In the late 20th Century, the northern hemisphere experienced its most widespread warmth for 1,200 years, according to the journal Science. The findings support evidence pointing to unprecedented recent warming of the climate linked to greenhouse emissions. Read More

Hmmm it hasn't been very warm where I am Quite bloody cold actually, but definitely a lack of rain.....but don't these things happen in cycles anyway? On ITV they're doing a "Global Warming" ongoing item, and the reporter was in Chad in Africa reporting on their major river which is a source of life for the inhabitants. But during the report which stated it was drying up, he said " which hasn't been seen since ****" whatever the date was he said. But if it's happened in the past and recovered, why is it down to global warming this time??

Lets ban all the planes, Yes its typical of any government who obviously have far too much to hide and need to give us something to worry about whilst they are busy "hiding their tracks".

They want us to use public transport and leave our cars at home yet it's often cheeper to take the car and pay parking fee's than use the bus...well here were I live it is..

The point with global warming is that its happening much faster than any changes in the past from ice ages to green-house worlds and vice-versa, and so the flora and fauna cannot adapt because evolution works very slowly, so we are initiating a mass extinction. Humans are f**ked. The planet will recover (once we're gone.)

So why did I freeze my spuds off this morning waiting to go to work? Eh? Answer that Michael Fish! When people talk about an increase in temperature you have to understand that they are talking about for the whole of the planet, as in an an average. So they are talking temperatures from numerous sites all over the globe, generating an average, which can be compared year to year. So while one place may have a decrease, compared to all the other places in the world dealing with increases...it averages out higher. So when people use coolness in one place as an argument against global warming, it is from a lack of understanding how the numbers are calculated.

Hi, I'm new to this site (although Jon and I may be having words on another forum, lol) but this is a subject I know a wee bit about. I won't go into detail (unless you ask), but basically you have to understand that we are making huge changes to this planet that nature has never had to deal with before. And we aren't just messing it up for us. The earth may recover when we're gone, but we'll have taken a large chunk of the earth's other life forms with us. And we have to understand that whilst we may not be affected so much in urban, western society, other areas of the world are seeing huge differences in their local environment which is affecting their food supply, economic stability, social & family welfare, etc. Mind you, I agree with the whole public transport/expense thing. But then again, I've never been great friends with any government.

Are we?
Rubbish, our effect on this planet is neglegable
One Volcano erupting pumps more carbon and sulphur into the atmosphere than a 100 years of industry.
In fact at any time a supervolcano could errupt and pump so much crap into the atmosphere that the planet would die anyway.
This whole idea that we are importantenough to effect a whole planet is pure scaremongering from governments wishing to control us.
Did you know that a single tablespoon of oil on a mechanics garage floor evapourating causes more damage to the environment than a Porsche 911 driving to Edinborough and back to London.
We are NOT killing this planet, as the planet could kill us all in a second.

I am inclined to agree with you there Jon, even if I have been called a "Tree Hugging Loony" on the old BP site. (Not by Jon of course). Round here the Council in cahoots with the government are going to be piloting a scheme where you get charged by the mile depending on what roads you use. This is going to result in poorer drivers being priced off the road to make way for those greedy, overpaid execs in their big jags and 4 x 4. They will get to work on time but they might find no one working for them. It will affect everything this. Rural routes will become used far more and transport companies will have to charge more for transporting goods around to various outlets, thus the extra expense being passed on to the consumer. Pricing people off the road is not the answer. The school run causes most of the traffic because its funny during school holidays I can get to work 10 minutes quicker than I do during term time. Get kids in schools within their neighbourhoods and easy walking distance; that might go some way to easing things I do think its a control thing very much so and this government is becoming more like a dictatorship as the months tick by.

I don't disagree that governments have been doing their fair share of scare mongering, but on the other hand, they've been ignoring the obvious for years because it suited their needs.
And Jon, although we may or may not be insignificant in the overall story of the universe, do you honestly think we can do whatever we like to this planet without consequence? As I stated in my earlier post, the earth may well survive, but we will have well and truly screwed up our cultural evolution, maybe even our entire species, along with several others along the way. Btw, do you always come across as being so angry?

100 years ago they thought that the world would end in a 100 years time from all the methane coming off the horse s*it left in the roads by horse drawn carts.
Yes i am always angry, lol
The point is we could all live perfect lives, and an asteroid could wipe us out, or a volcano could erupt and screw up the eco system.
People need to stop worrying about things, and just enjoy their lives.
They thought we would run out of landfill sites by 1980 yet here we are 26 years later, and no problems.
Even reclycling is bulls*it. Its a lie that recycling is of any use.
The ONLY thing which is worse recycling is tin cans, which is why they will pay you for them.
Paper and so on is all b***cks, its run by big business.
