I'm a smoker. I don't drink but must admit I enjoy a cigarette. When I had our youngest child I wouldn't allow anyone near him with a cigarette, this gave me the extra will power I needed to cut down to 2 a day. Unfortunately, I gained even more weight and actually felt ill because of it. I know it's wrong to smoke and do worry about cancer, heart attacks, etc. I haven't yet found an effective form of help and it's hard. The weight issue becomes a bigger problem.

What does coughing up a plucked chicken have to do with smoking??!

I don't think I will bother watching them! I smoke 30-40 a day and am well aware of what I am doing to myself.
I have no will power what so ever and actually enjoy smoking.

I have no will power what so ever and actually enjoy smoking. That's it, it's my own personal pleasure (for want of a better phrase). But now some members of the public think they've got the right to pass judgement on me, to my face as well, or treat me llike a leper. I wonder how many go out every week getting stoned, I don't.

It's an individual choice and us smokers have already been victimised enough!
I am respectful of people who don't smoke, and would never smoke in a non smokers house, car or near them if it bothered them.

Personally i dont smoke, and have never smoked. I dont mind if other people smoke, just dont do it near me. I refuse to snog a smoker either, its awful.
Just imagine if the government succeeded and the country gave up smoking, we would be fucked cause of the lost tax.
So keep smoking and paying the tax!

If they can't get you with one tax they'll get you with another.

Lol @ Jon ;D
I smoke. I gave up for a year but started again (stupidly). It was like having an old friend give me a hug in a tough time I was having. A bit of a deadly hug really.
I am enjoying smoking at the moment because I haven't got to the extreme I was at where I was smoking forty a day and finding it hard to sleep because of all the tar shifting when I laid down.
I know the damage it does but it does surprise me when you get people who claim that they are fine and that their lungs are as healthy as ever after twenty years of smoking (spoken by a sceptic in this forum, lol), because it's not just the lungs, it's every bloody part of you. My Mum gave up smoking in time to stop her little toes from going completely black and very possibly needing to get chopped off before they went gangrenous. I wish I'd never started because of the wrinkles it gives you - cats bum mouth!! Aaarghh!! Smokings crap... when I've finished the 10 packets in my cupboard I'll have a go at giving up again, lol
I didn't realise before when I smoked that smokers smell so bad! Presents the other Christmas that had been in a smokers home reeked of it.
But I agree it is personal choice, I smoke but definitely not proud of it.

It is personal choice, but when I see the smokers at work in their outside bus shelter thing, I see a group of people that looks more miserable and unhealthy, in fact far more miserable and unhealthy than everyone else.
And don't mention the smell when you are in a meeting with someone who has just had a fag. I don't think smokers appreciate how bad they smell, especially these days with no indoor smoking to stink out places.
Smoking is the ultimate example of cognitive dissonance I think. Everyone knows it is killing them but still does it.

I smoke yet Icant stand the smell of smoke, especially stale smoke.
It is one of the most addictive drugs you can get and it's LEGAL, but jon is right if everyone stopped smoking the government would be skint and the NHS would lose a fortune.
It is a filthy habbit and a one I wish I had never started, but it does get to me the way we smokers are treat by some, drink drivers are far worse than smokers if you ask me and Ive never had a "fight" because Ive had one too many fags either.
But you know what realy gets my back up at the moment, the bloody adverts against smoking, where they show children imitating what their parents do, by pretending to smoke a crayon, it may well be shown after the watershed, but kids do get to see these adverts, and kids DO do what they see on tv.
Get the messege across but keep children out of it !!!

When i was younger i used to smoke alot but now i only smoke during the weekends as i don't want to smoke at work and i find the UK cigarettes soooo expensive. But its during the weekends when i have a drink or around people that smoke that i smoke alot. I just need to get out of the 'social smoking' thing. It is crazy though how i can go a whole week without one and as soon as the weekend comes i crave!

i do think that banning of smoking in pubs has been great. Only problem now is that when its hot i go out side for my pint and it stinks as all the smokers are there

well unfortunatley jon, that is something you will just have to put up with. I think the majority of smokers including my self have been pretty cool about the ban and most of us are either quite happy to go most of the nght whilst out, with out a ciggy or die of hypothermia out side in all weathers just to get our fix what does annoy me tho is, some pubs have provided smoking areas and the non smokers will join their smoking buddies in these areas, then moan about the smell...well if you dont smoke and dont like it, dont go in these areas, let your mate have their ciggy and wait for them to come back and join you.

A few years ago they also made the ban on smoking in public places in South Africa, thing is people still smoke in the pubs and clubs and the police don't do anything about it so its as if its not even law anymore.
Oh and i keep wanting to squash Jon's avatar!
