The Collapsible Theatre, an Oxford based drama group has upset the Church of Scientology by producing a spoof musical based on L. Ron Hubbard’s Battlefield Earth. The play called Xenu is Loose (subtitle: “Cower puny humans as the dark prince of the Galactic Federation rains atomic death once more upon your pitiful planet - the musical!”) will debut at this years Edinburgh Fringe festival in August. Dubbed in the press as the festivals first sect scandal, Collapsible hopes to use this year's Fringe to warn the world of the impending threat posed by Evil Overlord Xenu, and spread Scientology's common sense principles across the galaxy! In the play Lord Xenu has escaped his eternal prison and there are only two young scientologists that can stop him. Will they be able to learn enough to defeat him and his amazing alien powers? The spoof rock musical which pokes fun at Scientology dogma has received an angry response from scientologists, who have urged people to stay away and are considering what action to take against the play. Scientology spokeswoman Janet Kenyon said “We would advise people to find out for yourself from the horse’s mouth, not from some kooks,” she said. [...] “There is nothing in the theology or philosophy of Scientology about belief in aliens.” The Collapsible Theatre’s page can be found at www.xenuisloose.com/I really wish I could see this!

There should also be more films like The Life of Brian... ;D Like the Monty Python's "Life and Times of Mohammed" perhaps? About as likely as me being a dress size 8 by tomorrow morning

Funny how the Scientologists are saying now that it isn't based on aliens! Could it be that too much info has become public knowledge on their founder's sci fi writing and the fact he stated that there is a lot of money to made from religion Combining the two, add some brainwashing of vulnerable people and hey presto ............

everything scientologists say is a lie, they have one tactic only and that is "fair game" they just scream "what is your crime, did you rape a child" at people.

I bet where ever the Scientologists set up camp the local private investigators rub their hands with glee. I heard they have firms on retainer for investigating people who oppose them.

Zappa did a great parody in Joes Garage - L. Ron Hoover at the First Church of Appliantology - where devotees had to accept that "sexual gratification can only be achieved through the use of machines" - if you want an appliance to love you you had to learn to speak German (a lot of really cute ones come from over there) - they looked like magical pigs with marital aids stuck all over them - which sounds better than the original imo
