3 August 2011 On his way in to work this morning, Radio 5 live's sports reporter spotted a disc shaped craft circling above a field in Hertfordshire. Was it a UFO? Mike Sewell describes what he saw and Timothy Good, an unidentified flying objects expert, tells 5 live Breakfast what it could have been www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14387365

He more than likely saw an aircraft on approach to nearby Stanstead Airport. Case closed...or is it? morganp

Maybe teh aliens were using Stanstead to avoid the extra security checks at Heathrow?

Easiest thing in the world to dismiss it imo

He more than likely saw an aircraft on approach to nearby Stanstead Airport. Case closed...or is it? morganp I don't know if you listened to what he said, but he did say it was around 15 miles out of Stansted and heading in the other direction. I found it interesting. Easiest thing in the world to dismiss it imo I've listened to it several times Ant. The area in question is all farmland with approximately 10-15 farms in the area between the village of Cottered and the town of Buntingford which are 4 miles apart. Sunrise was 5.23am and at the time it would have been quite dark. I'd be very surprised if others don't come forward and confirm this sighting given the amount of residential/farmland where it took place. Given that he observed the object for three minutes why didn't he stop and take a photograph or video using his mobile phone or camera?. I've looked in the local press for the area and so far there are no independent reports to support the sighting. The interview below is taken from: Buntingford & Royston News | Latest Local News & Events From Buntingford & Royston | UFO spotted over Cottered “I just noticed in the sky straight ahead looking like it was descending was what I thought was plane with a bright white light at the front and a couple flashing lights either side and it was coming down,” he told host Nicky Campbell during the breakfast programme.Sounds very much like a plane with it's landing/take off lights on to me. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_landing_lights“It can’t have been a plane because it didn’t continue its journey. I wouldn’t say it hovered but it stayed in a certain area.”Aircraft on approach or take off can appear to hover or stay stationary, especially if you are in the flightpath or looking at the aircraft face on - this works over distance particularly well. Certain atmospherics can accentuate and distort the bright wingtip and approach lights particularly in hot weather. He lost track of the object but did see a higher bright light in the sky with a bright white light.May confirm that he was looking in the direction aircraft landing or taking off since this seems to be a textbook description of the main approach light. www.origin-www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/tech_ops/read.main/127369/But he says he wasn’t alone during the time of the incident – a Volkswagen was travelling along the road in front of him at the same time, the driver of which “must have seen it.”Maybe the VW driver did or maybe he didn't - we don't know so there's no 'must have' to discuss. Perhaps the driver/passengers recognised it for what it may actually have been and didn't give it a second thought. People who live near major airports will be accustomed to the various light configurations of aircraft on take off and approach as well as the locations where they're likely to be seen. Was this reporter familar with the area, had he used the same road at this time before or was he unaccustomed to this route to the airport?. A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police said they had only received one call on the subject from a member of the public regarding the sighting. If this was a large disc shaped UFO hovering low over the fields of Hertfordshire I'd expect more than two sighting reports even at that time in the morning. And - no crop circles reported either What's your take on it?. morganp

I don't know Morgan as it's hearsay and we can only take his word for it but I would say if he works for the station and knows he is open for ridicule, I would be hesitant to say he was sloshed. He was clearly driving hence no photograph although like you, he could have stopped and did this if given the chance.
I do know what you mean by the flightpath. I have seen this several times and you would never know the aircraft is moving quite fast if looking head on and often above the plane is the next one following the same path but I am sure this guy has seen this several times as well given his route to work each day.
I am not saying he saw a UFO, just pointing out it seems interesting on the face of what he reported.

He was on his way to the airport via a route he was unfamiler with so he'd probably not be aware that he'd be in line with the approach/take off route. I'm not doubting that he saw exactly what he described but I am doubting his perception and recollection of it. He did see a UFO - he saw a flying object that he couldn't identify at the time. morganp

This video was apparently shot over the M11 near Stansted. It's hard to believe it's not faked as others would have seen this too. I think we can assume they are not planes coming in to land though ;D

Listen to the audio. The spoken audio track and the ambient in car track are acoustically different. The lights in the sky have been added post production.
Poor quality fake IMO.

Saw the dots I thought they were just specks on the windscreen, or a reflection ;D.
