Stratford residents claim they feel “threatened and intimidated” as posters declaring the neighbourhood under Islamic “Shariah” law were plastered to walls and lamp-posts.
It is not clear who is responsible for the posters but concerned residents seem to think them to be the work of a vigilante Muslim group.

Bright yellow signs announcing that certain areas are shariah-controlled zones have been placed in several regions across the UK.
The signs read "You are entering a Shariah controlled zone. Islamic rules enforced" and state that smoking, alcohol, music, drugs, gambling, prostitution and porn are forbidden.
The Newham Recorder said that residents of Stratford feel “threatened and intimidated” by the signs, and that police are working to take down the notices.
They have also appeared in the Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets and Newham boroughs of London.
