Luke Perry doesn't believe in psychics, but that isn't stopping him from playing one on "Leverage." Perry guest stars as Dalton Rand, a fake TV psychic who takes advantage of vulnerable people, in "The Future Job" airing at 9 p.m. Wednesday on TNT. "He's a charlatan," Perry told me during a phone conversation. "He absolutely figures out a way to tell people what it is that they want to hear and they cough it up for him big time." "Never leave money on the table," Dalton tells his assistant as they plot to convince a victim to sell her house so she can pay to stay in touch with her dead husband. Dalton catches the attention of Nathan Ford (Timothy Hutton) and his Leverage team, who decide to bring the faker down by having Tara (Jeri Ryan) go undercover as a "real" psychic. Perry was impressed with the way the "Leverage" writers took a fresh, new approach to an oft-done story about fake psychics. He also liked playing the baddie, but he still isn't buying into the power of TV pyshics like John Edwards. "No. But I know a lot of people do. More power to them," he said, "but less money." Perry does believe in some things, though, like The Billy Goat's cheeseburgers, "Deadliest Catch" and his buddy, Michael Cudlitz. So, he plays the exact same character as Simon Baker (Simon Baker) in The Mentalist?
