Hi Jennybee ,
First off sorry to hear your mums been unwell and im glad she's had a better spell recently .
Absent healing i feel personally can largely be put down to the placebo effect .
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaceboIn short the power of suggestion can create a theraputic effect even though the therapy itself is ineffective due to the person expecting a change in their symptoms .
Its nice to think of people sending you healing energy and wishing you well just as its horrible to think there are people who are against you or wishing you ill .
The same sort of idea is involved when you think about the ole gypsy trick of saying if you dont buy this trinket i will put a curse on you .
If you believe they can actually create bad luck and karma for you then your mind is telling you that this will infact happen and you start to believe it and pick up on every bad thing that happens to you after placing more importance on those instances of bad luck ignoring any good things that may also have happened since .
Its kind of the same in reverse with absent healing , you are told people will send you healing , you want to believe that of course (who wouldnt if they were ill and suffering ) , the idea of this wave of good thoughts and luck sends prompts that will lift your mood and feelings and you may pick up on improvements that you feel are a result of this rather than just chance or unrelated improvements .
I have to say if in this case the absent healing is free and there is no demand for money then as long as your mother does not rely on it as her sole resource for getting better or becomes reliant on the need for further exploration down the alternative route and continues to seek proper medical help and advice then i cant see how it could be too determental in that she isnt being fleeced or brainwashed into dropping proper professional medical treatment .
However i would say make it clear to her that taking it further or seeking alternative therapies of other kinds is not advisable , often this offer of free healing is nothing more than a fishing line to get people into the fold and to use the other services (usually for a substantial price ) that some of these sites offer .
I was as a very young child quite badly burnt down the side of my face and was hospitalised for over a month , it was thought initially that there would be considerable scarring and the docs thought a skin graft may be necessary .
Although at the time i was unaware ( i was five ) my father asked for absent healing .
Something i wasnt aware of until many many years later .
I made quite a remarkable recovery without needing the grafts according to what my parents tell me and i do remember having endless streams of young docs and nurses brought in by the consultant to see me as he apparently couldnt quite believe how well my skin had healed .
The thing that interests me most is if i was unaware of the absent healing , and was pretty miserable understandibly for the duration of my stay there the placebo effect would not have been applicable to me .
However inhindsight after discussing it as an adult with my parents and an ex-boyfriends father who was a consultant in a hospital the fact i was in one of the best burns units in the country , the treatment they gave me was most probably at the time a new approach , and the fact that i was so young and my skin was more able to heal quicker all made for a seemingly miraculous recovery and scar free future .
Either way im grateful for any kind thoughts or support that were sent my way whether they helped or not physically they certainly may have given some support to my poor parents who were out of their minds with worry .
