it goes back to what i said previously jon. Mediums do not work in the physical realms. No instrument can measure what is taking place outside. Its like a major thought process. It cannot be measured. So no not an excuse, treat this how you want to but, horses have always ran fast. There was a time when we had no way of measuring speed. Now we can. Man was able to develop something which suited the matter. How long it takes an object to travel over a defined distance. The horse is physical, a car is physical. We can measure practically anything now. As long as its within the known forces of the universe. Again the word known applies.

I can't join in this debate because every time I so much as think about lickle Colin, the only image I get is of a mole (can't remember who wrote the article that originally compared him to a mole but they were spot on) and I love moles, I do. All fuzzy and velvety with their big pink hands and little blinking eyes.
If it weren't for the fact that I love moles, I would say that he is an unprincipled little git who knows full well that he is talking b***cks.
"I'm going to leave his love with you, OK my love?" BLEUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!!

I think he's a knowing fake. I believe that there are people who genuinely think they talk to the dead, but given the evidence of his seance fraud, I don't think this is the case with Fry.
There was a BBC documentary a while back where a selection of grieving people went to see mediums. Colin Fry really sickened me. He was talking to a widow - she'd already had a bad experience with a medium who she had every confidence wasn't talking to her husband - and Fry was asking her who had cut themselves after her husband's death. He was clear he meant deliberately harming themselves.
If she'd swallowed this nonsense (she didn't) I can envision this causing problems in the family. In her position I might have worried that it was my child, and had all sorts of confusing attempts to communicate with them about it. It could certainly have caused a great deal of anxiety to anyone who believed Fry has real mediumistic abilities.

that depends what your definition of possible is. Something that is possible, is something that can actually be done. Something that doesnt break the known laws of the universe. So we know all of the known laws of the Universe Do we? All scientists pack ya bags and go home! And What about that that may be possible then. ??

good post, i have beeb trying to make this point. we only accept what is deemed universally possible. meaning science laws. spirit do not operate within these laws. Again i will say, the equipment to measure the spirit energies, has not and cannot be manufactured. Come on, lets try stretching the minds for once.

How do you know? Who says they operate outside of these laws? Can we speak to these spirits please sothey can confirm this? or do we just blindly take your word for it?
Again who has said this? Can you name the spirit who said this please, or get him on this forum?

that depends what your definition of possible is. Something that is possible, is something that can actually be done. Something that doesnt break the known laws of the universe. Ah, but the "known" laws of the universe have been broken before, many times. -- It was once "known" the Earth was flat, and ships would fall off the edge if they sailed too far. -- It was once "known" the Sun and planets ringed the Earth. -- It was once "known" humans couldn't travel twenty miles an hour in a vehicle like a train because the speed would kill them. --It was once "known" that bathing daily was a serious health risk. Who is to say that someday what we believe to be the "known" laws of the universe concerning the survival of the consciousness after death may not be proven wrong, too?

Sorry to hold you up on this, but what you claim there is actually a myth. Mever in history has any intelligent society ever thought the Earth was flat, this is a total myth, The ancient Greeks KNEW the earth was round. It was as easy as looking at the horizon of the Ocean and seeing the curve.
Maybe that will happen, but as it is we have no proof to even suggest that it may be a possibility. The world is an amazing enough place without fantasy and delusion.

I completley agree with Zeus. You must know by now about cold reading, and how it can be made to look like you are using "Psychic" powers to contact the dead, when in fact you aren't. You speak about opening your mind a little, so Im asking for you yourself to keep an open mind as to the possibility of these mediums being frauds.

And who said that Spirits dont operate within the usual physical laws? I have no evidence, so this may be pointless, but i could take a wild guess that you have been TOLD this and not experienced it first hand. Maybe a medium (who you have paid, say, £20 to see) has told you, or maybe you read it in a book (which is £9.99 at all "good" bookshops)??
Hmm....

Oh, absolutely, I know of cold reading, and after a little research at the Randi site I was able to figure out that Char Margolis was doing just that on her "Psychic at Large" program on Sci-Fi Channel. I have little doubt that John Edward does the same, that Colin Fry (from what I've read) is an inept seance faker, and Sylvia Brown(e?) is just an idiot. Many psychics and mediums probably *are* frauds, but what if some are not? My theory is some mediums may get their information not from the ghosts of loved ones, but from the thoughts of the living people they "read" for. Perhaps they reject the notion that they are using ESP and decide they must be in touch with spirits. Could be an interesting topic for a psychology paper, you reckon?

I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but nope, I've never even had my palm read. I have read a good many books, onboth sides of the subject, but I pay dollars for mine, not pounds!

I think maybe some "mediums" do believe that they are talking to spirits, but i think they are kidding themselves without realising it. I would like to see some proof of existence of psychic powers, but I think there will always be a Believer/Skeptic debate. I started as a complete believer and bought loads of books myself, meditating etc. Then I heard about cold reading and bought Ian Rowlands book and I saw it all in a new light. Started doing readings to random people in the street, and was almost convincing myself!! I told them after about what i was REALLY doing, and some were having trouble believing that i wasnt psychic. Im afraid to admit though, there is still a part of me that wants to believe in it all. But then I think that Rowland's explanations of what is going on is, sadly, the most likely. And yet i still believe in Aliens, UFO's etc without proof. I think Im a little confused!

lets face it, whatever we are confronted with, some will always dispute it. But it makes the world go round. I as a rule, rerely take notice of what is writen or reported. I just let my mind and heart decide for me. Like skeppies i like clear facts, if there isnt a total 100% instance of proof, i judge on the possibilty.
