Listening to some 80's music today brought back some memories. The disco I used to attend was packed (sadly the club's no longer there). I never had a hair out of place, mascara giving me spider legs eyelashes. People who ignored me at school suddenly admired me (sorry it's an ego thing )
Parents weren't scared of their kids.
Manners were pretty much commonplace.
Madonna's raunchiness was fairly unique.
Hoodies, Chavs, Moshers and Bagheads were a rare commodity. (Educational update on names from our 17 year old).
The Exorcist stopped people sleeping (well me at least)
Sky satellite was free but not many had it.
The police had power.
No council tax.
Designer labels only applied to the elite (economical on the purse strings)
Good old Maggie Thatcher and Arthur Scargill. (Boy what a saga!)
No political correctness, yippee!
Most bands played their own instruments.
Only a few endless remakes of hit singles.
Houses weren't squeezed into every llittle gap.
Commodore 64 personal computer, imagine that coping with todays society.
Stylophones and space invaders.
No Most Haunted and the rest.
The list is endless. This was just a few of my own personal memories. Coming from a small town who's been known for green wellies and lots of sheep tends to limit your knowledge of the outside world.
I met my husband in this era too. He believes he's paid the price ever since. Ah well!
