I completely agree gizzy1. My husband is a driving instructor and has had pupils who've been banned and had to take a re-test. In the Uk they have to have an extended test (one hour). Our youngest son has to travel to school via taxi everyday, we have two brothers who drive him to school alternatively. A few months ago one of them was hit by a drink driver. Thankfully he wasn't killed but was hospitalized due to his injuries. When I discovered what the real cause of the accident was I blew! It turned out to be a man in his sixties, in a car worth approx £85,000 that had been banned 3 times for the same offence. Apparently, though the poor thing (thing is appropriate for this kind of human being) had not been sent to prison for his previous offences because he had his own business and it would've suffered. But it was ok for him to get back into his plush car and drive around endangering everyone else on the road. The taxi driver who was injured has a friend who's a policeman and he explained that where the taxi was hit helped to save his life because a second or more later and the scenario could have been fatally different. It's the same with mobile phone users, joy riders, anyone that doesn't respect the roads. That split second of broken concentration leads to disastrous results. I know my husband has had quite a few of these menaces retaking tests and not giving a damn. Unfortunately though instructors and examiners have to abide by the laws, if they didn't the roads would be about half as full. A car is a dangerous weapon but some peoples attitudes are even worse.
