Titanic director James Cameron believes he may have discovered Jesus's lost tomb.
He said DNA evidence and statistical analysis of a set of 2,000-year-old stone coffins found in Jerusalem in 1980 suggest they once held the remains of Christ and his family.
Cameron said tests on human residue taken from the ossuaries believed to be those of Jesus and Mary Magdalene indicates they might have been a couple.
And Cameron - the man behind The Terminator - believes they may have had a son, Judah.
Cameron, who produced a documentary for the Discovery Channel, will unveil the two key coffins at a press conference in New York.
He said the findings did not necessarily conflict with the fundamental Christian belief that Jesus was resurrected three days after his crucifixion.
The Discovery Channel claimed the evidence could be the "greatest archaeological find in history".
"It doesn't get bigger than this," said Cameron.
"We've done our homework. We've made the case. And now it's time for the debate to begin."

DNA evidence ? I don't understand that, surely you need a member of the family to compare the DNA to ?
This story sounds a lot like the fake Ossuary of James (Jesus' brother) that was "found" a few years ago.

I wonder how many people were called Yoseph or Yesua etc in those days...I have a feeling that this would be like someone digging up a John Smith in 2,000 years and saying " well yes this must be John Smith the famous brewer of fine ales!!!!!" what a load of crap...and the DNA part has so many holes in it I could fly a 747 thorugh it, how are they going to determine whos DNA it relates to?..I understand that god takes a while to return cheek swabs ...its great having a missus who is a Biologist/Geneticist sometimes...

I wondered too about the DNA. Looks like they tested the bones they found and this shows they're from the same family. Of course the question still remains, which family ? They've found the tomb of the Great John Smith brewer of fine ales ? ! ? I'll make a pilgrimage to that one !

I have no doubt that they have found a family tomb, but as you say ..who's family and how could they possibly connect these remains with the mythical figure of Jesus by DNA? Unless of course the Vatican has the real blood of JC that is in a testable condition! You are welcome to join me...need to stop of at Mecca first..( the bookmakers )

Even "IF" the blood on the shroud was testable...its a proved 14th fake. www.mcri.org/Shroud.html"The "Shroud" is a beautiful painting created about 1355 for a new church in need of a pilgrim-attracting relic." Yet another prop for the Jesus Cultists... Next!

Yes it is a fake (for several reasons), but that has not stopped the believers.
Just imagine the outcry if the DNA in the tomb matched the DNA on the shroud. Even I might start to believe if that happened !
Oh and why don't they test Jesus' foreskin as well, but which one of the 14 "genuine" foreskins would you pick ?

the theory behind this claim is completely lost on me im afraid. how on earth can they state with any accuracy whatsoever that its the coffin of christ with his dna. if its his dna how did they get it and its completely unprovable anyway due to there actualy being no body to show it against etc, raised after 3 days so bel;ieve it or not guess what , he wasnt there to test on..lol also how can they link mary with jesus as a couple with dna ? that one is definitly above my head. i dont hold with the bibles account of mary as a prositute etc anyway, but this seems to me to be another way for yet another book and that followed on by a very expensively made film chronicling either the theory itself or the fakery of them in to trying to make everyone believe that its right in the first place...complete codswallop

From what I've read, there are several "coffins". The three we are interested in contain the bones of a man, a woman and a boy. I suppose the DNA tests are to show that the man and woman are connected to the boy, a family. The identification comes from the names carved on the coffins.

I think the point is so what if it's proven to be the tomb of a man named Jesus, how does that prove some kind of divinity? The only thing it will prove is that a man called Jesus existed and if the female is identified as Mary Magdalene, so what?
There were many so called prophets in the era that Jesus was supposed to have lived, they preached about the things Jesus was supposed to have preached. To believe in the Jesus of religion you have to believe in the bible......enough said? Or should I point out again the similarities between biblical "stories" and older myths?
edited just to add ....as I've said before how can they DNA without having a comparison from that time? It's all total rubbish to sell a film.
