Pakistan Taliban causes revulsion by shooting girl who spoke out Attempt to kill activist Malala Yousafzai, 14, could be 'watershed' moment that turns public tide against militants and extremism.. www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/oct/09/taliban-pakistan-shoot-girl-malala-yousafzai?Working on the supposition that we ,as a species ,try to kill what scares us... Then what scares the Taliban is that most dangerous of creatures ,a teenage school girl with an education ,a mind that she uses and a voice of her own.

Heard on the news this morning that an operation had been performed to remove the bullet that was lodged in the young girls brain. Do so hope that it is successful and that she makes a full and rapid recovery. As you so rightly say watchman, this young and brave young woman is so much a threat to the Taliban that they simply had to remove her. That they failed should give them pause for thought, after all, it seems that a higher being was looking out for her!!!!, where they not.

"it seems that a higher being was looking out for her!!!!, where they not."
You'll forgive me if I do not agree.
Of course I wish her well ,that sh#thole of a "country" needs all the educated people it can get its hands on.
The Talibans failure to assassinate a school girl I would suggest is due to the use of an inbred retard with an AK74.
Any way lets hope she pulls through.

Of cause I forgive you watchman, I do not believe in a higher being myself. It was my way of saying that as they, the " Taliban " do believe, they may think again, as their higher being was not too pleased and the school girl survived.

Even if she recovers it's unlikely she'll ever be able to return home. The Taliban won't just walk away from this. They won't see it as a sign from their god that he wanted her to live. More likely they'll think they failed him and will want to put it right.

Truly it is written ...
"the sons of the prophet are brave men and bold and quite unaccustomed to fear"
although the reality is they are just scum ,ragged arsed mountain bandits who should of been eradicated 200 years ago.

Hopefully the young girl who is on her way to the UK for further treatment will make a full recovery.

That's going to be one hell of a security-tight journey - and that security must continue all the time she is here.
Even if Malala stays in the UK now after her recovery (which no doubt will be the case) she will be top of the Taliban's 'target' list. They have said in no uncertain terms they will try to kill her again if she recovers. Possibly, the UK is the least safe of all places for her to be. Some of the most notorious terrorists in recent times have been found to be UK bred - many having trained in camps in Pakistan and then returned to the UK - possibly operating undercover.

Good to hear that the Pakistan government are going to pay for all of her health cares while she is in the UK, I do expect her to claim asylum and stay here, although if she does make some kind of recovery whereby she can think for herself I get the feeling she will want to go back to Pakistan and continue her fight for womens rights etc

She will not be SENT back , but there may be elements who will pressure her to return .... she is after all the one small light in a land of darkness and ignorance and some may seek to try to build a power base around her ,in order to try to fight the militants. (or possibly to garner power to themselves)
But it must be remembered she is just one school girl ,brave ? yes. articulate ? yes .Intelligent ? yes. But just a school girl.... not a Boadicea , not a Marianne ,not even a Jemima Nicholas.
I would suggest she has already done more than one could reasonably expect in standing up to these inbred half-wits with guns. And yes Scaramouche is right the Taliban will /must try again. Of course if they actually had more brain cells than teeth ,they would realise that in killing her they would create such a powerful martyr that the Taliban would be organising its own extinction.
Unfortunately ,I don't believe these brigands have the mental capacity to understand this.
No ... I think its now up to the Pakistanis themselves to get to grips with these thugs. Clear out the tribal areas , impose the rule of law ,remove and prosecute the corrupt government officials ,purge the army and intelligence services of extremist sympathisers. In short re-create the country that Jinnah envisaged back in 1948. And this is not the sort of work that a school girl ,however gifted ,can be expected to take on.
(Although ...maybe ,just maybe when she is older ....who knows.)

Well if there's one thing that brave Malala Yousufzai has shown us all...
The Taliban are a s*it shot.
