what...do they think he is the anti-christ or something? Denying a child an education because of his or her surname is ludicrous.

More par for the course as far as Catholics are concerned, almost as ludicrous as denying people rights based on sexual persuasion or contraceptive usage.

Catholics are big on the concept of hell. Its how they control the members of the flock. If you dont do as we say your going to hell, if you dont lead a good and just life your going to hell, if you fiddle with your widdle your going to hell. if you dont attend church your going to hell. Basically in catholicism EVERYTHING you do will cause you to go to hell and the church is the ONLY way you can avoid eternal damnation. The sins you cannot go to hell for are few, I think origami is ok and maybe running a bath too (unless thats pride).

How delighfully bankrupt of humanity the concept of hell is....
God: If you dont do as I say you are going to burn in hell for eternity, I dont care if *I* made you the way you are and knew exactly how you would turn out , predetermining you for hell from day one of your existance, I also demand worship and thanks for everything including making you burn in hell for eternity and despite all of the abuse and damnation.. I LOVE YOU!!.
Catholicism seems to be like some abusive disfunctional relationship in action.

Its actually very benign providing you do exactly as they say, its big on forgiveness and peace etc. They are all basically the same though, they are middlemen between you and an afterlife because they have elected themselves to be so. Its much easier if you cut out the middleman. Since when has anyone needed religion as a moral basis?

They are also better at extracting a confession not to mention the whole 5 loaves and sleep with the fishes thing.
