Whats happened to the UK Skeptics forum? Has John Jackson stopped taking his tablets and finally lost his mind? Cant believe these skeptics, they run a popular site, and then close it down! I'd never do something like that

And for the record. This is how immature and mentally unstable John Jackson was. i1083.Report this post to Admin please.com/albums/j393/JonDonnis1/Untitled-2.jpg[/img]

Nah John is ok. He was a good nemesis while it lasted.
Have just spoke with him so I know why he closed it down.
I agree with his reasons and wish him all the best

Quite surprised about that news although it had been quiet on there lately and John does seem to be spending a lot of time on Spiritlove
Don't you shut us down Jon!

I wasn't keen on the site as the majority of sceptics on there just wanted to show how intelligent they were and argued with each other about it. Although I did like John Jackson and thought he had a lot of time for others opinions, shame the others did not.

Yeah unfortunately a lot of people who were on the UKS forum were a bit stuck up and knowitall.
This is one of the reasons I always avoided forums like that one, and also the Richard Dawkins Forum too.
And this is also one of the problems facing SitP meetings too right now.
Luckily the BP forum is a place for all people and we seem to have a good mix.
Anyway I have invited John back here, he says he will come say hi when he can and that it will be a nice change to just be himself and not have to worry about being a knowitall smart arse
(I may have misquoted him slightly there)

I agree ADMIN. SitP is to a certain extent becoming an elitist clique which I'm feeling increasingly alienated from - and I'm not even an alien. I get the same impression from reading the RDF forum. It seems like a constant one upmanship battle in some posts. Thankfully BP is still fairly grounded and respected members like Barb and Fluffet, Amaris and ADMIN among others provide an intelligent but accessible debate.

I agree ADMIN. SitP is to a certain extent becoming an elitist clique which I'm feeling increasingly alienated from - and I'm not even an alien. The main problem I believe is that SitP started off as just a nice small place for skeptics to learn new things and perhaps meet other people with similar thinking. However now it has become nothing more than an entertainment factor, a gig, a place to promote books, DVDs and TV shows. I may have at one time been the UK's most famous skeptic, but even I feel like SitP is now less to do with grass roots skepticism, and more to do with promotion Lol, thanks for squeezing my name in at the end!

Just catching up with threads ....hadn't realised UKS had been closed down but much like any website or forum its existance relies on the energy will and freetime of the person/people behind it ...if the place isn't fullfilling what they want it to be or acomplishing any goals or even more importantly if the goals, passion and energy needed change and evolve then its for the best I suppose. It was a good resource and there were some really good discussions at times on there when egos and point scoring was put aside much like it is on any forum . Whatever Johns reasons were for closing it down I'm sure he'll find an outlet somewhere to keep debate going

Cool...would be good to hear from him on here again I found his condescending pap rather distasteful for the most part Shaz. Should Jon allow him back, I have no doubt he will do the same in which case I shall use my Admin functionality to delete his account which will put Jon in an awkward position.
