MH is a TV show so it needs things to happen during every episode to justify its continued life on the digital airwaves. How many episodes has anyone seen where bugger all happens? I've worked in the media and have experience of writing, directing and producing programmes for independent channels such as Living TV . MH is a product like Cornflakes, if the packaging can't deliver or live upto the content then it's a brand with a very short shelf life.

I do get a little frustrated that the optical natural phenomena that occur, are not mentioned or discussed on television for the public when covering such subjects.
Dark delay and such as light beam reflection & blocking etc. Combined with temp, and other variables.
It gives an impression of any optical thing seen being a ghosty etc.

Right now Most Haunted is rubbish. But it has been very good and that was down to dodgy Derek's showmanship. When he left David Wells did a great job but right now it is appauling.
Of course it is fake.

Having just returned from Hauntings - The Science of Ghosts at the Edinburgh Science Festival and heard what Ciaran O'Keefe had to say about Most Haunted I'd say the overall consensus on BP is correct.

Well, obviously Ciaran has to be careful in his choice of words when commenting on MH. However he did say that the type of footwear worn by certain members of the crew would be a pretty good indicator of whether a 'show' would feature rappings and knocks. He IMO seemed to strongly suggest that due to the very nature of the medium (the shows format not the resident Medium) that 'happenings' are not always supernatural in nature and that certain crew members affection for getting on the public side of a camera lens can lead them to deliberately creating phenomena. No great surprise there then. Basically Ciaran was saying that two people sat in a room on a bed twiddling their thumbs did not make for the type of content MH was looking to make the final cut. You can read from that what you will but having listened to the man speak for 50 mins you can guess what he was trying to infer - but I could be wrong.

Sounds about right to me. Unusual phenomena does not happen on cue, and yet amazingly, it happens on every episode of MH. Funny that isnt it? Im afraid I could not keep quiet about it for money either. I know dignity doesn't pay bills, but there has to be a limit, right?

Quite right Badmin, but I must admit having Ciaran give his 'side of the story' so to speak, I've become less critical of his motives. I think he's a sceptic and certainly very sceptical of the methods and validity of the techniques and data used and recorded by MH. Remember that he did his PHD under Professor Richard Wiseman who is not known for his gullibility when it comes to the woo. Sure, dignity doesn't put food on the table or pay the mortgage but working on MH (from what he said) does have benefits other than the purely financial one. For example it gives access to sites that a lone academic would not normally be able to access without the weight of an infamous TV programmes influence and money. It also allows him to study a group dynamic in an allegedly haunted location. Even though that group is working to a fairly strict filming schedule where happenings are most likely in the running order of the show. It also allows him access to the full unedited footage where things can be more carefully scrutinsed in order to determine if anything genuine did happen. Ciaran did go into detail regarding one incident during a MH live where Yvette heard a 'ghoulish laugh' right over her shoulder - and obviously hammed it up. On carefull analysis of the unbroadcast footage it turns out it was the Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills laughing in Yvettes ear before quickly moving away. TBH if I was getting that paycheck I'd probably take the same approach and maintain the balance between fulfilling my contractual obligations to Antix/Living Tv whilst not compromising my academic credibility with my peers.

MH isn't the same show it purported to be, when it first aired. Whether it is due to pressure on Antix trying to keep their viewing figures, or whether certain people got fed up with nothing happening, week after week, I don't know, but it is now so laughably boring that I no longer watch it. Yvette has been caught out too many times on video (see YouTube), and there are too many question marks over Carl and Stuart to ignore. I cannot believe that even Antix think that MH is a serious paranormal investigation!

I wouldn't disagree with that. He took the paycheck and towed the line. I'd have probably have done the same to be honest and off set the fact that I was working with people who deliberately engineered 'happenings' with the fact that I had access to places I wouldn't normally get access to amongst ther things. morganp

I don't know if Ciaran 'went along' with the fakery or not. If he did, then as you say, he is as bad as Yvette and Karl. It could also be that he was contracted to the show and couldn't leave or speak out until his contract had ended.

It could also be that he was contracted to the show and couldn't leave or speak out until his contract had ended. I wouldn't go so far as to say he was as bad as Yvette n Karl but you're probably right in terms of his contractual obligations. I've talked with the bloke and heard him speak at length about MH and I'd say he went along with the alleged fakery but balanced it with more laudible intentions in terms of investigating the group dynamics of hauntings in historic locations etc. There is obviously far more vindication for Ciarans compliance but I'm not the person to state his case for him. I'm just saying that from my perspective as a sceptic I think he approaches the subject (despite MH's stance) with a questioning, scientific mind, having studied under Prof Richard Wiseman and still being very much involved with Wisemans approach and methodology relating to his continuing the study of the subject. morganp

I believe in hauntings and have experienced the paranormal, but you don't get that much activitity all the time as you do on MH. Derek Acorah should have been exposed much earlier if he was a fake. I think that most annoying thing for me though is the hysteria and the lack of professionalism. They entreat spirits to communicate, then if something happens everyone flips out and that's usually the end of it.

The something happening is usually one of two things.
1. A member (or members) of the crew deliberately faking 'happenings'. 2. A noise or natural phenomenon misinterpreted as being of supernatural origin due to the fact that they're under pressure to find something and they're already primed to expect something to happen because the location is 'haunted'.
And....the fact that Karl and Yvette will be angry if everyone does not join in the spirit of the show - after all it is showbusiness.

I think the fact Mr O Keef has co-written a couple of books with Yvette Fielding just proves he has jumped ship and is more interested in making a living then holding to what he should do i.e. Exposing the show for the fakery it is. He has no respect in my eyes after exposing Derek Acorah but failing to expose the rest of the fakers who he knows damn well are doing exactly the same as Derek did.

I think contractual obligations exclude him from going 'public' on MH's fakery Antmania. TV is a complex pool to be swimming in in you're on the other side of the camera to the screen you see in your front room.
