, only to give proof of what it stands for.
I'm sure this isn't new to you all either, I'm a skeptical medium, I question a lot of things, I support this site in what it does - to discover evidence of proof relating to mediums in their work. I've met many mediums in my work that appear to be damn right cold readers which angers me to the core, I know in my work one day I'll be lending a helping hand in putting a stop to fakes/fruadulent mediums - they disgust me, how can they sleep at night knowing they're conning people into believing they've made contact with their departed loved ones.
Television shows like Most Haunted haven't helped matters, they've only disgraced the work of what true mediums do. Anyway, why on would you need to be in the dark to see or hear something? When I give readings, I don't ask for the bleeding lights to be turned off and suddenly scream at a drop of a hat! LOL! I hope people here will only listen to what I have to say, and know that I only intend on supporting my beliefs and views; I will never convert people, as a working medium I only have the intention of delivering proof of survival after phsycical death.
I hope this thread will become more interesting than just my post LOL Thanks for reading, take care.
Can I just ask you how you contact people in the spirit world, and how they talk to you? In pictures? With their voices? Do you see them? How do you know that what you've got is actually the spirit you want to contact and not something else? I hope you don't mind all these questions.

I mostly get things from spirit shown to me via my mind, mental pictures - they are clearer than your own mind's thoughts and pictures, and you often can't remember them once they've gone which also indicates, to me, that it was spirit. And sometimes I see spirit as clear day like I see anyone else, when they speak, I don't see their mouths move, it is weird, but I hear their voices in my mind.
As for knowing what I get is actually is Spirit, is made pretty clear to me via their own energies coming in close to me and via the ways I stated above. I hope I managed to give you the answers that help you get some understanding of how mediumship works...etc.

I don't want to be rude here but...
How do you know that what you are experiencing isn't simply a form of neurological abnormality such as a form of epilepsy or schizophrenia for example?
Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Because it is real what I experience, I'm fully aware of what it is I get from Spirit, I don't feel like I'm insane, or abnormal; it's second nature to me in my life. I hope that answers your question
I've recently been to the doctors to have check up on my heart, as I've had two palpitations, mediums tell me it is a big heart chakra opening up, but I wanted an expert opinion first, my G.P. feels there's nothing wrong but will be keeping a watch on it for awhile. I don't feel there is anything wrong myself, but still it would be very foolish and stupid to not get checked out by the doctors, even if it is just for peace of mind.
please don't think I mean to make fun of your ability but having just read your reply I feel I must comment that people suffering from paranoid delusions, Scizophrenia or even hallucinations from drugs, genuinely also believe they are not ill and it feels very, very real to them. My friend's Uncle spent five years cooking bacon sandwiches for a BT repair man who didn't exist but popped in for breakfast every Thursday! To him that was perfectly normal.
My mediumship is in no way in comparison to those who see things while on drugs. I don't make them tea or anything, they come and go as they please, all very friendly, although there is the occasional one that has a bit of an attitude problem lol, only because they haven't learn't to move on from how they passed from this world to the next. Going back to drugs, I can't speak for other mediums, but, whenever I've been on medicine for a chest infection....etc I see NOTHINNG, hear NOTHING - until I'm well again - the spirit world leave me well alone when I'm unwell, but I am still able to sense them when they are around but they are never as close.
I may also add that the schizophrenia comment is often cited. Usually be people with no real experience of the condition nor understanding. I spent several years working in a secure ward for offenders with mental health problems and have observed and received training on the care of such people. On the surface they can appear similar to some mediumship but in fact there are many major differences. The main one is the lack of " voices" advocating harm to the sufferer or to others.
asif, when did you first have this experience, and what did you think it was? Did you talk to anyone about it? If so, who?

As a young child I saw spirit and then at the age of 5 I saw nothing for a few years until spirit starting to re-appear and that was when for the first time I realised and thought "Hang on a minute, this isn't right what I'm seeing!" so I spoke to my family and they all believed in what I was seeing were spirit people, and then I got drawn to a medium at a local spiritualist church when I first attended a clairvoyant evening, he immediately spotted me and told me exactly how spirit have "returned" in order for me to work up on rostrum/platform. So that's how I first realised that what I was seeing was spirit.
For people who don't believe in life after physical death, I always ask this: If there's no life after death, then how can there be nothing?
Could this medium have just been telling you what you want to hear?
There are mediums who discover cold-reading by accident and realise that this is what they are doing. They just naturally did it. Have you read anything on coldreading (I reccomend Ian Rowland's book) to see if you might fall under this category?
The fact that your parents were so keen to believe you have these gifts may have started a belief within yourself that you were indeed "gifted."
However, could this just be self-deception?
The spirits you see too. I could think of any human form, explain what they look like, and be right. Or of course get a "no" from whoever they are here to see. Do you get both yes and no's from the people you are helping, as i could without me having any mediumistic gifts, or are you spot on 100%?
I hope this doesnt sound like Im grilling you, I just want to understand more and settle any doubts I have about true clairvoyant abilities.
For people who don't believe in life after physical death, I always ask this: If there's no life after death, then how can there be nothing?
Quite easily, for all we know. It's human nature to look for reasons or purpose in everything. When something awful happens to someone, people wonder why it happened. Some people think that this is why there are religions - to cater for the basic human need to find reasons. As far as I can make out, this goes for belief in life after death too. To think that there is nothing after we die is just too much for us to deal with, so we invent an afterlife. There could quite easily be nothing there when we die. Just because this is difficult to understand, it doesn't mean it's not possible, or even probable.
One more question: why did spirits come to you, specifically you, as a child, and why not to me, or any of the other people who have never been contacted by them?

Dont mean to sound disrespectful but your comments above are an example of twisting something round to fit your belief. Medication could be suppressing delusions.
What medication?? I am no expert but i am aware of the range of drugs that were used when i worked with delusional people, none of them would have been used to treat a chest infection. Unless you have experience in this field that comment is inane

Inane - really? - I was putting forward a theory that medication (eg anti-biotics) could effect what ever is happening in the brain when hearing/sensing voices etc. Sorry you thought it inane - How stupid of me to offer an opinion based on a possible physical effect on the body - Of course it was the spirits leaving him alone!!!
some antibiotics can have an effect on you, especially the really strong ones i.e the type given for kidney infections, but on the whole most antibiotics dont have any effect.
from a personal point of view i dont believe that spirit leaves you alone when you are ill, I think you chosee not to work and rightly so. but thats just my opinion.
