I'm not sure where to begin Leon with "is there a genuine medium" but to be quite honest, I really don't think there is. I would love nothing more than there to be geniune people who could talk to the dead but from my own experiences I have never seen or had a genuine reading, alot of psychics are motivated by money and actually believing that they have a "gift" as such...lots of people in this world have had some sort of paranormal experience such as myself (I have questioned my own experiences). Going back about 20 years ago my ex saw a young boy sitting in the chair next to his bed one morning just staring at him and I remember him saying that this boy was in solid form, he described him very clearly and what he was wearing, but who knows he could of been dreaming, i will never know. There are strange things in this world that perhaps don't have an explanation or maybe they do if you investigate further, but one thing (this is my opinion) I really don't believe you can talk to the dead i just have never seen or experienced anything tangible and let's be honest Derren Brown is a magician and not psychic and even he does it better than all the tv psychics Well, Tracey, I agree with you except I think there is some truth in it although whether the genuine psychics are anonymous types tucked away and take 50p for the charity box rather than £20 for a seat I don't know. My neighbours constantly ask me to come along and meet such psychics, and one day I may do so, although if they start cold reading techniques on me I know I will lose my temper and then my neighbours will start slashing my tyres!! That book, A Venture In Immortality, is worth a read if your local library has one. If not they can order it for a small sum (typically 60p) usually. Derren Brown annoys me at times. The lottery prediction show - why did he present The Wisdom of Crowds theory as the solution when it clearly wasn't? It was a split-screen video trick as everyone could see. Why does he not tell people how he can predict for example what someone in a crowd will guess as the answer to something (I know how he does it but most people don't) and why doesn't he say how he did the fake mediumship thing here as below? No point in omitting that if you're trying to save people from deception! I have no idea how he did that, obviously, looks beyond cold-reading to me. Well okay I see some obvious cold-reading here but some of it is still uncanny. IMHO this does not go into as much detail as a typical TV show mediumship session, but is similar to the level of success shown at the live theatre shows. No one should assume DB knows it all, btw, he does not, nice chap though he is.www.funny-videos.co.uk/videofakemediumderrenbrown.html

Hi Leon My personal feelings are that at this time there hasn't been anyone who has proven to me that they have any ability to contact the dead but that doesn't mean that no one can. I would love it to be true. The main site has many examples of fraudulent behaviour, explanations of cold/hot reading. I did believe, I have visited mediums and used to watch the likes of Colin Fry on the television but the main site gave me information which in my mind gave logical explanation to everyone I've seen who proclaim they have this "gift".
I'm not saying I don't believe that something continues after we die because I too have had a couple of experiences I can't explain that are personal to me but as I said nothing any medium has said or done has not been explained away by the things I've read and learned since joining Bad Psychics.

Amaris, I really appreciate your reply and Tracey's. Have a look at that book, I know I keep going on about it, but if he was really that minister then it is significant. I don't know who he was, so pls realise I can't vouch for it for sure, but it has that ring of truthfulness to it that is hard to fake (in my experience). The following anecdotes I include just for completeness, but I have less confidence in these than the ones I mentioned before as these parties I have some knowledge of as not the most reliable of witnesses. But here they are anyway Another ex of mine: Sussex Downs as a child - vanished from her parents' sight although I think she said she could see them and called to them but they couldn't see or hear her even when she was right in front of them. This happened for some time, an hour or a half hour, when the did "find" her again her Mickey Mouse or Disney watch was behind by the amount of time she was "missing". Another neighbour: claims to astral travel, claims her dec'd husband can steer her car for her when she gets into a bad traffic situation Another neighbour: phantom cat can be felt on her bed some nights, she feels it and sometimes feels its claws through the duvet; had message from her brother who took his own life via spiritualist church medium, when questioned by me she insisted it was not a cold-reading and medium there had knowledge of things he couldn't possibly have otherwise have known Another ex of mine: London psychic suddenly came out with stuff about my father that no one would ordinarily be able to guess at all. But I wasn't there, so I don't know what was leaked by my ex to him. He also told her I was dating or seeing a blonde behind my ex's back or would meet a blonde and leave my ex! Untrue - I should have been so lucky! ;D

I haven't replied to this thread for a while, but I have been following it. I really want to believe that there is a life after death and on television Tony Stockwell seemed real. I was really very angry about this live show and I still am. To see him discuss suicide and use the death of a child (the mother was obviously very keen, but the father I think just wanted to leave) was heartbreaking.
I think Leon is in danger of being swamped by his desire to believe and have proof and the amount of information out there. I am still a believer, but having seen a live show I am much more sceptical of those who say they have the gift.
John Edwards in particular I think is much worse than Stockwell (if that were possible) - he almost beats his audience into submission. My mum still likes to watch Colin Fry but I draw the line at watching Derek Acorah talk to dogs!
Also, can I just say how sorry I am that the site has closed except for the forums - it was a valuable resource.

Hi francesr, they all seem real to a point until you start reading lot's of transcripts of readings from all various mediums and then understand how cold reading works...then you start too see right through these mediums and realise that anyone can do this, it's not hard infact it's very easy, it's just having the balls to do it and charge for it, which i'm totally against.
Since ive joined bad psychics there is alot of information here to read and not once have i seen an amazing reading even in the past where iv'e been to psychics and spiritualist churches ive never experienced an amazing reading from any psychic and to be quite frank i don't think i ever will, so i remain open minded to the possibility but i'm not holding my breath...too many ordinary people nowadays are just jumping on the bandwagon to be psychic, it just doesn't wash with me, oh and charging a fortune for it!
