Ok, slightly tabloid-ish thread title... Germany has banned Tom Cruise from filming at military sites in the country because of his association with Scientology. Well said, Herr von Stauffenberg! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6240312.stm

This film has been discssed on one of the military forums I am a member of, and everyone thinks it is going to be rubbish, as most of cruises films are.

Not sure if it is a recognised religion anywhere in Europe. But this is going to make it harder for them to get a foothold in the UK.

Very funny episode, that. Even though the Scientologists will have you believe that they don't actually believe that stuff. ;D

they have a foothold in the UK unfortunately they also run a rather silly anti drugs treatment program (which can make you sweat radioactive poison apparantly). Its called Narconon and its particularly dangerous because it maquerades as a legitimate addiction treatment.

Last I heard, they had bought a place in London (or somewhere) and were trying to get recognised as a religion? I imagine that getting recognised as a religion is pretty much like planning permission, the planners have to explain why they can't get permission. And a simple "NO, you're all weirdos" is not sufficient to stop them setting up.

Well I believe its the charities commision which has asked in parliament for this to not be recognised as a religion. As a charity it would be tax exempt and that is why scientologists call it a religion so they can keep all the money. I suppose paying for all those surveillance teams they employ to follow you must cost quite a bit.

Von stauffenberg is one of the heroes of world war 2, he tried to slay the monster and unfortunately failed, Cruise is certainly not going to be able portray him accurately and it will be another action film with a tearful hero and it will be awful. The other problem for Cruise is that Von stauffenberg was tall, something Cruise cannot claim to be.

If the diddy man is going to play Von Stauffenberg in a Hollywood movie will they change it so the plot succeeds ?

Knowing Hollywood Hitler will destroy the bomb plotters in a Matrix style kung fu scene, whilst Mr Cruise magically escapes up his own butt. ;D
Historical accuracy and Hollywood are not best friends...

Its more dangerous when people learn their history from innacurate movies, anyone remember the U571 fiasco which basically pissed all over the british capture of an enigma machine from the U (unterseeboot) boat and awarded that to the americans? Anyone who knows their history shouldnt be too bothered by that but what annoyed me is it was from the U110 not the U571.

It's a terrible cult, and deserves to be crushed. I watched the docu' in which a police chief thanked them for their help during - was it 7/7? Anyway, they *didn't* help, they just pointed their bleeding fingers at the injured. When something like that, of such obvious stupidity, permiates such levels of command, I don't feel safe.
Yeeees, well, guess that could apply to many things, many ideologies and systems. But volcano's? Atom bombs? Space Gods? Police Cheifs? No, no, no - they just SHOULDN'T mix!
Just reading about the great man in the poster - what a guy...

I am so with you there, The Yanks have almost completely wiped out any mention of British, Canadian etc off the record. It drives me nuts and my wife often leaves the room when I start moaning about it mid film. Saving Private Ryan is a prime example of this, the final battle is in the area held by the British and the German unit they fought in that battle (the ss) were over a hundred miles away regrouping after the Brits and Canadians gave them a kicking. I know Im an anorak on these things , Ill get my coat.
