Penn Jillette: Camera Tricks Are Not Magic
When Penn watches televised magic, he has "a very real sense" that he's watching different takes stuck together.

He has used camera tricks on his tv shows, but they usually show how after And that's the difference. Criss Angel, David Blaine, etc have shows that are almost entirely camera tricks, stooges, etc. I've always said, 'if you can't do it live don't do it at all'.

The reason I don't do children's shows By the way, if you ever get the chance to David Williamson go and see him. He's one of the funniest magicians I've ever seen.

20 years after ruining/improving Dave Williamson's magic career, Murray returns to The 2011 International Magic convention in London to try again.

You gotta laugh how footage from 20 years ago is better than the footage now

The problem is that the footage from 20 years ago was filmed in a studio using broadcast quality TV cameras. The more recent clip was filmed at a magic convention by someone, possibly sat in the audience, using a hand held camera. The quality was never going to be the same.

Cards in motion Over 1000 still pictures shot on a Canon 60D made into a two and a half minute short movie. If I could do real magic with cards, it would look something like this...

What do you think of the Paul Zenon thing thats going on at the moment? With claims someone stole his trick, and is going on Britains Got Talent etc.

Not something I'm aware of, have you got a link?
Accusations of theft among the magic community aren't uncommon. Most of these come from misunderstandings between magicians. Magician (A) invents a trick, Magician (B) invents a similar trick unaware of Magician (A) creation. When Magician (A) finds out he accuses (B) of theft and chaos ensues.
The fact is there are only about 7 tricks in total and the rest is presentation so repetition is inevitable at some point. Proving that one magician stole anothers trick is often impossible unless it's blatantly obvious (see the Piff the Magic Dragon theft case from last year as an example).
