stupid stupid stupid stupid. Incredibly so id say ....not to mention sensationalistic, insensitive, stunningly lacking in anykind of restraint or taste even for MH ...there just aren't really enough words to cover perfectly or encapsulate how obvious they have become in their quest to "hike up the horror" . Only their trip to Denbeigh and the complete disreguard for any kind of sensitivity and manipulation and use of the venue and its history to "up the shlock horror ante" shown there might top this one in the bad taste stakes. It would appear from the hints in that blurb that they intend to rake up and "communicate" with the responsible culprits for each of the 8 nights venues and grim tales involved in somekind of incredibly macabre excercise in poor taste...the 8 faces of evil i assume refering to each venues tale of the resident horror who commited whatever it was . This is utterly expected to be honest and seemed exactly the next move or avenue they have been heading down ...cue seances where "the murderer" turns up and decides to tell the lot of them their next for the chop....cue possessions and passing out all over the shop ....cue Karl or Stu suddenely going a bit queer before having to be restrained by security before they re enact some grusome horror of the past , its all so predictable the approach and whim they will take it . The experiements apparently include sensory deprivation tanks ....and a huge seance the size of which they claim has never been attempted before....but really what the hell has any of it got to offer in the way of any kind of use whatsover ? They arent experiements they are spectacles ....viewer grabbing set pieces that usually fall short of even the "spectacle" factor ....remember the coffins ? Remember the tesla machine whilst the rest of the team lay in em ? Not a sausage of scientific use and not really even that entertaining to watch ....expect more of the same and a horror hallowen factor of like 1million on the "kitsch" scale.

I can't watch these shows anymore. I used to so that I could laugh, but now they just make me so angry that I start pacing around the room.

I know what you mean Hayley...the laugh factor has turned into a bit of not so funny when you think about it factor for me ....when it comes down to it they are on national tv spouting out misinformation and manipulating the viewing public with the very targeted brand of show they now do and although it is funny at times to watch the pantomime unfold theres then this nagging realisation that believe it or not some people still watch and take it seriously ...still think that what they are seeing is real or in someway scientific in it approach....and the idea of this manipulation and misrepresentation of the facts to viewers who may simply not be aware of the facts out there makes me more than a little sad and annoyed .
I was wondering if anyone else feels that the show does actually warrent some action from ofcom or somekind of authority body ? I know it has been let off the hook in the past but its moved up a step. I have witnessed many a post or comment or discussion in person where people have been genuinely worried or scared or affected by something they have seen or heard on MH ...where people have been left with a totally incorrect idea or view and gone on to relate it to others further adding to the myth or misinformation ....and where in one case a women actually became convinced that by watching whilst a while back MH "called up the devil" she would be left with "spirits" in her home after a ridiculous conversation with someone on the MH board who on listening to her concerns told her it was possible and to "sprinkle salt" around her home in protection. Now i know there is some level of personal responsibility to not be so guillable but there are so many people out there who on listening to anyone who can give an authoritative tone or impression of being knowledgable take it as read it seems wrong that a show like MH can make statements that appear unchallenged and to the unclued viewer fact when they are far from factual ...often the discussion with Fred Batt and Brian Shepard or Billy Roberts are along the lines of "this is fact" rather than "this is only a view held by these people and as such is not considered factual by the programme ".
Its all utter balls but there are people out there who simply arent as clued up on the truth of things and are very influenced by what they see on a tv show like this in the belief that they wouldnt be allowed to show it on tv if it wasnt real etc etc as silly as that is it is still a widely held view by the british public in some ways...then some self professed "spritual advisor" capitalises on that by further adding to their worries or concerns and before you know it all sorts of rubbish is filling the heads of people who otherwise would never have given it second thought.

Well put Fluff and very important points made. MH is now the TV equivalent of horror porn and becoming ever more sensationalist in an attempt to maintain audience figures.
As you say there will be a proportion of vunerable impressionable individual out there who will undoubtably be affected and negatively influenced by the nightmare panto of 'happenings' that now constitutes the shows output.
I'm an Admin (the sceptical balance) on another slightly more woo forum and becoming increasingly annoyed and frustrated with the influence that shows like MH and TAPS is having as they lower the bar and dumb down.

The influence these shows have is often underestimated i feel ...and its clear by a visit to many forums out there (even general tv forums) that many consider what they see on these shows to be based in some sort of fact and as a result go on to perpetuate the myths and misinformation happily ignorant or unchallenged by any alternative views or offers of correction . Sadly it becomes so frustrating and seemingly pointless at times to offer anything in the way of help or information in some forums when after many attempts to show an alternative or to correct common misconceptions and incorrect facts you get faced with the most incredible amount of impenatrable ignorance or childish dummy spitting from closed comfortable little communities that often feed of reinforcement and self confirmation from each other.
Ironically even when they ask for help due to some "frightening paranormal experience" they claim to be in the midst of any explaination that might render it less frightening , dramatically life threatening or factually simply mundane and normal instead of being welcomed as you might expect someone at their wits end would (noisy plumbing or demon tapping out dixie on your headboard....emmm plumbing please ) it is often rejected out of hand and the reason is generally a deep seated wish for it to actually BE some overly dramatised attention demanding nonsense that will ensure them the full attention of the eager to please "regulars".
Im sure the forum your mod in isnt as bad as the types i was referencing above Morgan and there are quite a few where sceptical comment is welcomed or at least considered albeit perhaps rare....and i do really think a sceptical input in forums can have a great effect often surprisingly so...in the past i used to try and do the same , still do on occasion but shows like MH and TAPS make it increasingly difficult and have reinforced so much incorrect concepts and misinformation in the publics minds .
Many years back i used to frequent the old MH boards and often tried to give a sceptical or alternative view whilst desperatly trying not to resort to screaming "How can you think that in all seriousness" ....there were back then at least a few similar posters and topics were relevant at least and even sometimes debates would start that actually resulted in people learning something or altering their view or actually being challenged by what they were reading instead of simply having it reinforced over and over.I left the board a long time ago however because sadly the few intelligent discussions and willing sceptical voices became lost through pages of innane chit chat and swathes of off topic nonsense that became so frustrating that even the most patient of contributors simply couldnt stand it .
To the brave few who still attempt to try and help or offer some kind of rational input and education on that forum i really have to take my hat off to them...it is admirable and although i cant bring myself to wade through the immense amount of innane crap that now is prevalent there i do still pop in now and then and i never fail to be in awe of the few voices of reason that battle on and remain calm and sane in trying to keep some sembelance of intelligent debate going .
Perhaps i should start trying to do the same ....its almost impossible to find a thread though that is actually on topic and would allow anykind of actual debate or discussion other than hysterical infighting , bitching and endless "did you get a ticket" or deeply mundane ping pongs between people who appear to only be there to talk about themselves their cat/child/bananna/yeast infection .
Id really like to be able to offer something to a forum that might welcome a sceptical voice or at least could benefit from having more balance in their members ...far from a will to brow beat or ram it down throats id really like to be able to make even a tiny difference or perhaps introduce even in anyway at all an idea or view to someone who might never have considered it or had it put to them before .
Its great learning from people on here and increasing knowledge on a subject but it would be useful if it could be put to more use out there and passed on in someway to others.

The forum I Admin on gets it's fair share of bleevers but there are several sceptical members including the founder and we do a pretty good job of keeping the lid on the more credibility stretching posts. But people do get very defensive when you offer a far more rational and plausible explanation to their paranormal experiences. MH and the whole psychic bandwagon has certainly brought a lot of people to the subject but due to a lack of sceptical balance they are pretty loathe to accept anything that may burst their supernatural bubble.

I'm there fighting the good fight, peeling back the veil of ignorance on the official MH forum on Virgin. Most of the Dye in the wool Woo merchants left for pastures that were less questioning and more accepting (like Karl's forum) but many stayed and learned, there are very few left there who believe anything on MH..even if they are still taken in by the Sun's ghost pictures. forums.virginmedia.com/vmlvhaunted/Billy Roberts is a regular across there.

Hi CGADuck , You were actually one of "the brave few" i had in mind when i was discussing the MH forum above Ive ventured forth back onto the board with a post or two after being absent for years , did still pop in for a read now and then Ive seem many of an example on there where your posts have encouraged a little critical thinking and a bit of debate amongst the members and it shows that sometimes it really is worthwhile Noticed Billy Roberts was on there tonight infact and you took the words right out of my mouth with your question to him Might stick around for a while and try a little gentle debate with them all as there does seem to be a genuine willingness to consider other ideas from some of its members . You know there really should be a Most Haunted Annonymous ....somewhere that the skeptical closet watchers can reveal their deepest darkest admittions of covert MH episode watching despite every little fibre of their being screaming "switch it off ". ;D Despite the complete and undeniable knowledge that its all a load of balls there is this inexplicable urge to watch even just a snippet just to see who's cast as the pantomine twanky , the villain , the fool and the plucky herione (as if we didnt already know who fits each role ) and then sit in awe at the sheer ham spectacle of it all as something nearing a skeptical overload attempts to burst out of the mouth in a colourfull aray of comedic quips and observations. Its almost akin to kind of inexplicable urge you get to watch newsnight when Boris or Brown is on ...you know it will be a car crash , you know you'll feel the instant bubbling of annoyance build in your gut, you know it will be full of bumbling disaster and verbal nonsense but you just cant help feeling the need to witness it and comment on the comedic circus that awaits you. I have to agree Morgan , its long been clear that the "eeeevillleeeee" approach is now firmly the genre of choice for the MH crew , drawing heavily on the hammer house obsessions of Karl and the gothic gurning that Yvette now seems to have adopted as her "default coupen position" along with a now legendary desperate love of all things "demon" encroaching on almost every single live as the latest "ouija stalker" trails the team (one presumes even to the bog) throughout the 8 nights frolics and tomfoolery ...no fictional eighteenth centuary monk with a penchant for disembodied harpsicord playing is good enough for em now ...no made up love scorned lord of the manor hell bent on peeble chucking is gonna cut it ....nope they aint gonna be happy unless theres a feeking imaginary devil with red eyes and steaming nostrils tapping out dixie on their boom mike and getting yvie to spell K.....I.....L.....(well we know where thats going) on the ouija board for our viewing distaste. Tis most definatly showbiz as you say Morg , nothing more nothing less and the biggest laugh of all is watching them do the very things Karl has expressed his distaste for in his recent "Unexplained debate" series on their channel in what comes across as a poor attempt at trying to say "look at me being all skeptical and proper" which has had me doubled up on occasion in spasms in laughter at his ironic and seemingly hypocritical comments surrounging everything from the use of "past" mediums which he seems to be digging right in with very poorly veiled attacks on old degsy on most every show to his recent comments surrounding his "skepticism" on everything from demons to degsy with a hysterical recent expresion of his disgust at "charging fake mediums" etc ....he seems to have no irony or hypocritical switch . Lets see what the latest shennanigans provide Yeah, but 8 lousy nights? If they carry this bollox on this time next year the lives will run for a month at a time. Far too many other decent programmes I'd rather waste my life watching than tuning into another adfest splattered with Fat Cow claiming she's been touched (wishful thinking I'm bloody sure), Yvette's close ups of her revolting nostrils and other horrors. Oh and Karl and Stuart being the nobheads we all know and hate. Urrgghh!! If they wanna go looking for evil it wouldn't hurt them to try starting in some of our prisons. After all when has a ghost molested little kids or murdered anyone? [/quote]

MH is becoming a major league laughing stockand I think they are being very disrespectful of locations and people around them.
Stu and Karl getting ballsy and aggressive...........girls banding together for a screamfest, no real experimental control of anything..............I'm sure there is an old episode of scooby doo in there

Yeah I decided (unfortunately) to put myself through watching MH the new series last night, doesn't Yvette over emphasise the spooky going's on in a location, well last night's show was a complete farse, what is it with Cath and her screaming?
Cath has been in the show for some years now so she should be quite complacent to the goings on, she was standing in the dark and a stone was thrown towards her and landed near her feet and by crist did we know about it! i have never heard the most staged screaming in all my life, that did not warrant that amount of noise, oh and as we all know nothing was caught on camera (probably Stu throwing it).
Yvette in her commentry does like to hype it up abit about the spooky goings on in the location and at the end mentioning about the poltergeist activity with the stone throwing (what frigging stone throwing we never saw any).
The format for the show is the same sh*t different location every time from doing ouija boards to shouting out to allege ghosts, doors slamming, girls screaming, stone throwing, Cath saying she's being touched, and Karl and Stu acting like plonkers, but most importantly no tangible evidence whatsoever....

I've been up to Inveraray Jail for a visit and must say there is something eerie about the place. If they were professional and went about it, with a proper set up, no stupidity and calmness, I am sure the 'stone throwing' may have been cuaght on camera.................or maybe not ;D
It's like handing a camcorder over to a group of teenagers and dumping them in the middle of a forest.....................oh hang on, that was the blair witch project!

What exactly was the point of Phil being back on tonight? I was really pleased when I saw he was back but then they just plonked him on a sofa next to that Doofus Brian and that was it! It was so predictable yet again. I had high hopes they might have improved things after all the complaints that they don't actually investigate anything much, at least not in any rigorous way but no, it was the same old same old, Kath screaming, Stu tripping out, Karl getting tetchy and Yvonne being bossy. And don't get me started on the ludicrous number of ad breaks - I've never known anything like it. I can only watch it on sky+ with a 30 minute lag so I can fast forward through them all...
