I do like the double bullet catch and arguably it is one of the best of all time. HOWEVER I kinda think I figured out how they do it now, so thats taken the edge off it for me.
My favourite is still the Paul Daniels vanishing camera, mainly cause despite my suspicions on how it is done, I still love the trick.
And the Pendragons metamorphosis is so slick its amazing, we all know how they do it, but it is still incredible

The bit I dont like is when the vanish happens, a bird flies across the screen. This is a trick used in many horror films, to mask an edit before someones head gets chopped off. I have to agree. It makes the whole illusion suspect. I also think the people present although real people and not actors, the reactions we see from them are not from the trick we see on screen. I know many people have been disappointed when they have seen him live.

Glad too see Paul Daniels name up there three times, also Tommy Cooper, if only the once. For sheer family entertainment Mr Cooper could not be beaten. His tricks were always meant to go wrong the first time to the delight of children and quite a few adults. When he eventually got it right, what joy. ;D

Paul Daniels for me is one of the greatest of all time, he did live magic shows every Saturday evening for years and years!! Different tricks every show I agree, he is one of the best. The amount of material he got through was incredible, especially when you think most working Pro's use the same 5-6 tricks all the time.

He also introduced some great new magicians, Lance Burton is just one who owes his big break to Paul Daniels

He also introduced some great new magicians, Lance Burton is just one who owes his big break to Paul Daniels I'm pretty sure you're mistaken, Jon. From what I've read about Lance Burton, Paul Daniels doesn't feature in the story at all. He's not mentioned on Lance's website which you'd expect if Daniels had given him his big break. Well the story goes as I heard it, Lance was working in a strip club doing his dove act, and someone saw him and told Paul to book him. And Paul put him on his show.
They talked about it one of those recent Top 50 magic trick shows.

I can't find any reference to this story. Lance Burton did appear on the Paul Daniels Show in 1985.
In 1981 he appeared on The Tonight Show. Host Johnny Carson watched him in rehearsal, and allowed him to do an unprecedented 12-minute routine. This one appearance put Lance Burton permanently into the pages of magic history.

Talking of Paul Daniels I recently bought a DVD off of him. It arrived today and he very kindly included a couple of signed postcards-

Maybe what was said on that show that I saw, was a bit of an exageration then! They made it sound like Paul Daniels was the first to showcase Burton

Another fine example of how easily it is to fool people. Perhaps this should be in the spirits section.

Over the weekend I was at The Session Magic Convention in Cheltenham. For those of you who may never of heard of a magic convention, The Session is a gathering of approximately 150 of the finest magicians from around the world who all have one thing in common - they are all magic mad. During the weekend they attend lectures, shows, share secrets and generally have a good time. Attending this years Session was 'Penn & Teller - Fool Us' winner John Archer (see video earlier in this thread). His main lecture was about performing comedy in magic, however, he also explained the working of the trick he used to fool P&T. Having listened to the explanation I can see how he was able to fool them. The whole routine guides you in a certain direction away from the actual method. Unfortunately, I can't really say much more than that without giving it away and since it's not mine to reveal I'll leave it there. The trick is now available to buy - www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/great-magic-for-big-crowds/blank-night/

Sounds like a great evening! It was actually a great weekend. This years presenters read like a who's who of magic. The majority of them are household names in the world of magic but are hardly known to the public as they rarely appear on the TV. The likes of Dynamo (who was a paying guest like me) really don't compare to these guys. This years performers and speakers - www.sessionconvention.com/speakers-performers/
